"I am really in a Fantasy world!"
I was standing in a vast plain land with various crops stretched out as far as the eye could see, with the sun in the middle of the sky. It was truly a beautiful sight. Some distance behind me was a huge forest in which trees grew bigger the deeper it went. From the looks of things, it seems I reincarnated near a farming village next to a forest. A pretty good place to start I must say.
"I should go to the village and see what kind of people live there. Will I be able to talk to them?"
The first step after getting isekaied is to check whether you have an auto-translate feature. Communication is very important since learning a language will be difficult at this age. Not long after I started walking, I arrived at what seemed to be the entrance to the village. There was a single guard standing at the entrance. Other than a normal sword, he was just wearing some leather gloves and boots. I was about to go and talk to him but he approached me first.
"Hey you there. Who might you be? I have never seen you in the village before, are you an adventurer?"
Good! It seems like I can understand him very well.
"My name is Ray. I just woke up nearby the forest. Other than my name, I don't remember anything else from before waking up."
The best strategy right now would be to pretend to have memory loss. If all goes to plan, I should get a place to stay and maybe some other benefits.
"Ray you say. My name is Willham. Do you happen to possess some kind of Identification on you?"
"I didn't have any possessions on me when I woke up."
"I am sorry son but I can't just let a total stranger inside the village like this. You will need to come with me to confirm you are not a threat."
"I don't have any other option, do I?"
And with that the guard took me to a small hut near the entrance. The hut looked like a guard post. There was a man inside lazing on the chair there who also looked like a guard.
"Hey Chas, go to the village and call the Priest, we have a kid who claims to have memory loss."
"A kid. What's a kid doing out here in the middle of nowhere?"
"How should I know that? Just go and quickly call the Priest. I will keep a watch on him for the time being."
"Ok ok! Relax dad."
The guy named Chas though seemed lazy, after getting the order quickly left for the village. I was told to sit in a chair while Willham sat in front of me keeping a strict watch on me.
"Umm mister. What place is this anyway?"
"This is Rillton, a farming village on the outskirts of the Vandelhiem Kingdom."
While waiting for the Priest to arrive, I got some basic information from Willham about the general layout of this world. He was kind enough to draw a rough map and tell me the names of all the major kingdoms.
Please Look at the this image for world map: https://ibb.co/JcG6ZcC
As you can see, we are on the very edge of the map in the Beast kingdom. This entire continent is the territory of Vandelhiem Kingdom, also known as Beast Kingdom. While most of the populace is made up of demi-human species, there also some humans mixed in as well. The Elves are a very proud race and rarely leave their kingdom which is built around the World Tree. The Rigeth Kingdom (Demon Kingdom) is where the evil races (Goblins, Orcs, Vampires, etc.) are said to come from. The Southwestern continent is dominated by Humans with the exception of the Republic of Semaru. The Republic is in location that makes it the biggest trading hub in the entire world, so all kinds of races from different continents can be seen there.
Just as Willham explained the general layout of the world geography, Chas came with the Priest.
"Hey dad, I brought the village Priest."
"Willham, I have heard some of it from Chas, is this the boy you want me to check?"
"Yes, Village Priest"
The priest was a short man who looked to be in his mid-50's, and wore a black robe over white garments. After discussing with Willham for a while, he came to me and spoke in a gentle voice.
"I heard that your name is Ray, and that you suffer from memory loss. I am the Village Priest, and I will be checking whether you have truly lost your memory or whether you are here to harm us."
"But how are you going to check that?"
Wait, he can check if I lost my memories or not? Holy sh*t I was just making up a story, I can't let them find out that I am from another world. My identity is supposed to be a secret.
"Using a certain skill, I can tell whether you have a pure soul or a tainted one. Your soul's color will tell me if you have committed any crimes, and if you are lying or not. Now tell me, who are you and why are you here?"
The Priest quickly chanted something and his palm started glowing. He then told me to answer his question.
"My name is Ray. I recently woke up near the forest with no memories from before waking up. I encountered Mr. Willham while looking around for someone to seek help." I answered the Priest while trying to look calm. Though I had never committed any crime, I didn't know if my lie will get caught or not.
"By the Gods Grace, I have determined that you are not lying, and have indeed lost your memories. We apologies for doubting you."
"Don't worry about it. Anyone would be cautious near a stranger"
"Willham, Chas, I have determined that he is no threat. Since he has lost his memories, I will take him with me to the Village Church. Getting him settled for the time being. I will talk to the village chief later regarding his situation."
"Me and Chas will get back to our posts then."
Willham and Chas got back to work, and I followed the Priest to the village. I am so glad my lie didn't get caught. The Priest said that he can tell if I was lying or not, did Mr. Devil save me? Now that I think about it, I haven't heard from him since I reincarnated. Is he sleeping? Of well whatever. On our way to the church, I got a lot of gazes from little children who were playing and women who were gossiping while doing their chores. Most of the people I saw on the way were demi-humans with not many humans. There were people with cat-kins, dog-kins, rabbit-kins and some other species. Arriving at the church, I saw that it was not that big, and on going inside, I saw that there was no statue or painting of any God.
"Hey mister Priest, isn't this a church, why is there no painting of any god or something like that?"
"This not a church of any particular religion. Every village or city has at least one church where people can worship their Gods. A countryside village like this one cannot afford a church for every religion, so there is this small one for all religions. I am the Priest who is tasked with maintaining this church. Did you remember anything about yourself from entering the church?"
"It's not like that. I just got curious."
The Priest led me to a room in the living quarters of the church and told me to rest for a while. He said we will go see the village chief in a little while. He gave me some clothes to change into. Going around the village in a tracksuit seemed to attract to much attention. The clothes he gave me were pretty comfortable. After laying in the bed for some time, the Priest cam to call me to a meeting room, and on entering I could see the village chief. He was rather chubby, and looked like dog-kin.
"Greetings. You must be Ray. I am Ronald, the Village Chief. I heard about your situation from the Priest. You are free to stay here for as long as you want. I will inform the other villagers about your situation, so you don't need to worry about anything."
"Thank you so much Chief. I really appreciate all the help that everyone is providing me with. I don't know how I will be able to repay you."
"You don't need to worry about that. If you need something, feel free to ask. Since the sun is still up, why don't you go and tour the village? I have somethings to talk to with the Priest, so I will stay here for a while. Don't get lost and come back before sunset."
"I will be careful. Thank you once again for all the help."
And with that I left the church to tour the village. The village chief seemed like a very good person. The other villagers must love him. Now, since I have gotten myself a place to stay and some general information, I should check out what special powers I have. I remember the Priest using some sort of magic before. Maybe I should try using magic first.
And with that, I left to find an open ground to test my magic skills.
