Blake's harsh voice was dripping with accusation as he had long forgotten that I was in pain too.
A humourless snicker left my lips and I straightened my back. "Don't you dare put this on me, Blake Carson," I warned. "I did nothing but be a good wife to you and this is how you repay me?!" I questioned with a raised voice and a wave of impulse washed over me in an instant as I reached out to push all the plates and bowls of food off the table.
Blake pulled Stella back as everything fell to the ground, shattering on impact and the food spilled all over the ground. "You crazy bitch!" I heard my husband yell at me, contempt filled his voice. "What the hell is wrong with you?"
"I don't want to ever see you again. I want a divorce," I said resolutely, my voice unwavering as I stood before him with my fists clenched tightly beside me, unaware that blood was dripping down my palm.
He laughed. "Fine, go ahead, I dare you! You can't live without me anyway, soon, you will come running back to me," he taunted.
"Trust me, I won't."
It was pouring heavily outside but I didn't care. I spun around and left without turning back once. As I was walking away, Blake hesitated to follow after me and soon after I heard Stella wince in pain behind me. From the corner of my eye, I saw her once again collapse into his arms to get his attention.
"Go after her, I am okay," I could hear Stella urge in her weak voice. "Ahh," she exclaimed again, and I was almost a 100% certain that she was simply pretending to be in pain to take his attention off of me.
"No… no…" he mumbled, shaking his head lightly just as I had expected. "I'm staying here with you, you need some rest."
Outside in the pouring rain, I have been walking for a couple of minutes by now. I couldn't tell if the beads of water droplets rolling down my face were the rain pouring down from the sky mercilessly or my tears. It was probably a mixture of both to be honest. Suddenly, I felt my vision blurred and my head got dizzy.
Then, everything went dark and I collapsed onto the gravel path by the street. The next thing I knew, my eyes fluttered open and I found myself lying on the bed in the hospital.
I blinked my eyes in an attempt to adjust my vision. From the corner of my eye, I noticed a figure sitting on the chair next to me, startling me a little as I turned to meet his gaze, his dark eyes boring right into mine.
I watched as he leaned forward to examine my features with an emotionless look on his face.
"We finally meet again."
The air between us crackled with unspoken tension and the atmosphere felt heavier than usual.
I found myself inching back further into the bed to move away from him and maintain a distance between us. My brows were furrowed together as I stared at him with unfamiliarity swimming in my eyes. My eyes darted around anxiously, trailing from his jet black hair to his dark brown eyes and to his sharp jaw.
I felt a weird tingling sensation run down my spine in an instant as his eyes held mine captive.
"Who… are you?" I asked in a soft voice, stuttering slightly as the words left my mouth. "Why are you here?" I questioned, hurling another question right at the stranger.
I saw the way the man's face fell within a split second as his features hardened. A deep chuckle emerged from his lips as he leaned back into the seat.
"Who am I?" He repeated bitterly as the memories from before flooded his mind and emotions ran wild in his eyes. "It's been 3 years. You left me alone years ago and vanished into thin air without a single warning!" He yelled right into my face as he grabbed onto my shoulders tightly, shaking my petite frame vigorously.
A yelp left my lips as confusion and shock was written all over my face while I stared at the man before me with wide eyes. "What the hell are you talking about?!" My voice boomed loudly in the ward, and my eyes never once left his face. "I don't know you!" I exclaimed, my voice was laced with certainty as my gaze swept over his sharp features once again with zero recognition.
An exasperated sigh emerged from his parted lips as he finally released his tight grip on my shoulders. I was quite sure it was red from how hard he was grabbing onto me just mere seconds ago.
At this moment, the door swung open and a nurse walked into the ward. The both of us immediately whipped their heads around and our eyes fell on the nurse. There was an uncomfortable look etched onto the nurse's face for a split second, I was sure she could sense the tension lingering in the air.
She walked towards me, stopping by the edge of the bed. I watched as the corners of her lips curled upwards into a small smile and she broke the silence that settled between us with the news.
"Mrs Carson, I have some news for you," the nurse began and I found myself leaning forward ever so slightly as curiosity burned inside of me.
What could it be? Am I diagnosed with cancer? Do I have to undergo surgery?
"I'm not sure if you are aware of this but… you are pregnant."
Pregnant? Shit.
Thank you for reading and have a great day everyone!
Love,
