Even before humanity had gained the ability to fly, they held a fascination for the stars, during the early days of human civilization, man mapped stars representing their Myths and their beliefs, it was only after the discovery of flight during the early days of the 20th Century did Space Travel become a possibility.
After the Second World War, aviation developed faster than any other field with planes going from Rotary Blades to Jet Engines within years which led to the beginning of the First Space Race Between the then Superpowers, the United States of America and the United Soviet Socialist Republics race culminating in Man putting their feet on the moon within just 20 or so years but, with the fall of the USSR at the end of the century, the space race slowed down to a crawl with no country willing to put much effort into space exploration anymore as it lost its lustre.
Mankind only started looking to the stars again after the Miracle of the Century, the completion of the First Cold Fusion Reactor nicknamed "Prakash" in 2069 at Indian Gandhinagar leading to a new era of technology which led to the start of the Space Age with countries rushing to colonise other planets with their newfound vigour for all of its riches, this, in turn, led to massive turmoil on earth with many countries failing to keep pace and collapsing due to economic pressure from overreaching their assets, creating a new world order with Earth being divided among five major powers.
After the creation of the UNSF Unity Space Station, Earth's political situation stabilised due to the United Nations finally adapting itself to the New Era and an overarching colonial authority was created to prevent conflict among nations in planets with multinational establishments as well as to ensure equality of independent planets with their native counterparts, although well intended the colonial authority had very little actual power over major powers if they ever decide to hold any planet by force or political pressure.
Humanity continued its journey through the stars ever expanding resulting in the creation of the Alcubierre drive by two renowned scientists from America in the late 2090s which allowed humans to travel between star systems within hours instead of years by contracting space in front of it and expanding space behind it, hastening the expansion ever further with most nations colonising nearly 30 planets and some even over 50, this proliferation of colonies, in turn, led to the creation of fringe systems which revolted against their earth counterparts and attained independence due to their relative distance and lack of importance to Earth.
With the need for more and more exotic materials for the construction of their warships mining colonies became commonplace, one such colony was the newly found outer ring world of Prospecta, an American helium-3 mining planet founded in the late 2120's resembling an ice desert with little human habitation.
