Ch 9

After an unknown amount of time, Dan finally woke up from his slumber right where he fell unconscious.

And just as he wakes up, the system screen appears in front of his face with a message from someone named Operator.

"What the hell?" Dan muttered after reading this frustrating message while slowly rubbing his forehead.

[Daniel Specter, I am your System Operator]

[I know you have a lot of questions you want to ask, but don't worry, they are not that relevant... to me]

[And if you are wondering why I contacted you if I am not planning to answer any of your questions?]

[... I can't answer that]

[But, I would like to congrats you on completing your tutorial phase without dying despite not having a starter pack, which was not that difficult, but still, lots of people failed in it.]

[I don't know why, but they still fail for silly reasons. So, that is why I was pleased with your success.]

'I have an operator assigned to me, and it is a very common thing,' Dan thought with a complex expression on his face.

[I wish I could give you a reward for it, but that would be against our rules, just like interfering with you after the tutorial. Therefore, you just have to settle for some inside information about your system.]

[I can't say much, but just hear my advice and don't gather an official crew before you are at least as strong as an Admiral of Marines.]

[One last thing, you will be transported near the Frauce Kingdom]

Dan was surprised and confused when it says explicitly not to gather a crew early in his journey. This put a damper on his plan to gather a competent crew that would help him on his journey.

But it would be inconsiderate not to carefully consider the operator's advice. After all, he must know something that he doesn't. That's why he insists Dan not gather a crew before he is powerful enough.

'Whatever, I can go solo, for now, but I just need to learn how to navigate, cook, and heal to a respectful level while I train my quirks,' Dan thought while looking at his pitiful navigation, cooking, and medical skills.

[Navigation (Initial): 40%]

[Cooking (Novice): 45%]

[Medical Mastery (Initial): 02%]

Clearly, his navigation skills were not sufficient even in a safe sea like East Blue, much less Grandline, which can be unpredictable and dangerous.

And his cooking skills are somewhat better, with him being a novice in the system ranking. Still, he is capable of preparing eatable food.

His medical skills were virtually non-existent since he had only begun reading basic medical books he bought from the doctor at an affordable price.

And to top it all up, he can't even increase his skill mastery with money as he can with his quirks. As for the reason he was given, it was simple. His system was a quirk system, not a skill system.

So, he has to train all his skills in the old-fashioned way of learning and practicing to advance his skills.

'It will certainly be bothersome to learn all of these without spending months on them, but I can manage it if I get some suitable quirks,' Dan thought as he looked at the spin option in his system, but then shook his head to get rid of those thoughts.

'No, I can't spin right now. First, I have to fix myself up,' Dan thought before he looked at his invisible body, which had two extra arms and a tail.

While sitting on the chair, Dan used his shredding quirk to remove extra arms and sharp teeth quirk.

As for why he was not shredding his tailwhip blade? It has a pretty simple reason. It was his only attacking quirk right now, so destroying it doesn't seem right when he doesn't have any other means of attacking.

[Shredding begins...]

The feeling of having extra arms on his body disappeared before Dan felt his teeth changing and returning to how they were before they changed. Still, the change in his body didn't stop there, as his physical stats were enhanced before the whole process ended.

[Shredding complete]

[+4 Str, + 1 Agi, + 2 Sta, + 2 Vit]

After the shredding process, Dan immediately asked his system the question that was bugging him since he got the invisibility quirk, "System, at what level of mastery will I be able to turn off my invisibility at will?"

He was hoping that he had at least enough money to raise his level of mastery to that level. This was because he really didn't want to lose a handy quirk like invisibility.

[You have to reach beginner-level mastery to control your quirk to that level]

Hearing this, Dan sighed in relief, as reaching beginner-level mastery doesn't sound too difficult.

'I have around 300,000 beri, so it should be doable to raise my mastery to that level,' Dan thought happily before asking the system for the price to raise his invisibility quirk to beginners level.

[The cost to reach the beginner level is 1,090,000 beri]

[Are you sure you want to proceed?]

But as usual, his system responded by pouring cold water on his expectations.

"1 million and ninety thousand just for beginner level. Are you crazy?" Dan shouted with an enraged expression on his face. He couldn't believe the price was so high for beginner-level mastery.

"Show me all the prices for the quirk upgrade."

[

Novice Level: (Cost: 10,000 beri for 10% each)

Beginner Level: (Cost: 1 Million beri for 10% each)

Intermediate Level: (Cost: 10 Million beri for 10% each)

Advanced Level: (Cost: 100 Million beri for 10% each)

Mastered Level: (Cost: 1 Billion beri for 10% each)

Transcended Level: (Cost: ???)

]

Seeing these prices, Dan reforged his idea to become a bounty hunter as it was the only profession that could get him this much cash without any hassle.

He could become a thief that steals from the royal treasuries of kingdoms. It would be a lot easier than bounty hunting. Still, he doesn't want to do it as it could affect the whole kingdom's stability and hurt innocent people.

And most importantly, it would leave a sour taste in his mouth if his actions hurt ordinary people.

.

Dan said after some thought, "the system raises the invisibility quirk mastery to the peak of novice level." He was now hoping to reach the beginner level on his own with some training after the quirk was already at the peak of the previous level.

[It would cost 90,000 beri]

[Would you like to proceed]

'Yes!'

[Processing...]

[... Complete]

[Invisibility (Novice): 04% -> 100%]

"Huh? I didn't feel much difference from before," Dan said while trying to observe what had changed in his quirk. Still, he couldn't find any difference from before after some experiments.

But he did feel like he was standing at a door, and the moment he opened it, his control over his invisibility quirk would reach new heights.

But before he could do anything else, he discovered his ship was quickly sailing toward the island where the Frauce Kingdom was located.

"Oh shit!" Dan muttered before he dashed toward the ship's wheel.
