Ocean eyes: A Nigerian teen romance

I thought everything was over. I thought I would be free from everything. But then...he showed up. Why? Why did it have to be now? "Look at me, Tilda," His soothing voice came. I didn't want to look at him. I knew better than to do so. I felt his hand on my chin and he titled my face in the direction of his. I knew myself very well. I couldn't resist those eyes...those eyes, there was something about them that I couldn't resist. He didn't know, but he was luring me further into a trap that I knew I could never find my way back. Matilda Olusegun is the only child of wealthy parents. However, with the death of her father when she was just seven, and the sudden remarriage of her mother after his death, her life takes a drastic turn. Life in itself, coupled with the emotional struggles she faces at home, plunges her into a world of doubts and uncertainties. A world of "What Ifs?" And "Why's?" Opting for suicide as the only way out of the pit of torment that had subdued her for years, things don't, however, go as she planned instead, she comes to learn of the secrets that lie beneath her actions - It was him. The mysterious boy with blue eyes emerges from both worlds known to her. Who really is he? Read as things go beyond what the eyes can picture and understand, and how Matilda finds happiness once again in the owner of those ocean eyes. _ _ _ This is a Nigerian teen romance story full of drama, twists and turns with a touch of fantasy. Drowned in a sea of confusion

Still in deep thoughts as to what may be happening, the door of my hospital room was aggressively flung open.

Who else could it have been if not for the woman who calls herself my mother?

Dressed in buba and wrapper made from expensive lace material, I could tell she had just returned from a party. Following behind her was the "woman wrapper" Richard.

And believe me, my mother was howling at me for a reason I couldn't quite understand.

"You witch! you curse of a child! you want to kill me abi?" She accompanied her shouts with overexaggerated hand demonstrations.

Her voice had gotten so high that a few doctors and nurses came rushing in.

"Madam, please this is a hospital and there are patients here that demand peace and quiet," One of the doctors who came to stand in front of her pleaded but that woman was not willing to shut up until she had spilled hot tea all over me.

"You want to kill yourself so that everyone will say it is because of me, shey? instead of you to kill yourself, I will do it for you," She continued and marched towards where I laid ready to strangle me to death if not for the intervention of the nurses and doctors.

"Oooo you people should leave me alone. Let me kill this girl, na me bring am come this world na me go still carry am commot!" She struggled with the people who held her back but she turned out to not be strong enough.

I was lost. What did she mean by me wanting to take my own life? That was something I had always wanted to do but Miles never let me instead he...wanted to take my life himself?

At that point, I just wanted to go somewhere far away to clear my head. What in the world was going on?

After some time, the medical personnels were able to calm a crazy Mrs. Olusegun down.

But she left the hospital with a short sentence that carried great meaning behind it - something that only African children could relate to.

"Come and meet me at home."

Soon after, my room was quiet once again with only me in its confines.

What was happening and why were all these strange things taking place?

~ KIKI'S POV ~

"What exactly is going on with Tilda?" Tobi began as he drove me back home. He seemed very worried and I could tell. "Who is this guy she keeps talking about?"

"I wonder. I hope she gets better," I sighed. I was worried as well.

Once again, silence came to settle between us while a worried expression remained on Tobi's face.

Thanks to Tilda's condition, Tobi and I had grown quite closer than before. We drove together to the hospital to see Tilda and went to supermarkets together to get her a few things.

I was happy being with him...but not at the expense of my best friend's health.

I didn't want Tilda's health to seem like a chance for me to shoot my shot.

Besides, I wanted her to be there for me when I would finally gather the courage to do so.

When she would be discharged from the hospital, I was going to talk some sense into her because if not for her carelessness and crazy antics, I wouldn't be this hurt by her condition.

What if she had really died?

There would be no TIKIOLA without Matilda or Kikiola anod I didn't want that to happen.

The drive was soon over and Tobi dropped me in front of my house.

"Take care," He waved.

"I will," I let out a thin smile. "You too."

He was always too simple and straightforward with his words. That was one of the many reasons that got me so scared of letting him know how I felt about him.

What if he sharply refused my proposal?

With all these running through my mind, I watched till his car disappeared from sight.

Just then, I felt a tap on my shoulder. It was my older sister, Teni.

"See as you make me fear," I let out a sigh of relief on learning she was the one who had crept up from behind me.

"What's the latest nau?" She winked at me with a mischievous look we both knew very well.

"Which latest?" I stared blankly at her, pretending not to know what she was talking about.

"Abeg stop pretending jor," She threw her left arm over my shoulder and pulled me into the house with her. "Have you told him sef?"

My gaze fell.

"No," I said in a voice that sounded almost like a whisper.

"Person go snatch am comot for your hand if you nor sharp," She laughed hard while cuddling me.

Teni was only two years older than I was and so did she make up for two more levels of charisma that surpassed mine.

Take away the fashion and wealth from her life, Teni was just the complete definition of werey. I bet that if she was given the chance, she would make a great Lagos bus conductor.

We were greeted by an empty house which was something usual and at a time such as 6:00pm except...

"They went on another date, didn't they?" I shook my head and a smile played on my lips, referring to our parents.

"Yes o. Their own is just date, date and date," Teni laughed.

Our parents had a very known relationship unlike what most Nigerian parents shared.

I had seen many Nigerian parents that never or almost never publicly did romantic stuffs with one another that would make you wonder if they were in a forced marriage but my parents were a special breed.

You could catch them kissing almost everywhere or professing love to one another.

It was funny but all still, it made us quite happy.

~ TILDA'S POV ~

Today was a Thursday.

The day I was finally discharged from the hospital.

Funny how it may sound, Mother didn't show up to take me home. The only people that showed up were Tobi, Kiki, her older sister who had just return home from a university break, Teni and a few other of my classmates.

They were the only ones who had also made out time to visit me at the hospital. They brought flowers and gifts.

Even Abike and her minions were not excluded.

Now I believe that people only start to care or show pity when something bad happens.

These group of people did not fail to make the drive back home lively.

Lola had gotten her driver to take us to my house in her father's limousine and that gave everyone enough room to make me happy.

Getting home, the only person I met was Miriam. The moment her eyes fell on my as she opened the door of the house, she pulled me into a tight embrace and cried.

Everyday the woman gave me reason to see why she should have been the woman that brought me into the world.

The group that brought me home made sure to stay with me for a while and Miriam did not fail to entertain them with food and drinks.

Eric was a clown as always and whenever his jokes made me laugh so hard, Kiki would warn him not to break my healing ribs for her.

It was all fun until they all were ready to leave and I was once more, left alone in a sea of confusion. Miriam had to rush to the market to get a few things before mother would return.

The next thing I did was to take out my phone and open my messages and call history.

There was no conversation nor phone call that was held with a contact named Mr. Sassy rude cold blooded blue eyes.

I quickly opened my gallery and searched through my photos for the ones Miles and I had taken together but still, I couldn't find anything.

Every trace of the boy with blue eyes disappeared and somehow, I was unable to find anything.

Little by little, the pieces began to form a picture and my eyes widened in realization.

Miles...

Miles was the boy in my dreams.

Hey guys. I've not been able to post for some days now due to my phone going blind and NEPA playing an evil role altogether. Updates may not be regular for now but have faith y'all, Ocean eyes will be back full time soon!

"Na me bring am come this world na me go still carry am comot" - I am the one who gave birth to her and I will also be the one to kill her.

"Person go carry am comot for your hand if you nor sharp," - He will be snatched by someone else if you are not fast enough

Werey - someone mad or insane. At times not meant in a bad way but used to describe someone extremely lively.
