What we found out only reinforced the decision to make the judge pay the ultimate price for what he’d done. While he was tough on some defendants, over all he leaned toward sentences that were—in many people’s opinions, including those within the legal community—much too lenient on the criminals who faced him in court.

“A bleeding heart who lets criminals return to the community to continue what they did before, while feeling they managed to beat the system, thanks to him,” Coop muttered at one point.

I agreed. Now all I had to do was figure out how to take the judge out without getting caught in the process. I’d done that for Mick more times than I can count—and for Angel when we worked together. Doing it for myself should be a snap. The problem was, given the prevailing attitude toward the judge, and the numerous threats he’d received, he was well protected. Very well protected.
