Chapter 33: Dung Diggers, Tennin Is Watching
Chiba remained unaware that he was about to become Asuma's bodyguard.
After changing into his new attire and mask, Chiba bid farewell to Fujiki and proceeded to prepare some cardboard. With a sense of satisfaction, he wrote a few large, crooked characters on it. Content with his work, he took to the streets, heading towards the nearest residence of the prestigious first family.
Indeed, his task was once again collecting dung.
Equipped with the perfect scent-masking gear this time, Chiba decided to boldly undertake his duty in broad daylight.
Akamichi residence.
Striding through the entrance gate, Chiba held his head high, devoid of any nervousness.
Thump! Thump! Thump!
"Who are you?"
Just a few steps after entering, a portly young man blocked his path.
Chiba pointed to the cardboard hanging around his neck and then to his mask.
"The Hokage has appointed me as a manure collector."
Upon reading the contents on the cardboard, the bloated teenager seemed skeptical.
"Does the Hokage now appoint excavators?"
Despite the other party's disbelief, Chiba turned the cardboard over.
"Huh? It only took a minute?"
Though still harboring doubts, Akamichi Dingza agreed to let him try, considering it would only take a minute to confirm what was written. After all, the family cesspit was nearly full.
"What you've written, I hope you're not deceiving me."
Leading the young man to the side of the shed, Akamichi Dingza issued a cautionary warning. Subsequently, Chiba entered.
Puff!
Ten seconds later, he emerged.
"What brings you here? Looking for tools?"
Observing Chiba's return, Dingza inquired. Chiba revealed the second cardboard by removing the first.
"Mission accomplished?"
Upon glimpsing the two large characters written on the cardboard, Dingza's eyes nearly popped out.
How was this possible? How did it take only ten seconds?
He distinctly heard the sound of the young man releasing gas upon entering. How could the task be completed so quickly?
"Wait a minute! There are other sheds."
Observing Chiba's intention to leave, Dingza hurriedly convinced him to stay.
The masked young man paused and nodded.
After a while, Dingza of the Akamichi clan bid farewell to the extraordinary dung excavator at the family residence gate, even signing Akamichi's name on the cardboard.
"As expected of the Hokage's designated excrement worker, truly professional!"
Gazing at the departing figure, Akamichi Dingza expressed his admiration.
Hyuga residence.
Initially, Chiba faced the prospect of being turned away, but upon seeing Akamichi's signature on the cardboard, a teenager from the Hyuga family readily agreed.
Efficiency was Chiba's objective.
In a short while, he tidied up the hut at the Hyuga residence.
However, there was an incident as he was leaving.
Digging out dung may have been a trivial matter, but when it came time to sign, an old man appeared and signed as "Hyuga Tennin."
"You've done a remarkable job!"
The old man spoke, smiling as he looked at Chiba. Chiba remained composed and walked away with confident strides.
"Grandfather? What brings you here?"
Hyuga Hiashi was puzzled. How could a matter as insignificant as signing a name warrant his grandfather's presence? And to be praised by him?
After all, Hyuga Tennin had passed on the position of patriarch to Hiashi's father and lived in seclusion in the family's backyard, rarely venturing out.
But this time, he was merely a dung digger. Why would his grandfather appear in person and sign his own name?
At that moment, the aged Hyuga Tennin gazed at the retreating figure of the young man, taking a while to regain his composure.
"Hiashi, investigate this individual. If his identity checks out, try to befriend him..."
Having uttered these words, the old man turned and returned to the backyard.
Hyuga Hiashi: "..."
As the young patriarch of the Hyuga clan, Hiashi could never have imagined that his grandfather would advise him to befriend a manure digger.
However, he knew that his grandfather never spoke without reason.
"Did Grandfather truly open his eyes? Did he perceive something?"
Hiashi pondered in his mind.
He guessed correctly.
Hyuga Tennin had indeed opened his eyes, having sensed the fluctuation of a time-space technique. That was when Chiba came into the view of Hyuga Tennin.
As Chiba commenced cleaning the second hut of the Hyuga residence, the entire process unfolded before Hyuga Tennin's astounded gaze...
