Chapter 12: White Fang's Request

After a hearty dinner, Kakashi dutifully gathered the dishes and went to the kitchen to wash up.

Meanwhile, Obito rubbed his satisfied belly, nodding approvingly.

"Well, Kakashi's definitely got the makings of a great househusband," he mused. "I just wonder which lucky woman—or maybe man—he'll end up with. Hmm…"

As Obito's imagination ran wild, Sakumo suddenly broke the silence.

"Obito, in your eyes, what kind of person do you think I am?"

Before Obito could answer, a familiar system notification popped up in his vision:

[Option 1: "White Fang-senpai, you're a true hero. I feel such a strong connection with you—why don't we become sworn brothers? Reward: Kakashi +1 Nephew Affection.]

[Option 2: "I can't say for sure, but if my father were still alive, I think he'd be just as gentle and dashing as you." Reward: Unlock follow-up mission.]

Looking at these ridiculous options, Obito couldn't help but groan internally.

If I choose Option 1, Kakashi will probably stab me on the spot—straight for the heart, no hesitation.

As for Option 2...

It's way too sycophantic! But at least it's safer. And hey, I'm not picking it because of the reward, okay? Totally not. It's just... Option 1 is a death sentence.

With an expression of admiration and a sincere tone, Obito replied:

"I can't say for sure, but if my father were still alive, I think he'd be just as gentle and dashing as you."

Sakumo froze, visibly moved. He hadn't expected Obito to hold him in such high regard.

He chose not to press further, after all, being likened to a father was already the greatest compliment.

In the kitchen, Kakashi paused mid-scrub, stunned. Obito had once again expanded his understanding of shamelessness.

Sakumo took a deep breath and, in a seemingly casual yet serious tone, asked:

"Then, what do you think of my son, Kakashi?"

Kakashi perked up his ears, curious about Obito's answer.

This time, no system prompt appeared. Obito decided to answer from the heart.

"Kakashi, huh? He's the kind of guy you could call a lifelong friend. Someone who carries the weight of darkness but still strives toward the light. He endures pain yet passes on kindness."

Though he's a bit of a perv, he's practically perfect. As long as he doesn't stab me in the back or... uh, mess with my future wife, we're good.

Sakumo, with his keen eyes for people, could tell Obito was being truthful. He nodded with satisfaction.

"Obito, you're a good kid. It's Kakashi's blessing to have a friend like you."

In the kitchen, Kakashi scoffed, feigning indifference. But the slight upturn of his lips betrayed him, and he found himself washing the dishes faster than usual.

Sakumo stood up with a smile.

"This is our first time meeting, Obito. As your elder, I'd like to give you a gift. Wait here for a moment."

With that, he disappeared into another room to rummage around.

Obito, intrigued, rubbed his hands together in anticipation. What kind of gift could it be?

Before long, Sakumo returned, carrying a katana, and handed it to Obito.

"This blade is called Kageshū, named for its slender shadow in the sunlight. From now on, it's yours."

Crash!

The sound of breaking ceramics came from the kitchen, followed by Kakashi rushing out, his face full of disbelief.

"Father, you're giving Kageshū to him?!"

Obito glanced at the sword in his hands. Seeing Kakashi's reaction, he could immediately tell how precious it was. Hugging the katana tightly, he looked to Sakumo for confirmation.

"White Fang-senpai, isn't this gift a bit too valuable?"

Sakumo shook his head, his expression calm.

"A blade's true worth lies in the hands of its wielder. This sword suits you well. Keep it—and don't let it down."

Kakashi struggled to comprehend.

"Father…!"

Sakumo silenced him with a look before turning back to Obito.

Obito, now thoroughly enamored with the katana, couldn't help but admire its craftsmanship. The blade's perfect length, the intricate red patterns etched onto its surface, and the crisp metallic chime as it slid in and out of its sheath—it was irresistible.

No boy could resist the allure of a masterpiece like this: a roaring sports car, a sparkling blade, or the laughter of a girl.

Carefully storing Kageshū, Obito bowed deeply to Sakumo.

"Thank you, White Fang-senpai. I love it."

Sakumo gave a small nod.

"As long as you like it."

After ruffling Kakashi's hair in consolation, Sakumo turned back to Obito.

"Obito, have you ever studied kenjutsu?"

Obito shook his head honestly.

"Not at all, White Fang-senpai. In fact, I've barely touched a sword before."

Sakumo pondered for a moment before instructing,

"Kakashi, finish cleaning up the kitchen. Obito, follow me."

Reluctantly, Kakashi returned to the kitchen while Obito followed Sakumo to the Hatake training ground.

Picking up a random blade from a nearby rack, Sakumo's entire demeanor shifted. The warmth and gentleness he radiated earlier vanished, replaced by a sharp, imposing aura that demanded reverence.

Obito instinctively took a few steps back, overwhelmed by Sakumo's sheer presence.

Sakumo's gaze deepened, his focus narrowing to the blade in his hand.

"Kenjutsu requires a solid foundation. To achieve anything, you must practice diligently. Since you're a beginner, I'll teach you one move today—Iaido, the art of drawing the blade."

Placing his hand on the hilt, Sakumo demonstrated.

Swish!

The katana flashed, cutting through the air with a brilliance that seemed to tear reality itself.

Obito was left speechless. Damn, that's cool.

By the time he snapped out of his awe, Sakumo had already sheathed his sword and was patiently watching him.

"The essence of Iaido is a decisive, one-hit kill. By harnessing explosive speed in a single moment, you strike before your opponent can react."

"If you're truly interested in kenjutsu, practice this daily. And if possible, study some foundational techniques to complement it."

Obito grinned sheepishly.

"Uncle, that move was amazing! Can you show me again?"

After coaxing Sakumo into demonstrating several more times, Obito finally grasped the basics of Iaido. Bowing deeply once more, he hesitated before asking,

"Thank you for the sword and the lesson, White Fang-senpai. But… may I ask why?"

Sakumo set his blade aside, his eyes clouded with melancholy.

"Obito, you're a clever boy. Lately, I've been facing some challenges. If… and I mean if… something were to happen to me, I hope you'll look after Kakashi for me."
