Chapter 51: Technique VS Nature

The arena still bore the marks of Yukiko's ice as Koshima Kurara and Kaguya Shin took their positions. The contrast between the two could not have been more stark: Shin exuded an aura of raw physical power, while Kurara methodically controlled the placement of her weapons, every movement precise and calculated.

"I hope you're more interesting than that budding medic," Shin sneered, small bony protuberances already visible beneath his skin. "I'm not holding back this time."

Kurara didn't respond, her fingers lightly stroking the hilt of the kusarigama at her belt.

"Begin!"

Shin attacked immediately, bones emerging from his arms in small sharp blades. His speed was impressive, anger at his earlier difficulty with Aoi fueling each strike.

Kurara narrowly avoided the first assault, a kunai already flying in response. But Shin's bone blades easily deflected it.

"Is that all you can do?" Shin laughed, advancing inexorably. "Throwing toys?"

From the stands, the ANBU watched with interest. "The Kaguya boy has raw power," the one in the wolf mask muttered. "But..."

"But he's underestimating his opponent," the one in the crow mask completed.

Kurara continued to retreat, seemingly in difficulty. Her throws seemed less and less accurate, kunai and shuriken missing Shin by ever-widening margins.

"Why don't you use that nice little chain?" Shin taunted, referring to the kusarigama. "Or are you afraid I'll break it like your little blades?"

It was then that something changed in Kurara's expression. An almost imperceptible smile.

" kyoketsu," she muttered, suddenly pulling on a nearly invisible ninja string.

The arena exploded into motion. The seemingly misthrown kunai and shuriken were all connected by a complex web of threads, now strung in a pattern that trapped Shin at the center.

"A trap?" Shin growled, bones emerging from his body more rapidly. "You think simple threads can..."

But Kurara was already in motion. The kusarigama sang in the air, its chain dancing between the threads as if it had a life of its own. Every time Shin snapped a thread, two more seemed to take its place.

"The threads aren't supposed to hold you back," Kurara said, speaking for the first time. "They're just supposed to limit your movement."

Shin roared in frustration, small bones now emerging chaotically from his body. But every thorn, every bone blade he created, ended up tangling further in Kurara's web.

"Raw strength," the crow-masked ANBU commented, "is useless if you don't know how to use it."

The decisive moment came when Shin, now enraged, attempted to break free with an explosion of bones in all directions. But that was exactly what Kurara had been waiting for. In one fluid motion, he used the wires to redirect the force of Shin's expansion against himself.

The bones became entangled with the wires, creating a cage of his own making. The more he struggled, the tighter the trap became.

"Match," Fujimoto-sensei declared, as Shin realized he could no longer move without risking injury from his own bones.

"Interesting," the wolf-masked ANBU muttered.

Kurara approached her trapped opponent, methodically beginning to free him from the web of wires. "Your kekkei genkai is powerful," she said softly. "But power without control is like a weapon without a handle—it hurts the user."

Shin, for the first time, seemed to actually listen.

"The semifinals are decided," Fujimoto-sensei announced. "Kurushimi Misaki versus Koshima Kurara, and Karatachi Shinji versus Yuki Yukiko."

From his position in the bleachers, Ren watched thoughtfully. The fights were becoming more and more revealing, not only of the fighters' abilities, but also of something deeper—the true spirit of Kirigakure, where the fog hid as much as it revealed.
