Chapter 110: Delivery
After Kushina left, Kiba didn't
stay long and returned to his cabin immediately. Upon returning, Kiba frowned.
For some reason, he didn't feel the joy of becoming Tsunade's disciple at all.
As the strongest medical ninja in
Naruto, Tsunade was first-class in both strength and medical ninjutsu—absolute
Kage-level strength.
Moreover, her Strength of a Hundred Seal
technique could be considered second only to the First Hokage's self-healing
abilities. Strictly speaking, it should be the best medical ninjutsu. The First
Hokage's self-healing ability wasn't precisely a jutsu but an inherent ability
that stemmed from his immense vitality and chakra, something only he could
wield.
"But why? Tsunade, one of the Sannin, the
future Fifth Hokage, and the strongest medical ninja, wants to teach me medical
ninjutsu, yet I'm not happy at all?" Kiba frowned, punching a wooden stake as part of his
daily training.
"Boom!"
Kiba's punch cracked the wooden
post with a "click,"
creating a split.
At this moment, Kiba came back to
his senses, glanced at the damaged stake that had just been erected a month
ago, and then looked at the other stakes.
"This stake can't hold up anymore. I have to
get some more."
Kiba stopped training, muttered to himself, then picked up the ax placed in the
cabin and walked towards the woods.
About half an hour later, two new
wooden stakes were erected behind the cabin. Kiba put down the ax with a
thoughtful look on his face.
He was still wondering why Tsunade
wanted to teach him. She might even accept him as a disciple, teaching him
everything, including the Strength of a Hundred Seal technique, enhancing his
strange power further under her guidance.
"This kind of situation is generally
celebrated, right? With the guidance of a famous teacher like Tsunade and the
development of the injury mode, there's no problem in self-protection during
the Third Shinobi War. This has always been a problem I've worried about—like a
sword hanging above my head. This should solve it."
"But why am I not happy at all?"
Kiba continued his daily training,
the thoughtful look on his face growing more intense.
After he finished his daily
training and made up for the previous few days, night had fallen and the sky
was full of stars. Yet, he still couldn't figure it out.
It was a strange feeling he had
never encountered before.
Why?
This question remained unresolved
in his mind as he drifted off to sleep.
Kiba slept soundly this time, and
when he woke up, birds were chirping outside the window, and the warmth of the
sun spread from the quilt to his body.
Kiba yawned, wiped his eyes, then
got out of bed, washed up as usual, and took last night's extra-large Konoha
steamed bun from the small stove. He turned off the fire, closed the door, and
left the cabin.
While gnawing on the bun, Kiba
walked to the meeting place thoughtfully.
He was still struggling with the
feeling of being taught by Tsunade but not feeling excited or happy at all.
Soon, he arrived at the gathering
place, and Hirohiko had already arrived. Yukina seemed to follow Namikaze
Minato directly for practice and didn't come to the meeting place, possibly at
a different location set by Minato.
Kushina, Tsunade, and Jiraiya had
also arrived. Seeing two of the legendary Sannin, who were famous throughout
the ninja world, surprised Hirohiko. Doubts and apprehensions flashed in his
eyes, along with a touch of excitement.
It's that smile again.
Kiba frowned slightly.
At this moment, the smile on
Kushina's face could only be described as intellectual, making her look like an
intellectual and beautiful woman.
However, Kiba felt that this smile
was somewhat off... It was a smile he had never seen before.
In his previous life, he had been
an isolated existence in junior high school and high school. He had no friends,
not even a deskmate. He sat alone in the corner of the classroom, near the back
door.
There were only two things he
could do every day between classes and during breaks—reading books, novels, and
comics, and observing people, though it was more like watching people in a
daze.
Kiba didn't know if he was envious
of conversations, longing for attention, or envious of having friends. But
after years of observation, he gradually became able to make vague judgments
based on people's expressions and movements. He could determine if a person was
in a good or bad mood and roughly infer their intentions.
He could see the look of disgust
his classmates had for him after hearing bad things said about him. He could
see the complacent look of the person who slandered him, a kind of arrogance
that seemed to influence others.
Kiba could distinguish between a
happy smile, a sad smile, a surprised smile, and a relieved smile. But
Kushina's smile seemed like a happy and reassuring smile.
However, he always felt a strange
sense of dissonance.
Kushina, what's wrong?
It may have been a conditioned
reflex or a habit developed from observing people for more than ten years.
Besides often entering a state of deep thought, Kiba sometimes unconsciously
entered a mode of inferring mood and intentions from others' expressions.
However, it was the first time he
was so entangled like today.
Seeing that Kiba had arrived,
Kushina got straight to the point and introduced Tsunade and Jiraiya to them.
"This is Tsunade-sama, and
this is Jiraiya-sensei," Kushina introduced. "They are powerful
ninjas, and they will train you in the future."
Although Kushina was not Jiraiya's
disciple, due to her relationship with Namikaze Minato, she habitually called
Jiraiya "teacher."
And Jiraiya was used to it. After
all, this girl had a very good relationship with Namikaze Minato. When he
taught Minato and his team ninjutsu, Kushina would come over and bring them
some delicious food.
According to her words, "This
is made for Minato, but I'm sorry to see that you don't have anything to eat,
so I made some for you too."
Although Kushina's personality had
been a bit awkward and she wasn't very frank with them, Jiraiya was still very
happy to have such a female disciple, even though she wasn't officially his
disciple.
Now seeing that Kushina had grown
up and taught such excellent disciples as Kiba, Hirohiko, and Yukina, he was
quite happy.
Although he was a little surprised
that Kushina found him to be Hirohiko's sparring partner, he was actually a
little happy in his heart.
After the introduction, Kushina
handed over the right to speak to Jiraiya and Tsunade. Tsunade and Jiraiya
didn't waste time and asked Hirohiko and Kiba to follow them to the practice
site.
Watching Kiba and Hirohiko leave,
Kushina looked at the empty assembly area, where traces of ninjutsu and
taijutsu remained on the ground.
The smile on the corner of
Kushina's mouth slightly faded. She looked up at the blue sky and white clouds
and stretched again.
Now I'm free. What should I do?
The intellectual smile that made
Kiba feel a strange sense of dissonance reappeared on her face.
Then, she left the assembly point.
