Chapter 37: Mito is Back / The Misfortune of Leaders

Lite heard what the Shinigami said and felt that something was wrong. It was strange that he could only help them three times, while the rinnengan could revive as many people as he wanted as long as there was enough chakra, of course, in exchange for the user's life, but that does not change much since at this moment we are giving him a large number of souls in compensation.

However, he was not going to ask that, since he did not want to expose that he had information that he should not possess. For now, he only had to obey that limit.

—  *Sigh* I guess I don't have any choice uh... (Mito)

The shinigami nodded his head and proceeded to fulfill his end of the bargain.

The process was quite simple because it did not directly involve Mito.

All those present witnessed how someone could possess the power to change the laws of the world in such a way that he achieved what was considered practically impossible.

It took no more than ten seconds for the process to finish. Immediately after, Minato approached Mito and sealed her soul to the body. Now the only thing left was to wait the indicated time for Mito to belong completely to the world of the living again.

—  My work here is done. (Shinigami)

Afterwards, the shinigami waved his hand and the soul of all the sacrifices they had gathered were sucked by him. The prisoners, who at first were unconscious, immediately woke up to feel a pain that they were never able to imagine it would be possible to feel for a living being.

A short time later, everything returned to calm, those present felt that they had learned something that few people had the privilege of knowing.

Meanwhile, the most surprised was none other than Mito, who for the first time in so long, experienced something that was normal, but she was deprived of, breathing.

—  I can't believe I missed this feeling so much. (Mito)

She moved her hands, appreciated the world with her senses, marveled at life and appreciated it as she had never done before. 

She was just alive.

—  Are you already leaving? (Hiruzen) 

—  Yes, old man. I don't have much to do here anymore. (Jiraiya)

—  Did you find anything? (Hiruzen) 

Hiruzen and Jiraiya talked about what happened during the Kyuubi attack on the village. By then it was already known by the senior commanders that something had happened that night, something they did not know.

Those accidents were precisely what made Hiruzen grant more power to the clans. But he wasn't the third for nothing, and he wasn't willing to lose influence just like that.

I was simply preparing them to squeeze them in the best way possible when the time comes. That is what he did when the first time he came to power. He found himself in a situation in which almost no one obeyed him, and now it would be much easier for him due to the prestige he accumulated and the experience he has.

However, all of that didn't deviated his attention from the fact that there was a third party that was involved. Without a doubt they sided with Konoha during the attack, but until he knows their motives, who they are, their strength and the information they possess, he will not be able to sleep peacefully. That's why he took advantage of the fact that Jiraiya returned to the village for a while to commission him to investigate the truth.

—  I came to the same conclusion as Shikaku, but I found nothing new. However, I did find something interesting. (Jiraiya)

—  What is it? (Hiruzen) 

—  Checking the barrier that covers the village, I was surprised that in recent months there have been infiltrations of people. Normally the barrier serves as a detector, so practically every ninja and civilian who enters Konoha has their chakra registered, but in this case the barrier found there were those who entered, but their chakra was not registered. That caused no signal to be emitted to be alert. (Jiraiya)

—  That is, the barrier registered that someone entered, but his chakra was blocked and somehow that did not trigger any warning? (Hiruzen) 

—  That's right. (Jiraiya)

Hiruzen felt a headache like never before. That barrier was a defense that until now had worked properly no matter who wanted to enter the village. It had a complex design and thanks to it, Konoha could save a lot on ninjas to patrol, unlike the other villages that did not possess something similar.

—  Old man, I recommend that you modify the barrier, or in any case change the access patterns. (Jiraiya)

—  If only it were that easy. (Hiruzen) 

Hiruzen, of course, wanted to do the same thing, but there was no one in the world skilled enough in fuuinjutsu to do it. That was the problem since Uzushiogakure was destroyed. That was the reason why Mito Uzumaki remained in charge of maintaining the barrier until her death. Kushina, as the last Uzumaki in her time, also did not possess the mastery necessary to take the place of Mito, maybe with time, but sadly…

—  *Sigh* I get it, but I'm not able to do anything about it either. I consider myself good with seals, but I can't compare myself to Uzumaki. (Jiraiya)

Hiruzen gritted his teeth hard, it is true that when the Uzumaki were attacked, Konoha managed to loot an important part of the knowledge about seals, but no matter how hard the village sages (intelligent people) tried, they could not grasp the essence of his technique. Try as they might, they could only conclude that they were missing the core of it all. 

Hiruzen led a great mission to find that lost information, but they were never able to locate it. He also did not dare to demand anything from Mito because of how delicate the subject was, a misstep and the barrier of the village was history, it was not worth it. He could only conclude that that information was lost in the invasion or destroyed by the Uzumaki themselves so that no one would take over their legacy. Doubt Mito? If he was sure that she possessed the information then he would have confronted her, but since that was not the case, he left it that way and eventually, it went out of his head, moreover, he trusted Mito enough that she would never do something negative to the village. And in a sense, she never did. 

All that went through Hiruzen's mind, but in the end, he could only let out a sigh of exhaustion.

So what if they had the secrets of the Uzumaki technique? Could they cultivate a fuuinjutsu master who is able to compare themselves to Uzumaki? The answer is no. 

In this world, if a family uses a technique and it is passed from generation to generation, then the bodies of the descendants will gradually adapt, suffering slight mutations, until they reach a point where the technique becomes part of them and their ability to perform it is much greater than any other person who compares them. 

That's what happened with clans with history. The easiest example to understand would be that of the Akimichi, anyone else can perform their body lengthening technique, but it would not compare to the potential that clan can exploit by making use of their bodies.

That was understood by Hiruzen, and that is why he was so discouraged, if they wanted to make use of that knowledge, then they would have to invest an amount of resources that would make the richest of nations tremble, not to mention the time it would take, generations of ninjas, to achieve it.

—  For now, I will change the pattern. It is all I can do. (Hiruzen) 

The idea was good, but he didn't know that it wouldn't affect anything at all. If Kushina wanted to enter undetected, a simple change in the entry pattern wouldn't be enough to stop her, and even if the old man managed to block her, now Lite's group had Mito, who knew the barrier better than anyone.

—  Where will you go now? (Hiruzen) 

—  I will visit the other villages, the war is over, but I prefer to keep an eye on them to be prepared for any eventuality. (Jiraiya)

—  Be careful. (Hiruzen) 

—  Yes, yes. See ya, old man. (Jiraiya)

He turned and left. In his stay he visited Naruto for a moment, but he did nothing more than that, he was confident that his sensei would know how to take care of him.

Country of the herb

What could previously be considered a place that was improving and recovering from the war, was now in a state that could only be considered a total hell.

Two red-haired women in masks walked the streets, from their backs came shiny chains that caused anyone who ever saw them a total terror. They knew that if they were even just touhed by them, it would be over for them.

At their feet were countless corpses, these belonged to the ninjas who tried to stop them in the beginning. Not only ninjas, but anyone who tried to stop them suffered a catastrophe.

This country was not considered strong, but for only two people to be able to leave it in such a state only spoke of the power they possessed.

—  Who are you? What do you want? 

A man was in front of them, they concluded that it was the leader of this place.

His whole body trembled and he could not think of a single reason why such misfortune should have befallen his country. He had made sure not to offend anyone powerful, even in the previous war he limited himself to not meddling while the other countries used his country as a battlefield.

—  We came to look for someone. (Mito)

These people were Mito and Kushina, who received the information from Lite that an Uzumaki was being held captive in this place and used as walking medicine.

Obviously, this infuriated the two redheads, who soon asked for all the information he had. Upon learning that there may also be a baby at risk, they headed to the place and soon unleashed hell on earth by confirming the information with a brief investigation.

It can be said that as of this moment, the country of grass was totally destroyed, if they were not annexed by a larger country, they would lose all means of defense. But there was no reason for Lite to let out a land where they could thrive so comfortably, right?

Kushina and Mito, by wiping out all the ninjas, spies from the other nations were also included, so the news would take time to reach the others. Until then, they had free letter to do whatever they wanted in that place.

In saying that, Mito pointed to her red hair. She was not afraid that the great nations would become alert with the appearance of a strong Uzumaki, they just never have to know.

On the other hand, when the leader heard Mito's words, he immediately understood why his village had suffered such a disaster. His heart broke and his will instantly buckled. He knew there was no future for him or his land.
