Chapter 126: The Curtain Falls
Outside Konoha.
In an underground chamber, Baishi's figure materialized silently.
Scanning his surroundings to ensure safety, Baishi crossed his legs, formed seals with his hands, and performed the S-Rank spiritual ninjutsu—Spiritual Transformation Technique.
As his eyes closed, a translucent figure emerged from his head.
At that moment, it felt as if Baishi's soul had left his body, freed from its physical constraints.
The spiritual form shot upward, transforming into a streak of white light that sped out of the underground chamber, ascending into the sky.
Using his heightened perception, Baishi quickly locked onto Uchiha Obito's location. In a flash, the streak of light descended into Konoha.
"What is that?"
Several Uchiha shinobi with active Sharingan noticed the anomaly and voiced their confusion, watching the streak of white light streak toward the battlefield.
But Baishi paid them no mind, his trajectory set on Obito.
"Hmm?"
As Baishi's spiritual form collided with the glowing Susanoo, he was met with strong resistance, as though trapped in a viscous liquid. Movement became arduous.
However, Baishi remained unfazed. He knew this resistance was the chakra comprising the Susanoo, actively repelling invaders.
Releasing a surge of his chakra, Baishi's spiritual form shone brightly, breaking through the barrier with ease.
As his spiritual form merged into Obito's, the battlefield seemed to pause.
---
Inside Obito's Mindscape
Obito, standing amidst the familiar setting of his mental world, froze when a new figure appeared out of nowhere.
"It's you!?"
Obito's voice carried shock and disbelief as he recognized Baishi.
But more than surprise, Obito was troubled by the realization that Baishi had infiltrated his mental space.
After awakening his Mangekyo Sharingan, Obito's spiritual strength had grown tremendously, far surpassing that of ordinary shinobi. Breaking into his mindscape should have been impossible.
Baishi, however, felt the intensity of Obito's spiritual strength as well. The Mangekyo Sharingan wasn't just a tool of immense power—it amplified its wielder's mental capabilities to extraordinary levels.
Had it not been for the System assisting his evolution, Baishi admitted that he wouldn't have had the qualifications to stand before Obito in such a confrontation.
But with his augmented spiritual strength, Baishi now stood on nearly equal footing.
This gave him the confidence to invade Obito's mental space. By doing so, he could ensure Obito's inability to escape using Kamui or any other means.
However, Baishi knew their mental strengths were too evenly matched to ensure his victory outright. As such, he needed to rely on external assistance.
Seeing Baishi's glowing form, Obito asked, "What kind of ninjutsu is this?"
Baishi smirked. "Trying to stall for time?"
With that, Baishi lunged at Obito, ignoring the question entirely.
Obito frowned, realizing that his attempt to buy time had failed. Without a choice, he braced himself for the clash.
The two figures collided, their clash resembling a chaotic whirlwind of spiritual energy.
In the mental realm, time flowed differently. Minutes could pass here, while only seconds elapsed in the real world.
As they exchanged blows, their mental energies clashed, with neither side willing to relent. In such a battle, victory would go to the one whose mental resilience outlasted the other.
Obito attempted to use his Mangekyo Sharingan's hypnotic abilities to destabilize Baishi's will, but the latter activated his Level VIII Mental Resistance, shrugging off the effects with relative ease.
After what felt like half an hour, the scales began to tip.
Baishi noticed a subtle faltering in Obito's movements—a sign that his opponent's mental strength was nearing its limit.
Suddenly, Obito froze. The space around them rippled violently as if on the verge of collapse.
Sensing his opportunity, Baishi surged forward, unleashing a final spiritual strike that shattered Obito's mental form into countless fragments.
The mental world collapsed entirely.
---
As Baishi's spiritual strike landed, Obito's physical body convulsed violently. The blue glow of his Susanoo flickered and vanished, leaving his body vulnerable.
Taking advantage of the opening, Danzo, who had been lying in wait, struck without hesitation.
A kunai plunged into Obito's heart with deadly precision.
Watching from afar, Baishi smiled faintly. Danzo had done exactly what he'd expected.
Despite his efforts to intervene, Minato arrived too late to prevent the attack. Instead, he was forced to watch as Danzo's blade dealt the fatal blow.
Obito's eyes flickered open briefly, the light in them already dimming. His Mangekyo Sharingan faded as his life force drained away.
Sensing the danger to his life, Obito's instincts urged him to activate Kamui and escape. But Baishi's destruction of his mental form left him unable to focus.
Obito's spirit broke, his body followed, and he crumpled lifelessly to the ground.
---
The once-formidable Uchiha Obito, whose plans had the potential to upend the shinobi world, met an unexpectedly unceremonious end.
Had it not been for Baishi's intervention, Obito might have slipped away once more.
But this time, there was no escape.
Though Minato's face was etched with sorrow, Danzo's expression betrayed his hidden elation. His gaze lingered on Obito's body, his thoughts undoubtedly focused on the Mangekyo Sharingan.
Little did Danzo know, his actions and ambitions had played perfectly into Baishi's hands.
Baishi watched from the shadows, his presence undetected by those below.
"A clean resolution," he murmured to himself before disappearing into the night, leaving no trace behind.
