Mystic Thief

Seventeen-year-old Devon Oasis became an orphan at the tender age of seven when his parents fell victim to an invasion. The tragedy occurred after their rival kingdom, Feuer, stole the power crystals that energized the defensive pillars of Devon's home kingdom, Audaznimo. The kingdom of Audaznimo was attacked on the same night the crystals were stolen, although the assault did not originate from Feuer. Audaznimo, having placed unwavering trust in the impregnable defense of the pillars, had let their guard down. Unfortunately, the pillars failed, resulting in a massacre of innocent lives. The method by which Feuer managed to dismantle the supposedly impenetrable towers remained a mystery to all. Although Audaznimo managed to push back the invaders, it was too late—the damage was already done. Devon, having lost his parents during the invasion, was fortunate to find solace with his uncle, the leader of a theft gang within the kingdom. Initially hesitant to involve his nephew in their illicit activities, Devon's uncle ultimately decided to impart his knowledge, believing it would benefit his nephew in various ways. Thus, Devon was introduced to the clandestine world of thievery. He became a part of the group, a group of young people of similar ages who had to steal to be able to sustain the orphanage. They were always reminded by his uncle that they were only stealing to make sure they survived at the orphanage since the kingdom didn't care about them and went on to lay out certain morals for them as thieves. However, Devon found those morals to be pointless because he had grown to love the thrill of stealing, the great sensation that came from being chased after taking someone's possessions. If there was anything he wanted, he was going to take it no matter what because to him, upholding morals as a thief was pointless and his fate as a thief was already sealed. Excerpt: "You know this is a B-ranked mission so Emilia will go with you and please try not to do anything careless?" His uncle's words rang in his mind as he freely tumbled down the hill of sand and when he finally hit the floor, he lost consciousness. [ Host is active ] [ System rebooting ] "What's going on?" He groaned as he sat up on the floor and pulled out the knife that was stuck on the left side of his abdomen, he was bleeding but surprisingly, he couldn't focus on that. [ Reboot completed ] [ Hello, Devon ] [ Your Master Thief System Is Active ] "What the heck is going on?" After mumbling those words, his vision slowly began to fade until he crashed down to the floor and passed out. What he obtained that day was a system that aligned perfectly with his major goal in life. "If all I have to do to become better at stealing is to keep stealing then that means I'm never going to stop for anything or anyone." ______ The story is going to start out a bit slow paced but I assure you that you're in for a ride because it won't take long before everything speeds up and the plot starts to get revealed bit by bit, enjoy! Chapter Five: Basic Tier Fire Boar

At first, Devon thought it was just a normal boar until Emilia called his attention to the fur.

The normal wild boars around in the forest of Audaznimo normally had brown fur, but those weren't the only types of wild boar in the forest.

Fire boars also existed in this forest, they were just like the normal ones, the only difference was that they had a little bit of red fur beneath their normal brown fur, and worst of all they could breathe fire, yeah, just like dragons.

These fire boars weren't the only animals in the forest with special properties but they were certainly one of the most dangerous ones and also one of the reasons why the forest was dreaded by many.

Devon slowly began to get up from the floor with his hand on the hilt of his sword as he was ready to draw out his weapon at any moment.

"Don't move, Emilia." He muttered with his gaze on the boar.

She responded with a nod but she had her hand on one of her arrows just in case.

It looked like the boar itself was being cautious because, under normal circumstances, it should have attacked them by now.

But, all of that changed as soon as Devon took a step toward it.

The beast let out a loud snort before suddenly charging toward him.

"Oh, no, not good."

Before the beast could get to him, Emilia shot out an arrow which hit the boar on one of its legs immediately halting its movement.

The boar let out a high-pitched squeal before turning its gaze to Emilia.

It was clear from that squeal that the boar was really pissed off now but its movement seemed to have become restricted somewhat now as it was staggering.

Devon wanted to use that opportunity to take care the boar but the fire was something to be really cautious about and before he could make a move, the boar let out a stream of fire, not towards him but towards Emilia who was having a hard time moving.

"No!" Devon yelled as he quickly dived toward her.

He was a little late though, as the fire had already gotten to her before he got to her wrapped his arms around her, and rolled away with her.

He was fast enough to avoid taking any serious burns from the flames, but the same could not be said for Emilia.

Her right leg had taken some serious burn from that flame and was still red from the impact and she was feeling the intense pain.

Devon turned his gaze to her face after keeping it on her leg for a while and just seeing tears roll down her eyes made a whole switch flip in his mind.

He bit his lower lip in anger before he quickly grabbed three arrows from her arrow pack and turned his gaze to the boar which was on one knee now.

There was only one logical explanation for why the boar was acting like that after only getting shot by one arrow, the arrow Emilia used was poisoned.

"You bastard! She's suffered enough today!" He screamed in anger before he hurled all three arrows toward the beast.

One of the arrows went directly for an eye while the other two pierced through other parts of its body.

The beast let out a loud growl which was followed by a screech, and it looked like it was about to do something but Devon wasn't planning on giving it that chance.

He quickly closed up on it and raised his sword above it.

"Just die!" He screamed before stabbing the blade through the boar's throat.

The boar struggled a little between little snorts before finally giving up.

It was only after the beast crashed to the floor that he was able to get a closer look at its neck and see the single mark.

'Single mark, it was only a basic tier beast.' He said subconsciously.

That explained why it didn't put up much of a fight and that was a huge relief because if the beast had been even just a tier higher, things would have ended in a more drastic situation.

After making sure that the beast was really dead, Devon let out a sigh of relief before turning his gaze to Emilia who was sobbing softly now.

He slowly staggered to her and after getting to her, he dropped to his knees.

Looking at the burn now, it didn't look as serious as it did the last time he looked at it but that didn't excuse the fact that it was still a serious burn.

"I'm sorry." He muttered before he picked up his robe and used his sword to cut some part of it.

Emilia wanted to say something but all her words were getting sucked in between her sobs and groans, she was trying really hard to stop herself from crying out loud.

Devon slowly evened out the piece of cloth he cut out with his hands.

He was going to cover the area with the cloth and just as he placed it on that part of her skin, she immediately pushed his hands away along with the cloth.

Devon let out a sigh before looking up to see that her face was covered with tears now and her eyes looked quite weak from all the crying.

"You know you make me forget how old you really are with all the things you can do whenever we're out here." He said before he stretched his hands toward her face and cleaned her tears. "None of us really should be doing things like this but we have to survive so…."

After cleaning her tears, he noticed that she was now trying hard to stop any other tear from falling out.

"It's okay, if it wants to come out, let it out."

After saying that, he watched as the tears dropped from her eyes.

He smiled at her before turning his gaze to her burnt leg.

"Now, just calm down and let me cover it lightly, you'll feel better after." He said with a calm voice.

"I know." She muttered before slowly closing her eyes.

This time, there was no struggle from her as Devon slowly covered the burn with the piece of cloth.

After that, he knew they had to leave the forest quickly to avoid having to face another beast.

He had to carry Emilia on his back because there was no way she was going to be able to walk on her own in her condition.

He was battered himself but at least he was in a good enough condition to walk on his own and also carry someone.

He was able to avoid the guards on duty and get to the hidden entrance to the underground hideout below the orphanage.

Avoiding the guards was almost a daily routine for him so it really wasn't a problem.

"Not again!"

Erina quickly sprang up from her seat as soon as she saw Devon walk into the room with Emilia on his back.

She seemed to be having a chat with John when the two walked in.

"You went and did it again, Devon," John uttered as soon as he read the situation.

Devon ignored him and slowly dropped Emilia on the treatment bed before slowly removing the cloth he used to cover the burn.

"Erina, please her leg."

"What happened to her?" Erina asked with a shocked expression on her face.

This was the first time she was seeing an injury this serious since she had been taking care of the injuries of her mates.

"We ran into a fire boar on our way back, but none of that is important now, just start healing it."

"Okay."

Her hands suddenly took a green glow before she slowly placed them on the burn.

"A fire boar, it was basic tier, right?" Erina asked.

"Yeah," Devon replied.

"It would have been okay if it was just you, why did you have to drag spicy hair in with you? And the worst part is that you don't even look that hurt." John said as he slowly made his way to the area.

"John, please keep your voice down, I want to keep this under wraps, I don't want Uncle to hear anything about this."

"Hear anything about what?"

That voice took Devon by surprise, and when he turned around, he saw his uncle standing there with his arms crossed and he didn't have the happiest looks on his face.

"Looks like he already found out," John muttered.
