Joseph stepped back, and couldn't help but sigh. "I must be completely smitten by you."
Lucille couldn't help but laugh, her tone softened. "You have to let me try."
Even though the Mellings, and Decker, the inspector general, had put her through the experience, Lucille still believed that one should not generalize from a single instance. Not everyone could be dismissed with one fell swoop.
Putting aside those who tarnished the reputation of the inspectors, she thought, there must be some good ones out there.
Even if the final judgment failed to match her expectations, she still had many fallback options.
The main point was she wouldn’t disadvantage herself.
Joseph deeply looked at Lucille, eventually compromising. "I will pick you up the day after tomorrow at the latest."
