Chapter 86: Wise Advice

As Kang Lei watched the live broadcast of Cai Hung and his father being chartered off into a police car, a wave of emotions flowed through him at seeing the man who has haunted his dreams for many nights. Kang Lei had the sickening feeling that the higher ups he was affiliated too would try their best to have him release and most likely come after Dominic.

The thought of Dominic getting hurt was too horrifying to bear, he quickly grabbed his phone wanting to hear the comforting voice he had become so accustomed too.

"My love did you miss me that much you had to call" Dominic said the second he answered.

Kang Lei blushed he'll never get use to Dominic's constant shameless flirting. "I didn't miss you, I — I— was just checking want you wanted for dinner" he face palmed himself. Kang Lei has never been in a relationship and with everything happening so fast he was finding it hard to not be clingy and annoying, apart from reading various romance books and getting the odd chance to watch dramas at grandpa Chongs house, he had no personal experience with relationships

Dominic chuckled knowing how easy it is to make his beloved shy, "anything you make me for dinner I'll eat my love" he replied.

Kang Lei thought for a moment and realised he didn't know what Dominic's favourite food was, he paused hesitant to ask Dominic such a question, looking at his ring finger a sadden feeling came over him. He had said yes to marrying a man whom he didn't even know what his favourite food was, in fact what did he know of Dominic.

"Kang Lei are you there?" Dominic finally spoke waking him from his thoughts.

"Yes am here" he replied sounding depressed.

"Honey are you sure? Did something happen you sound upset" Dominic Instantly recognised the change in Kang Lei.

"Oh no am fine, it's nothing I promise, you get back to your work I'll see you this evening bye" he quickly said hanging up the phone, clenching it in his hand feeling frustrated with himself.

"Awww how am I supposed to be a good wife if I don't even know what my own husbands favourite food his" he scolded himself.

"well that's easy dear, just ask the person who gave birth to him" Mrs Lanxian stated out of nowhere startling Kang Lei.

"Mrs Lan—- eerrm mother" he corrected himself after seeing Mrs Lanxian giving him the side eye.

Mrs Lanxian sat on the sofa patting the area next to her indicating for Kang Lei to sit next to her, "come sit next to me dear"

"Hmm" Kang Lei nodded his head and did as he was told.

"Now Kang Lei we're going to be family soon so am hoping that our relationship will become stronger as time goes by and besides am not scary right?" Mrs Lanxian looked innocently at Kang Lei.

Kang Lei shock his head "no mother, you've been great in fact you've been perfect and even treated me and BoJing so well I could never repay you"

"Repay… the only thing I need you to do is love my son, so am going to ask you this do you love Dominic?"

"Yes mother I do, I love him with all my heart, it scares me how much I love him and I don't even know him, everything just started so chaotic I don't know if it's real or not. For instance will we later dislike each other once we get to know each other. Am afraid he'll hate me once he finds out the real me, like the problems in my head that hunts me at night. But most of all am afraid of what others will say when they see someone like me by his side will he turn his back on me and BoJing?" Kang Lei sighed tears treating to escape his eyes, his heart was heavy and he was trying his best to hide his insecurities from Dominic and everyone but right now he could no longer hold back.

Mrs Lanxian held his hands, "look at me dear, I understand your worries I really do, you wouldn't be normal if you didn't have such concerns. But let me give you a bit of advice, we are not fortune tellers it doesn't matter if we've known a person ten years or five minutes, no one can predict how their futures will go. But what you can do is take each day one step at a time, each struggle head on and bravely face each obstacle. But mostly importantly you've got to do it together as one, if you cry share you tears with him, if you're broken share the pain and you must do the same, because the purpose of having the other is so they can help carry whatever burden you may have.

Dominic is a good man and also my son and no matter what I know he'll stand right beside you and BoJing protecting you both with his life all you need to do is have faith in him and yourself okay" Mrs Lanxian gently said her eyes filled with love and genuine care for Kang Lei.

Her words resonated within Kang Lei, she was right they may have a different love sorry to most but they loved each other regardless and all he needed to do was put is fears and insecurities aside and pour all his love into their relationship.

"Thank you mother" he smiled embracing Mrs Lanxian into his arms.

"Anytime my dear, now what was you mumbling about earlier, did you want to do something special for Dominic?"

"Yes mother I wanted to cook him dinner, but I didn't know what he likes"

Mr Lanxian chuckled "haha! Now you're going to be surprised when I say this to you, but if you have seen Michael you will understand why. Now as you know Dominic was born in America and his best friend is Michael that troublesome favourite brat of mine. Well the two grew up together and often spent their time at each other's home. Now even though Dominic maybe Chinese he's very much a lover of Caribbean food, yes odd I know but the boy loves himself a good fried chicken with rice and peas. Now my best friend Michael's mother she use to cook it for him every Sunday and no one here can do it like she does and no matter how many times she tells me the recipe I always get the rice and peas wrong. Hey why don't I give her a call and you talk to her?"

"Really! Are you sure she won't mind" Kang Lei beamed.

"Ofcourse not you're her daughter-in-Law too and besides she already knows everything about you. Oh one more thing before we call you should know there's no point asking her about measurement of any kind. Am pretty sure she doesn't own any food measuring equipment, each time I ask her how much water and seasoning I need she repeats the same thing 'let the holy sprit guide you', till this day I have no idea what she means so just guess as you go along and pray it's taste okay in the end" Mrs Lanxian exclaimed picking up the phone.

Kang Lei laughed "haha! cooking is mostly about guessing so am sure I'll be able to get what she means, don't worry Mother".

Kang Lei smiled for him Dominic was so special in more than one way, even in what he likes to eat.

Just as Mrs Lanxian called her best friend Dominic appeared around the corner, "honey!" He called out walking over to Kang Lei sounding a bit out of breath.

"Dominic… wh—what are you doing here" Kang Lei asked startled.

"You sounded upset on the phone and you hung up so suddenly I was worried, are you okay" he asked fully focused on Kang Lei completely ignoring is mother.

Kang Lei could help but laugh, Dominic was just too cute "you're so cute… am fine love in fact mother spoke with me and now am feeling great, so go back to work I want to surprise you when you come back later" he said lovingly giving Dominic a kiss on his cheek then pushing him gently to go away. Dominic who was in a trance by Kang Lei's behaviour was unable to move, wanting to take his lover away to their room so he can ask for more plus extras.

"Honey am already surprised so now can I take you upstairs I want more surprises" he said with eyes wide like a little puppy begging his master for more attention.

Mrs Lanxian slapped him around the head "ouch, mother what that for" he cried out.

"Because your like a damn dog in heat, leave him alone for one second you darn beast, now get going you're being a nuisance" scrolled Mrs Lanxian.

"Okay, okay" he said unwillingly leaning into Kang Lei's ear, "honey you escape now but not tonight" he whispered kissing kang Lei ear, turning his lover on kang Lei bit his Lower lip trying to hold himself from falling again for this mans charms.
