Chapter 16: Hope to Live [4]
"Munch, munch, munch!" After eating half a piece of bread Shiro drank a cup of water with the newly bought cup.
"We can at least survive a month with this food. Why does mom have to work?" Sera who was beside Shiro asked.
"Does it still hurt?"
"No..." Today morning Shiro had woken up to Sera's muffled screams. Apparently, the pain suddenly assaulted her.
With worry in his eyes, Shiro wanted to give her medications, but unfortunately, he couldn't identify which was what.
But fortunately, the intensity of her pain slowly decreased.
"I'm going out. Come with me." Shiro abruptly said. There was no way he could leave this dumb sister of his home alone.
Sera would seldom leave the home when Loyola wasn't there. It wasn't that she wasn't allowed to do so but she stayed at home on her own will, trying her best to help Loyola as she'd make a few sea shell toys.
"But I wanna make some toys..."
"No, just look at your pale face. We'll search Mom and then look for old man Mornil." Shiro said with a determined face and he gave Sera another cup of water.
Finally, after drinking it they headed towards the shabby-looking door. Sera who was a little taller than Shiro with somewhat more strength tried to open the door. However no avail
'Looks like that wave of pain left her exhausted and drained.' Shiro made an internal note right after which he too used all his strength to open the door.
He was used to squinting his eyes while doing so, as the sudden entrance of the light would render him blind for a few seconds.
Though the morning light was somewhat dim, it was still better to be safe than sorry.
Creak!
Ba-dum! Ba-dum! Ba-dum!
Shiro who was very optimistic froze. If Sera's condition had invoked worry in his heart, then the scene in front of him sickened Shiro, and his heart twisted.
"M-mother!" Sera exclaimed.
What- What is this feeling?! Shiro's pupils dilated as his heartbeat sped up.
"Haa, haa, haa." Frosty breaths could clearly be seen, exhaled in a ragged manner from Shiro.
Sera instantly dashed front hugging Loyola who had collapsed on the ground.
D-dead?
N-no! It can't be!
W-why!
[Darkness]
Darkness slowly enveloped Shiro's mind, which was already filled with negative thoughts. With trembling steps, he slowly walked towards his mother.
Shiro started to go out of the house independently when he was merely 4 years old. Young, very young however Shiro had been a genius. He started walking at the age of 1 and could already speak and write full sentences at the age of three. He also had quite a philosophical mind.
He was 4 years old when he went out of the house, and this was also the first time he lied to his mother.
I'll just follow the safe paths!
This was a lie. A lie that Shiro said.
He would sometimes go to other routes and stealthily hide, looking at the brawls with interest. Sometimes he was caught but managed to escape.
Naturally, he had seen deaths. After the killer left the dead body to rot, Shiro would sometimes touch the dead person.
Cold. Without any life. Their breath was non-existent and there was no heartbeat.
Their face was pale. The paleness was similar to the one present on Loyola's face.
Shiro's heart sank even further as he finally reached her. With trembling palms, he slowly placed his palm on her.
'I'm sorry mother! I couldn't save you... Why? Why? Why? Wh-'
[Light]
Shiro removed his hand from Loyola and placed his other palm.
Tears flooded his eyes.
Tears of happiness and joy, tears of relief.
She's alive! She's alive!
A ray of light. A small ray of light was instantly ignited amongst the darkness.
"Mother! Mother!" Shiro screamed at the top of his lungs as he tried to lift his mother.
It was impossible.
In the end, he could just drag her. The rough surface resulted in some wounds on Loyola.
Muscles protested as tears fell down. But Shiro didn't give up continuing to drag her.
'Please. Don't... Don't die!' Shiro begged from the depths of his heart as he finally brought Loyola inside.
There was no way a boy like him could lift her to bed. He placed the two pillows down and covered them with a blanket and leaves to make them softer. Finally, with Sera's help, he laid Loyola on top of the soft area.
"What should I do? The medicins? No, I'll end up killing Her!" Shiro almost pulled his hair.
Someone who knows about medications.
Who can he even rely on?
Sera?
F*ck!
Since when did I become so stupid?
Mornil! That F*cking old man!
"Sera! Old man Mornil! I'll go call him! You protect mom! Oki?"
"Oki!" Sera said, somewhat weakly. After she affirmed, Shiro instantly dashed at the topmost of his speed.
He used all the shortcuts his mother gave him to go towards the Sea Shore. Mornil actually lived near the seashore.
Mornil. You old man, only you can help my mother. I hope that you prosper, I hope you have an additional 30 years to sigh as much as you want, to your heart's content. Please, I'm just begging you! Help my mother! Save her!
Tears once again blurred Shiro's eyes, but he wiped them instantly.
This is no time to cry. F*ck this is no time to breath too. I have to find that old man as soon as possible!
Huff! Huff! Huff!
Shiro felt as though his chest was burning. But he didn't care, right now he just wanted to save his mother.
Finally, he appeared in front of Mornil's house.
"Old man! Old man Mornil! My mother! Save her!" Je quickly smashed his tiny fists on the shabby-looking door.
Old man?
F*ck why ain't you coming?
F*ck! F*ck! F*ck!
Bang! Bang! Bang!
"Old man! Please... I'm... I'm begging you!"
