Dawn had fallen as I walked on wet sand; my eyes onlooking the streak of violet painted across the skies. Sitting by the lake with their toes dipped in cool water, Ophelia admired the same sight with her head resting on Ray's shoulder. Madelyn, however, was nowhere in sight. Perhaps tending to something else inside the hotel, she'd distanced herself from the lovebird for the time being.
Either way, walking up close to the two, I had to break the moment.
"How are you doing?" I asked Ophleia, standing beside the duo.
Raising her head from his shoulder, she turned to the side to look at me. With but a faint smile across her pale lips she answered in a faint voice.
"Not too good," flickering involuntarily her eyelids were barely keeping themselves open.
