My Intergalactic Soulmate

[WARNING: Violence and gore] “Did I just kill her?” Alexis was lying on the ground with wounds and bruises all over her. And to add to that she appeared to be lifeless. But slowly a soft crackling sound was heard. Alexis’s body was glowing in azure color. It seemed as if she was on fire. “No, no, no… you can’t disappear. Please don’t disappear.” But rather than disappearing, Alexis was now levitating in the air. Her whole body was lit in the azure fire. Her emerald eyes were now glowing like green balls of fire. Her dark ginger hair was floating aggressively behind her. She looked fearsome and at the same time also looked captivating. The fire around her was starting to engulf her. And after a while, an energy blast left her body. The blast was so powerful that the wall and structures around her were turned to mist. The History - II

After crying for a long time, Melissa finally calmed down. Her eyes and lips were slightly swollen and red. She wiped her eyes and nose and took a deep breath. Finally, the secrets that were eating her from the inside were now out in the open and she felt several pounds lighter.

Alexis still had some questions about her father. After Melissa cried her heart out and after she calmed down, Alexis started her inquiry. "What was his name?"

Melissa scoffed and then answered, "He said that it was Alfred Reynolds. But I doubt that it was his real name."

Alexis nodded to agree with her mother because the name didn't sound like it was from C-31. She thought that her father might have used an alias in order to blend in during the time of war.

The curiosity didn't falter from Alexis's emerald eyes. She wanted to know more things about her father when her mother was talking about him. So she continued her queries, "What was he like? I mean he didn't have any kind of powers like mine right?"

Melissa knew that Alexis had somehow recalled her memories but didn't know that she had recalled every smallest of conversations and details. Melissa was quite taken aback when Alexis tried to reconfirm about her father's powers.

Melissa gazed at her daughter's eyes which were very much like her father's, the only difference was that she didn't hate the pair of eyes that were in front of her. "No, he was just a normal Celinian. Inara said that you were a rare case of genetic mutation."

"So, he never tried to contact you after he vanished that day?" Alexis thought that perhaps her mother shut off her father and severed their relationship after he suddenly ran away from their lives.

Alexis didn't want her father to be so cruel and heartless, who didn't try to know if his child was a son or a daughter, and who didn't care if they were even alive or not.

But Melissa's answer pinched Alexis right on the spot. Melissa shrugged her shoulders and slowly whispered, "No".

And then there was dead silence in the room. Melissa was gloomy all over again. And so was Alexis.

Melissa broke the silence after some time. "I waited, Alexis" She took a deep breath; her thoughts were wandering to the past again.

"I waited for a long time for him to return back. I was even ready to accept his any silly excuse. All I wanted was for him to show up at the door and apologize for running away." Melissa clenched her fists at the thought of how naïve she was.

Alexis held her mom's hand and tried to comfort her. Melissa kept on opening up to her daughter.

"I didn't want to shift to another location even when this neighborhood started to turn bad. I thought that what if he decided to come home one day and he didn't find us? So, I kept on waiting, but that day never came."

Sadness lingered in Melissa's eyes. She puckered her lips in disappointment when she thought about those lonely days.

"After a few years, I gave up on him. I hated him for abandoning us, hating him made my life much easier."

Alexis now understood why Melissa never talked about her father. She realized how hard it must have been for her mother to raise a kid alone. And how much harder it must have been when her husband just disappeared one day like he never existed.

"I'm sorry to hear that mom. I cannot even imagine what you must have gone through all by yourself." Alexis was now regretting for lashing out on Melissa yesterday. She didn't deserve such harsh words from her own daughter just for wanting to protect her from the cruel world out there.

Melissa noticed that Alexis was reflecting on her yesterday's behavior. So she tried to smile from under her sorrowful eyes and tried to cheer up Alexis. "Now, I guess I'm just attached to this home. After all, this is where you grew up. We have so many wonderful memories here."

Alexis also tried to smile, just for her mother's sake.

Melissa then changed the topic as she didn't want to keep on scraping her painful past. "I think Vorian is a good man. He didn't know you yet when he took you to the hospital right?"

Alexis's face immediately changed when she heard Melissa mention about Vorian. She felt a little shy as she had never had conversation about her boyfriend with her mother, other than yesterday's argument.

Alexis nodded her head with a soft smile, "Yes, we didn't know each other back then. He just happened to find me lying unconscious on the road."

Melissa also gave a bright smile and said, "And yet he was kind enough to bring you to the hospital. It is very hard to find such people these days." Melissa ran her fingers through Alexis's auburn hair and continued, "I'm sorry for what I said about him yesterday. I shouldn't have projected your father's wrongdoings on him."

"And I'm sorry that I got so angry with you."

Melissa was suddenly concerned for her daughter when she remembered what Alexis was about to do in the fit of her anger. "Is your powers triggered by your anger?"

"Er… I think it is. But I believe that I can learn to control it. No, I will learn to control it." Alexis said with determination. She had no other choice than learning to control it. She could not go around showing people that she was different.

Melissa would have been happy if Alexis had not discovered her powers at all. But it was now too late to wish for that. She wanted her daughter to be cautious and avoid flying around like she did a few days ago.

"Alexis, whatever you do, try not to get attention like you did last time. If the government finds out that you have superhuman abilities, you could get into serious trouble. You understand what I'm saying, right?"

Alexis didn't want to tell her mother that she had almost died and she was not in control of her own body when she flew for the first time. Melissa already had fair share of her own problems. So she just nodded and assured her mom, "I promise I will be more careful."

Melissa looked at her watch. It was already 10 AM. Melissa got up from the chair and said, "Alright! I'll prepare some breakfast for us." She then pointed at the wall and said in a sarcastic tone, "And I don't want to see more holes on the walls."

Alexis laughed and scratched her head. "I'll be careful."

Melissa went out of the room. Alexis exhaled a sigh of relief now that the bad blood between her mother and her was cleared. Then she thought of going through the notes of other subjects and grabbed her cell phone. But she ended up opening her Soulmate app.

"It is 10 at night in Celine; Vorian must be free right now. Let's talk to him then." Alexis murmured to herself and she sent a project request to Vorian.

Vorian was waiting for Alexis to contact him so he could ask in detail what she was talking about yesterday. He had this tingling sensation in his stomach from not knowing what Alexis meant by she had a hole in her wall.

Vorian accepted the project request and Alexis was in his room. He greeted her with a very warm smile, "Hey babe! How are you?"

Alexis was spellbound by his deep voice. She lovingly looked at the man for whom she had fought with her mother. She reflected on how she had been so attached with him already, "It has just been few days and I'm already fighting for this man. Some charisma huh!"

Alexis snapped out of her thought and replied to Vorian, "I'm good… Actually I'm feeling much better now."

Vorian went closer to Alexis and leaned down towards her to examine her closely. After rolling his gaze around Alexis, he finally let out a sigh of relief. "I'm glad to hear that."

He then crossed his arms and confronted Alexis for making him feel uncomfortable. "What have you done to me, Alexis? If I don't talk to you for a day, I feel pain in places I never thought would hurt before."

Alexis could not control her laughter when she heard Vorian say that. She burst into laughter and Vorian kept on gazing his beautiful girlfriend in awe.

"I'm sorry babe! I had anger out burst on my mother. And I didn't want you to see that side of me."

Alexis sat down on the floor and so did Vorian. Then she explained in detail what happened between her and her mother. She also explained how she was able to control her fire and how she blasted her own wall. She also told him about her father.

Vorian was puzzled to learn that her father was also a Celinian. "So, your father is also a Celinian huh! I can understand your mother's outrage. But that just countered my theory about how you got your abilities."

Alexis smiled when she saw the puzzled look on Vorian's face. He didn't like to be wrong. "My mother's friend said that I have a rare case of genetic mutation."

"That is a plausible theory." Vorian looked at Alexis with curiosity, "Show me how you created the fire ball. I want to see your awesomeness with my own eyes."
