We're pulling through the gates—large, black steel monstrocities that look like they belong more on a prison than a house. As does the ten foot brick fence with razor wire at the top. But most of that's hidden from the house.
Kelly's eyes widen at the sight of the gate and I squeeze her hand. "It's just to help keep things secure, don't worry. It's a gorgeous house."
She nods, but I can see her mind ticking back to the threat, and the bomb, and everything else. Fear flashes in her eyes and I want to bite something.
It must show on my face because she glances at me, then frowns. "What's wrong?"
I shake my head as we pass through the gates and they begin to close behind us. "I just wish I hadn't gotten you and Little Tom into this. I wish I'd thought things through better. I didn't think..."
