Embracing Change

The house was quiet now, the last of the kids finally asleep downstairs after the second movie. The living room was filled with the soft sounds of their snores, and I couldn't help but smile as I took in the peaceful scene. Ethan, still dressed in his Spider-Man costume, was curled up, a soft smile on his face even in sleep.

I glanced at Shayla, who looked equally relieved that the chaos had finally settled. With a silent exchange, we slipped away from the living room, making our way upstairs. I followed her into her old bedroom, stepping into a place that felt frozen in time—soft pastel colors, a well-loved bookshelf, and childhood memories everywhere. I couldn't help but chuckle as I looked around. 

"So, this is where it all started, huh?" She laughed lightly, sitting down on the edge of the bed and brushing her fingers across the fabric of the old quilt.
