Diane's POV
Someone knocked on my door, and I ran to open it, eager to see who was visiting. But as soon as I opened the door, my mood soured. The visitor was Alicia, smiling as she handed me a piece of paper.
"Take it. This is an invitation to my engagement with Hector." Alicia practically forced me to take the invitation from her hand. I froze for a moment, feeling a tightness in my chest at receiving an invitation I didn't want to attend.
"You must be jealous of me for winning Hector's heart. Isn't this big news, and painful for you, Diane?" Alicia's words were always the same—hurtful. Even though I had heard them many times before, they still managed to irritate me.
I was sure Alicia wouldn't stop talking. And just as I was about to respond, she continued.
