Rendered flustered by Emery's response, Dr. Lucia glanced at her son who was slowly walking towards them. However, she quickly shifted her attention back to Emery who seemed to be greatly affected by something.
"Why are you saying that, Emery?" She asked; concerned and anxious at the same time. When she briefly glanced at Marcus again, she noticed that he was feeling the same.
Just like the time she started asking her questions, there was no response from Emery and though Lucia Pierre truly wished to know, she was scared that it would be too much for Emery if she pressure her.
When she noticed that her son was now just three or four steps away, Dr. Lucia rose from her seat and walked to him.
"Marcus, even if it's hard, we still need to be careful," she said to her son while standing in his way. "If not, Emery might be in pain again."
She might be in pain again?
Standing still in his place, Marcus Pierre slowly shifted his gaze to his mother. "Then what should we do?" He asked, sounding more desperate than ever!
No matter what, he didn't want to see her suffer like that again!
"We need to be patient like we did until now," Lucia Pierre told her son. "Later, son. Pushing her will only hurt Emery even more." She looked at Emery who was sitting still as if she was a statue and added, "She needs to be willing to open up to us. I can tell that she's scared of something but... I don't know what it is."
When Dr. Lucia turned back to her son, she briefly held his hand to reassure him. Then she walked out of her office.
Even after a minute since his mother left, Marcus Pierre was rooted in his place. Nevertheless, he never took his eyes off his fiancee who was sitting still on the couch.
For an overachiever like Marcus Pierre, the feeling of helplessness was so foreign that it was enough to suffocate him! He never knew that he was capable of caring for his fiancee this much until today!
While he was standing there, unable to do anything, Emery got a grip of herself and turned in his direction.
"It's the first day," she said. "I think we should still attend class."
He couldn't believe that she could say such a thing in this situation. For the first time, he thought that it might be better if she was still that spoiled brat who never give a damn about him.
If that were the case, would it be easier for him? He won't have to feel bad even if her condition wasn't good. However, it wasn't the case. She had changed so much.
"It's okay to skip a day," he responded in a calm voice. Though he felt the urge to move closer, his legs were still rooted in his place as he wasn't sure of what would be the best. "Let's just rest today, Emery. We can start tomorrow." He briefly narrowed his eyes and looked at Emery again when he said, "I bet Jason will be here soon."
"He's coming?"
He nodded, feeling a bit guilty. "I think he should know about it but he was all over the place when I called him. He insisted to come though I said that you're feeling better."
Emery wasn't in her normal mind when Marcus said that he will be informing Jason and now that she recalled it with a bit clearer mind, she let out a sigh and covered her eyes.
Her brother will be so worried!
Just as Marcus said, Jason arrived just a few minutes later, and the moment the Vice-Chairman stepped inside Dr. Lucia's office, concern and anxiety were more than evident on his face! His gaze swept around the spacious office and when his gaze landed on Emery, he rushed over to her.
In no time, Jason Hayes was sitting next to his sister and he was glancing at her worriedly.
"Emery... "
"I'm fine now, Jason," Emery Hayes said before her brother could utter any more words. "With my amnesia, you know that this kind of pain is supposed to be regular."
Observing his sister, the powerful Vice-Chairman appeared so helpless!
"Are you really fine now?" He asked. As he talked, his gaze briefly swept Marcus Pierre who was giving him an assuring nod.
Emery gently nodded. "Even last time, you know that it didn't last long. I won't lie to you."
Jason Hayes recalled the memory that could still make his heart boil. However, he knew that Emery was right when she said that it didn't last long. This calmed him down in the slightest bit.
"You are busy," Emery said to her brother after she observed his expression for a while. "You should return to work. Marcus is here for me."
"I will take care of her," Marcus promptly said, hoping to give some relief to his fiancee. "You can trust in me."
Emery noticed the resistance in her brother's eyes but slowly, he seemed to be easing down.
"Alright," Jason Hayes finally said with a nod. "Don't go to the university today. I think you need rest."
"About Dad... " Emery cautiously started but her voice trailed off. Nevertheless, her brother understood what she was trying to say.
"Don't worry about Dad. I will talk to him and calm him down." He held his sister's hands for a while and then rose from his seat. "I will go and talk to Dr. Lucia before I leave," he told Emery and then looked at Marcus. "I will trust you with her then."
Marcus Pierre nodded and Jason Hayes briefly glanced at his sister once again before he left the doctor's office.
Emery quietly glanced at the empty door before she looked at her fiance who was still standing three or four steps away. "What are we going to do then?" She asked, forcing a little smile.
Marcus Pierre saw through the fake smile but putting his mother's words in mind, he didn't say anything about it. "You still haven't come to my house after the accident, right? How about hanging out there for today? I'm sure that there will be a good place for you to rest while having fun at the same time."
