Chapter 47:

In situations like this, Nero always had to remind himself to remain calm, if he moved on impulse, he could end up very badly affected.

All his efforts would be for naught and he'd be set back decades. After taking a deep breath, Nero once again resumed his thoughts with a more logical and deep thoughted approach.

The person who went against him this time was an very old partner of his. The man who had led breakthroughs in the fields of chakra absorption and conversion, to chakra based weaponry used in Inferno to date.

The man's name was Daisuke Tanaka(leading researcher on dark chakra). Nero had worked together with him since the fall of Soragakure, he was a cold man, a scientist first and foremost and one of Nero's best assets.

Nero could not think of any particular reason why Daisuke would go against him, Nero essentially provided him with the best of what he could ever want. Money, experimental subjects and raw materials. Nero even prolonged his life, that was how indispensable Daisuke was to Nero.

Which led to an important question on why the abrupt betrayal? It wasn't because of revenge. Daisuke wasn't interested in the politics of being a leader. He would much rather study and dissect every new discovery that piqued his interest. Nero's Inferno was also the most advanced haven for research for him.

This was very confusing, there didn't seem to be any motive for him to do this. The only verdict from here on was that Nero was missing something, a final piece of this puzzle that would make all of this make sense.

Nero used cybermind to tap into a camera of the facility. Usually connections over long ranges had a few seconds static before the connection got through. But this time the static lasted for more than half a minute.

With every second that passed Nero's heart sank further and further. He figured his most useful skill, cybermind seemed to have been interfered with.

The thought sent shivers through his spine. Cybermind was his biggest secret. It could crack any digital protection installed in any facility in this world. So when he saw static he realized that someone had found a way to counter it. That meant someone had to have known about the skill to counter it or create a firewall more advanced than his skill.

Such a thought made Nero feel a series of emotions and non of them were pleasant. Nero felt venerable for the first time in years. He rushed to try and connect with the nanites housed in Daisuke's body, But there was no response, he couldn't even feel them anymore!

Nero sent a drone towards the facility and started viewing the live images sent back to him. The entire place was silent and on the outside it seemed abandoned.

With a volley of shocking discoveries after another, Nero felt that this was more serious than he initially anticipated. He had to deal with whatever was happening himself! But he couldn't risk blindly entering the facility since it could be a trap. Luckily his plans for Kiri were already near completion, nobody could stop them at this point. He could focus on dealing with Daisuke.

An attack that didn't directly involve him would be preferable. A long range attack with the aim of decimating the entire facility in one hit. Right then and there the decision was taken.

Nero mentally ordered a group ballistic missiles to be ready to blow up the facility. It was in the middle of nowhere and the only casualties would be the workers. Nero couldn't worry about them though his gut told him to eradicate this problem with extreme measures. It also wasn't due to any bloodlust, it was simply the most effective method at the moment.

Having taken a decision. Nero sent the order. After a few minutes, a confirmed hit on the facility was sent to Nero. Nobody else was informed and to their knowledge, the facility was still up and running.

A drone sent visual images of the destruction. Under the huge cloud of smoke, dust and dirt showing complete and utter destruction, Nero couldn't be happy. He had expected a larger yield from the dark chakra cubes contained from the facility. He everything seemed less than expected, the crater created by the attack should've been bigger than the one currently being showed. This made Nero even more unhinged.

He could feel something was boiling. A skin prickling sickly type of emotion that made his heart tighten.

Nero knew this feeling well, he had grown close to it and even after death and rebirth it stayed. It was anticipation and a tinge if fear.

With so many unknowns and a potential enemy to stand against in this war. He had no idea from where he could expect an attack. He also had idea of what Daisuke was planning. But he was still excited nonetheless! An unknown like meant he would get to battle something totally different from basically anything in the anime.

'Could he have built a weapon that made him confident it dethroning me?' Nero's thought.

He stood up from his chair and looked outside, everyone was already resting since tomorrow was supposed to be a big day. Nero also stepped back into his tent and sealed it shut.

He went to his bed and laid comfortably. His breath became stadier and his dark vision turned into a lime colored HUD. In his vision was various equipment. A huge building full of humanoid and flying drones that went about their tasks. Lines of huge tubes could be seen everywhere and inside was bodies strapped to a breathing apparatus and various monitors.

The bodies were a little skinny and were flaoting while in a fetal position similar to a baby. All of them varied in age, the oldest looking to be in it's mid teens and the youngest looked to be in it's pre-teens.

The whole place was organized and efficient. Besides the bodies kept here the entire place was otherwise devoid of human life. The other living creature in the facility was housed inside a lewthery caccoon and eminated a particular vibe that would put cause anyone within a certaim range to be mentally affected.

This was his secret lab that housed his fail safe plan and a bunch of other projects that he held off due to their low feasability at the moment, Nero felt relieved kmowing he could still digitize and incarnate his mind within the bodies of one of these subjects.
