CHAPTER THIRTEEN

Mordak

"Arrghh!" The headache rings through my temples, and I bend over in pain.

Just as fast as the attack comes about, it's gone. Standing, I stride across the cave. My creatures don't even notice me passing. Half brainless, they sit around in circles, staring off into space.

Unless they're eating, sleeping, or doing my bidding, they're not much more than action figures. Which is exactly how I like it.

Pulling the blanket off my crystal ball, I take a seat in front of it. Something has happened to one of my creatures. The link connecting us has been severed.

My heart racing, I close my eyes and focus on my connection with all of my creations. Many of them are here in the cave with me, but a handful are out patrolling the mountain, keeping anyone who might be curious away.

Wolves. Bears. Some of the Hawthorn students. Those are the ones who are dispensable and won't draw too much attention. The trolls and other powerful creatures I keep close.
