"I am done, my king," Cecile said after attending to Lillie. "She should wake up by morning."
"Hm." Alex simply hummed. "Get some clothes to change into, when she wakes up, I will take her with me."
"Yes, my king, right away," Cecile said and started walking for the door. "My king, would you like to eat anything? I will bring food for her as well," she asked knowing that he also has not eaten.
"Bring whatever you have," Alex said and she nodded. He was not a picky eater, as long as the food was edible he would eat it she just asked to know if he had any preference this time.
After Cecile left, Dr. James came in to check on Lillie. And just like before, Alex stood by the side and watched everything that he was doing.
Seeing how protective Alex was towards the girl, the doctor, and nurse tried to figure out who she was to him to have gotten him so worried for her. She looks like a teenager so she possibly couldn't be his daughter and was a little too young to be considered his lover. So who was she?
None of them was daring enough to voice out their question and quench the flames of curiosity. With time everything will reveal itself.
Soon the doctor left the room along with the nurse in his tow. Alex sat next to her at the edge of the bed and cupped a handful of her soft, silky hair in his large palm, and sniffed her scent. The scent of newly bloomed lilies hit his nostrils, it was mild, natural, and irresistible. He could feel tense nerves relaxing with a sniff of her scent. He was entranced by her scent.
While he was still drowned in the scent of his mate, the door swung open and revealed Raal and Kevin behind it. They felt like turning around and walking away after seeing their alpha's seemingly bewitched state. They felt they have seen something they were not meant to see and turned around to leave.
"What took you so long?" they heard Alex's voice from inside ask and paused in their movements.
They opened the door completely and came in. They could see that he was looking at them as his eyes were still on his mate like she was his only known existence.
They did not make any attempt to answer his question as they put the bags that contained his cliches and toiletry on the table and turned around to leave. They felt weird seeing the king like that, this sight of him was something that they have never imagined before.
"You will stay here with her while I go in and freshen up," Alex said when he felt them leaving the room. Left with no choice, Raal and Kevin returned and sat down on the couch facing Lillie's bed.
"How long do you think it will take before he marks her? I am sure it won't be long, maybe on their very first night together." Kevin said with a mischievous grin and winked at Raal.
"That shouldn't concern you and me, it is something between the two of them." Real blankly stated.
"Of course it does, she will be our Luna, won't she?" Kevin said refusing to surrender.
"Yes, she will be our Luna and queen but that doesn't give us the right to get involved with the alpha and Luna's intimate moments." Real stated.
Before Kevin could think of the right words to reply to Raal with, the door opened and Cecile came into the room with two plastic bags I'm her hands. Dropping the bags on the table, she joined them on the couch and sat facing them.
"How long have you known about the alpha's human mate?" Kevin asked Cecile as soon as she was seated.
Cecile raised a brow at him and then turned to look at Raal whose eyes told her that he had the same question as Kevin, but instead of answering she asked Kevin, "Why do you ask?"
"It's quite obvious that you are not surprised to see that the alpha's mate is a human. With your powers, the possibility that you might have seen it already before now is quite high." Kevin said, stating his point.
Cecile smiled at them and said, "Yes, I have seen her but that was a long time ago." she said and they looked at her with frowns on their faces silently asking her to continue.
"I knew about her even before she was born." Cecile was broadened and the listeners were not at all surprised.
"Why didn't you tell Alex about it if you knew all that while?" Real asked. He was a little mad at her. Why did she tell him? She, just like he and Kevin knew that Alex has been looking for his mate.
"I did tell him. But we did not know when she will be born and also her parents could not be traced after I saw them the first time so we let fate do its job." Cecile said.
While they were still talking, they heard Lillie make a sobbing sound and rushed to her standing beside her bed.
When they got to her, there were tears on her cheeks, she was crying I'm her sleep. Understanding the cause of her tears, Cecile say beside her on the bed and held onto her hands and leaned forward, and whispered into her ears. "It's okay child, you are safe now. No one will hurt you anymore."
Hearing the comforting words of a mother so close to her ears, Lillie tried to open her eyes and see who it was. Was it the woman that she is thinking of? Was it her aunt Evie? She asked herself. She wanted to open her eyes and see her, to see her beautiful blue eyes and warm smile so that everything that she thought happened was just a bad dream that she had while sleeping. A dream that she has finally woken up from.
She tried to open her eyes but she could not. Her eyes were too heavy for her to lift an eyelid.
She found herself in a dark tunnel with a small open at the distance as the only source of light. She started running towards it but seems too far away and out of reach. She felt like she had been running forever to get to the light and finally see her aunt again. Her mother.
"Aunt Evie?" she called weakly as tears streamed down her eyes. She did not want to believe that her aunt was gone, she was still holding on to a thin layer of hope that the voice that she was heading was that of her aunt. She didn't know what she would do if she was not there. Lillie wanted to fall into her arms for comfort to hear that everything was fine and that they still had each other in this world.
Cecile who was holding unto Lillie's hand felt her pain and fear and squeezed her hand a little. Then she heard the name, Aunt Evie, she understood that the girl must have lost someone close to her heart. Cecile turned to Raal and Kevin and asked them to leave. " It wouldn't be nice if she woke up and sees so many unfamiliar faces," she said to them and they nodded before leaving the room.
Lillie finally opened her and found a lair of beautiful brown eyes staring at her with warmth. Those eyes comforted her but they were not the ocean-blue eyes that she wanted to see. Her heart sank and tears pooled on her face unable to hold back any longer.
