>Chapter 37<
Caedis walked through the door and greeted the class with a small smile on his face.
"Hello there students, my name is Victor Caedis, though, you will call me Instructor Caedis." As he took in the surprised faces of the five humans with satisfaction, he continued. "Let us move to a more appropriate location for this class."
With that last line, the class followed behind Instructor Caedis as he walked through the school all the way into the forest. But, some of the students couldn't take it anymore and just had to ask.
"Instructor Caedis, where are we going?" One of the students voiced out.
Caedis just looked at the student with a mysterious smile.
"To the classroom for out lesson, obviously," He answered. "But, I guess that it cannot really be called a classroom."
The boys, of course, knew what he was talking about. He had already introduced them to the three places that are supposed to be used as training grounds in the forest. It seems like Caedis told them that a little bit ahead of time.
Caedis then just continued to avoid the students' questioning gazes as they walked deeper and deeper into the forest.
After a while, the class came upon a clearing in the dense and misty forest that surrounds the academy. There wasn't really anything special about it, just a tree-less spot that was slightly larger than three football fields together, around 255 meter in width and 375 meters in length, is what the boys would describe it as.
They walked until they came into the middle of the training grounds and stopped there.
"Let us get started right away. You must've already heard, or you already know how to control magic. Now, I know some of you might not have used magic yet, but, worry not, you will learn quite quickly, since you were accepted into the academy." Caedis spoke. "Pay attention so you don't miss an important part. First of all, all of you should already be able to sense magic particles in the air, since you have already unlocked your magic element."
The students just nodded at some parts of Caedis's speech.
"Even the most famous of researchers don't know how we can actually control the magic particles. Some say, that we have an imaginary organ that helps us in control, the others say that it is an instinct, imprinted into our mind and bodies alike. But, what we know for sure is that there is some kind of connection between the magic particles and us." He continued explaining. "So, to control the magic particles, you just have to find this connection. There are many types of connections, which represent the elements. One of the elementary particles is the natural particles, also called nature magic particles, but you will learn the details in the magic theory class. Let's continue from where we left off."
He then held up his hand with his palm facing upwards.
"Now, focus on the space above my hand and observe the actions of the nature magic particles." As soon as he finished saying that, the eyes of all the students, except the boys, glowed in their own color.
The students, now including the boys, could see a small swirl of the nature magic particles. It then started changing shapes, similar to the boys' own training.
"What are you waiting for? Follow my example and try to do it too." Caedis arched an eyebrow at the observing gazes of the students.
But you told us to just watch! The whole class wanted to scream, but they knew better that to complain about it, so they could only do the same and held up their hand, palms facing up towards the sky.
Our group of boys, which was the furthest back, did the same as well and tried to find this connection. The boys thought that it would be easy, since they had already done this for the last week… but they couldn't be more wrong. The boys were not expecting such strong resistance from the natural magic particles.
Why was it so hard?
As if answering their question, Caedis spoke up.
"The connection with these particles is much weaker than the connection with your element. It makes sense, because the elements basically chose you when the connection was made, if you don't have an element, it means that you do not have enough mental soul power to withstand its strength." He took a small pause and looked at the class. "Consider an element as someone close to you, maybe your mother, father, brother or sister, maybe even a lover, whatever you associate it as, it will always be your partner for life. That's how the connection was formed in the first place. Then you can take the natural magic particles. They are something akin to a stranger across the street. You don't know them and they don't know you. Right now, you are trying to establish a connection with that stranger, to create a sort of relationship."
The boys were still listening to Caedis explaining and were somewhat confused, so Jacob raised his hand to ask the question that was bugging them at the moment.
Caedis paused his explaining and looked at Jacob, then nodded.
"Instructor Caedis, how was it possible for us to use the nature magic particles at that time so quickly, when we can barely even make a shape today?"
"Ah, a very good question," Caedis's lips twitched a few times as he struggled to hold himself from laughing. He, of course, knew what they meant when Jacob said 'at that time'. "Right then, you had just made a connection with your elements. Meaning that an imaginary tunnel was created, which helped you to connect with your element. A lot of nature particles are needed for an element awakening. They are used to consolidate your connection, which takes a week or two at most. With the influx of particles the awakening brought along with itself, your aptitude with natural particles was heightened for a few days after. It works like that for everyone, so they can increase their affinity with the nature particles for shaping their elemental magic particles"
After hearing Caedis's explanation, a lot of students were confused about their conversation. Even more confusion followed when they noticed the human boys sweating and slightly trembling.
The boys were silently stunned. They were really lucky on so many occasions. If they hadn't awakened their magic element, they would already be dead. Now he's telling them that they wouldn't even be able to shape an attack.
"Looks like your affinities with nature particles have already started decreasing. Well, it was about time after all." He continued. "Your time should've been around 50 seconds right?"
The boys nodded in affirmation.
"Then I should have reset back to one minute, try to shape a sword, like we practiced." He then took out watch from his breast pocket and pressed the little button on it, indicating he started the time.
The boys then started shaping while the whole class just watched, including Frederick, who quietly observed everything from the corner of his eyes.
