Transformation

Watching Matthew writhe on the ground ignited the spark of fear within Sophia.

Something was wrong.

His muscles were bulging, and the veins in his arms bubbled like molten hot lava. Sweat glistened over his skin, and the disturbing sound of bones cracking and rebuilding filled her ears.

A transformation?

But… Matthew's wolf came out long ago… This made no sense. A warning bell tolled inside her head: danger.

There was even a bone-deep instinct telling her to get away from here, but she stood rooted to the spot, paralyzed by her mate changing into something grotesque. The moonlight illuminated his body, and Sophia gasped as midnight-colored fur sprouted out from his pores.

Matthew seemed to be in pain. A loud, tormented scream left his lips, and the others stepped away from him.
