After the eventful night at the warehouse, the crime scene was bustling with activity. Paramedics, CSI teams, and officers swarmed the area, launching their investigation into the violent encounter. Among them was Peter, donning his Spider-Man suit, scaling the walls of the warehouse with a mix of curiosity and concern.
As he climbed around the exterior, his keen senses guided him to an opened door vent. Peter's mind raced with questions, pondering the identity of this mysterious vigilante. Intrigued, he followed the vent pipe, dropping down through another opened vent door. There, he discovered a lifeless body with a snapped neck, a grim reminder of the intruder's ruthlessness.
Continuing his search, Peter stumbled upon a peculiar sight. He found a strange white substance adhered to the floor, next to an unconscious criminal who had been apprehended not long ago. His fingers gently brushed against the substance, its stickiness distinct. Through the modified lens of his suit, Peter analyzed the substance, realizing that it closely resembled his webbing, but with a superior quality and different composition.
"A web? But different…"
While lost in his thoughts, Peter was interrupted by the arrival of Detective Terryl Harper, an African-American officer. The detective introduced himself and immediately sought Peter's assistance in solving the case.
"Hey, I'm Detective Terryl Harper. You must be Spider-Man," the detective said, extending his hand.
Peter shook the detective's hand and replied, "Yeah, that's me. What can I do for you, Detective?"
Detective Harper's eyes were focused, his voice serious. "We found some evidence here that suggests there's another vigilante involved. Are you aware of anyone using web-shooters and guns?"
Peter's eyebrows furrowed in surprise. "Web-shooters and guns? That's interesting. I haven't come across anyone using that combination before. I mean, I've encountered individuals with similar abilities, but they weren't using firearms."
Peter's worry grew, his mind racing with possibilities. "If there's someone out there using weapons and a modified version of my webbing, it could be dangerous. I need to find out more and put a stop to it."
Detective Harper's gaze met Peter's, his voice steady. "That's why I'm here, Spider-Man. We need your help to unravel this new vigilante. Discover his purpose that led to the sea of bodies today."
Spider-Man accepted and appreciated Detective Harper's offer and expressed his desire to stay a little longer in order to gather more clues. Detective Harper agreed, emphasizing the importance of sharing any findings with him.
Climbing along the walls and carefully examining the scene, Spider-Man searched for any trace that could shed light on the identity of the masked vigilante. He scrutinized the shattered lights, the collapsed shelf, and the remnants of the encounter, but the evidence was scarce.
Realizing that the witnesses might hold valuable information, Spider-Man turned to Detective Harper and suggested interrogating the remaining thugs. Harper nodded and said, "They're all yours, Spider-Man. I'll stand by and observe."
Approaching one of the criminals who had directly encountered the masked vigilante, Spider-Man noticed the man's immediate panic and fear upon locking eyes with him. The criminal trembled and pleaded ignorance, claiming that he only followed orders from his superiors.
Baffled by the man's extreme reaction, Spider-Man questioned him, "Why are you so afraid of me? I haven't done anything to you personally."
With a shaky voice, the criminal managed to utter, "The one who infiltrated us... it was you, but not in your usual blue and red suit. This one was entirely black."
Suddenly, a flood of memories rushed through Peter's mind. The figure he had encountered during the previous incident, the one who knew his identity and called him by name instead of "Spider-Man." There weren't many people who fit that description, but one name stood out: Leo Vargas.
Peter's thoughts raced, but he reminded himself not to jump to conclusions. It was still too early to determine if Leo was indeed the masked vigilante responsible for the recent events. He needed concrete evidence before making any accusations.
Suppressing his rising suspicions, Spider-Man thanked the criminal for the information and left him in the custody of the police. He rejoined Detective Harper, a mix of determination and uncertainty etched on his face.
"I think I might have a lead, Detective" Spider-Man said cautiously. "But it's important not to jump to conclusions. We need more evidence to confirm it."
Detective Harper nodded understandingly. "I see, Spider-Man. Then let's continue our investigation and gather more information. We'll find out the truth together."
"Yes, Detective. But I think that's all we can get from this warehouse." Peter said, glimpsed across the warehouse.
"Too bad we can't have our raid finish on our term, see you next time, Detective!" Peter added sarcastically before saluting to the detective, leaped and perched on the lamp post, ready to depart.
In quick response, "Thank you Spider-Man!" Detective Harper replied.
The moment Peter about to depart, his eyes widened when he spotted a familiar face pushing her way through the crowd. It was none other than Mary Jane Watson, the fiery-haired reporter he had once been in a relationship with. Their breakup had left them estranged, and Peter never expected to see her again.
Spider-Man couldn't resist the urge to reach out to MJ. He dropped from the lamp post and waved, calling out her name. Startled, MJ turned her gaze towards him, a mixture of excitement and awkwardness evident in her expression.
Before the awkwardness could consume them, Peter quickly broke the ice. "How are you, MJ?" he asked, hoping to ease the tension.
MJ, slightly taken aback, managed a small smile and replied, "I'm doing fine, Pet-, Spider-Man."
Curiosity filled Peter's eyes as he inquired, "What brings you here, MJ?"
MJ adjusted her stance and explained, "Well, I've been chasing leads on the new masked vigilante that's been making headlines. I heard about the recent incident at the convenience store, and there have been rumors of a dark Spider-Man swinging through this area. So, I thought I'd investigate and see if there's a story worth pursuing."
Peter listened attentively, conflicted by the mix of emotions stirred up by MJ's presence. He understood her desire to chase a story, but he also knew the risks involved. He chose his words carefully, saying, "Be careful, MJ. The situation here is dangerous. You don't want to get caught up in something you can't handle."
MJ's eyes softened, and she nodded appreciatively. "I know, Pet-, Spider-Man. But I've always been drawn to stories that uncover the truth. And this masked vigilante... there's something intriguing about him. I want to know his motives, his methods."
Peter couldn't help but admire MJ's determination and passion for her work. He understood that her pursuit of the truth was an integral part of who she was. However, he also felt a pang of worry for her safety.
"Just promise me you'll stay safe," Peter pleaded. "If you come across anything that seems too dangerous, don't hesitate to back off. I don't want you getting hurt."
MJ placed a hand on Peter's arm, a gesture of reassurance. "I promise, Spider-Man. I'll be on my lookout. But I also know I can handle myself. You taught me that."
Peter reluctantly accepted MJ's desire to be involved in the investigation and nodded in resignation. "Okay, MJ," he said with a shrug. "Just be careful out there."
MJ gave Peter a determined look and replied, "I will, Spider-Man."
A moment of pause of awkwardness, "I need to go and interview the victims before it's too late. I'll see you when I see you." said MJ.
"Yeah… See ya-" Peter was cut off as MJ turned and paced away, leaving Peter in his Spider-Man suit, standing there, lost in his stance. He couldn't help but feel a mix of emotions: concern for MJ's safety, lingering feelings from their past relationship, and a sense of uncertainty about the future.
As Peter stood there, Detective Harper approached, whistling a tune. He looked at Peter and couldn't help but notice the turmoil in his expression. "Girlfriend troubles?" Harper asked, a hint of amusement in his voice.
Peter sighed and replied, "It's… complicated."
Harper nodded knowingly. "Relationships can be tough sometimes. But remember, sometimes the people we care about surprise us in the most unexpected ways."
"Thanks, Detective Harper," Peter said, gratitude lacing his voice. "I'll keep that in mind."
Harper clapped Peter on the shoulder, a supportive gesture. "No problem, Spider-Man. Now let's focus on the task at hand. We have a masked vigilante to catch."
