Late at night after drinking and celebrating their victory the knights of the black dragons and the red knights of the sun were sleeping soundlessly, all for one.
Poseidon lie on a path of grass, staring up at the everlasting sky, filled with stars for as wide as he could see.
" Deep thoughts?" Poseidon looked over towards the voice to see Gawain stumbling over towards him.
" You could say that, yeah." Poseidon replied.
Gawain, still tipsy, plopped down on the patch of grass right beside Poseidon and sighed.
" What's on your mind boss?" Gawain asked. Though their relationship was rocky in that they beat each other up and yelled at each other a lot, mostly because Gawain played like an idiot, they still cared about each other deeply.
" I've just been thinking about someone. Someone I haven't seen in a long time. I guess I've just been missing her. And then all this with Morgan..." Poseidon sighed heavily and leaned back down.
" Sounds rough. I can't begin to imagine it. Literally. I mean what you are is... You're different from what we are so I fundamentally can't understand it. But if you miss her so much, why don't you go see her? I mean it shouldn't be impossible right?" Gawain asked.
" You don't get it Gawain. Things aren't that simple. My love life has been a wreck. My first wife killed along with my son, my second wife leaves me, yeah, I understood, but it doesn't mean it doesn't hurt. And now, just as I was ready to try at an actual relationship again, she stabs me in the back... Literally. I'm beginning to think that with all my power, and all that I've done for the people... I'm starting to think I'm just destined to be alone." Poseidon explained.
" Hey, boss. Don't think like that man... I'm sure there's someone out there for you. I mean you just haven't tried. I mean, hey aren't there other gods out there? Why don't you go asking one of them out?" Gawain asked.
" If only it were that simple. Most of the other gods in this universe are so conceited and selfish, that they believe themselves to be above all others. I've met a handful of them and almost all of them are the same." Poseidon explained.
" You said almost. Does that mean there are some you've considered?" Gawain wondered.
" Well, there was a few. Amaterasu, Isis, Pele. He! At one time I even harbored somewhat of a crush on the Asgardian goddess of death, Hela. Her ferocity and grace in battle was something to behold. But I don't think I've ever really cared for any of them like I have my wives." Poseidon explained.
" Well, sometimes you just gotta take a chance. Man, if I've learned anything from is that life is too short to wait around for someone to come along. That's why I started pursuing Chelsea. She was fiery, she wouldn't back down when I spoke to her, she'd even threaten me from time to time. Oh, seriously don't tell her I was flirting with another woman earlier. Even if we aren't actually dating right now, I don't want to think about what's going to happen if she knew." Gawain spoke.
" Don't worry. I won't tell her.... You will." Poseidon replied.
" What? Why me?" Gawain asked.
" Because you always be honest with your woman. She'll appreciate you being truthful with her even if she is upset, you'll at least be fair to her. Whether or not she decides to forgive your small albeit crucial transgression, then that's up to her." Poseidon explained.
" Wait? How can it be small but crucial?" Gawain asked.
" Because harmless flirting is no big deal. But when you're courting a young woman, it is a very big deal." Poseidon replied.
Gawain shuddered and sighed.
" Yeah, I guess you're right. Ba hey hey hey! Don't turn this back on me. Look just do what you think is right, boss. If you miss this lady, then go see her. If we all live to see the end of this anyway." Gawain spoke.
" I think I'll do that. At least try anyway. But for now, you are right. We have to stop Morgan. But before that we have to help Lancelot and Dagonet." Poseidon spoke.
" Yeah.... You think he's doing alright? Lancelot?" Gawain asked.
" I don't know. They are both strong. But... Morgan is crafty. She's smart. And she doesn't know how to give up. She can be quite deadly with her tactics. Just look around. You've seen it yourself. I can only hope the two of them are fine and alright." Poseidon spoke.
To the North
" Dagonet... Why?" Lancelot was bleeding heavily from his arm. A small trace of darkness flowing up the side of it.
" Because... We need to face the facts. Arthur is dying. He's barely leading the kingdom anymore. It's Queen Guinevere that's done most of the leg work. While we the knights, are left behind to care for such menial tasks. I mean we should be honored; we should have riches; we should be the ones ruling. Not her. Once Arthur's gone, she's going to take over and then what? She disliked the Knights Of The Round Table from the very moment we were formed. How many kingdoms could we have taken over if she would just allow us to do our jobs and attack? But no, instead she uses her position as Arthur's wife and forces us to sit things out, while delegates talk about... Peace! She will slowly but surely begin to phase us out of existence. And I can't take that chance." Dagonet explained.
" That is such a lie, I find it hard to believe that you really believe it yourself. Lady Guinevere has always taken our sides. Sure, she chooses not to send us out, but that's because she wants to protect the peace through peaceful and virtuous means. We have always been meant as a last resort for war. Never are we to be dispatched without proper consideration... You know that." Lancelot replied.
" When's the last time we were sent out? It's been years! I am a warrior Lancelot. Not a glorified errand boy. And I won't sit back any longer. If it means selling my soul to that witch Morgan... So be it." Dagonet explained.
" I see I have misjudged you. You are either blind or more foolish than I thought." Lancelot spoke.
" Only those with power get to decide such things. And right now, it looks like I'm the one with the power." Dagonet stated.
" If you can see the world in such simple ways... Perhaps you are blind." Lancelot replied.
" Does it matter anymore? You've sent your knights away. My men are with me, and you are outnumbered. You have nowhere to go. Join us or die. Those are your two options." Dagonet spoke.
" Forgive me, if I chose neither Dagonet. I'm not out of cards just yet. Let me tell you something, Dagonet. I have been working hard all my life... Not just to be a knight or to train. Or even to help people. I have been working hard all my life... To keep up an image. An image of the perfect man. Someone everyone can count on. Someone who helps anyone and everyone no matter what their circumstances. Someone for everyone to look up to. To keep the beast caged." Lancelot explained.
Suddenly his body began to ooze a dark mist and his eyes turned red. He let out a vicious almost feral like growl and then glared at Dagonet.
" GRRRRRRRRRRR!"
