Chapter 49

***

We arrived in Dauphin Cove somewhere around dinner time.

Things looked different, but not much. A tree in the front yard was bigger. The driveway had been repaved. Everything had been well maintained. As I approached the front door, I smelled Margaux’s cooking.

“I always cook for a family,” she said. “Even if it’s just me. We haven’t had any guests in the house for a while. I’m not quite as good at recruiting them as your grand-père, and the dolphins who are on staff are all young, and they want to stay at the hotel. It’s so much closer to everything.”

“Well, we’ll be here for a few days, if that’s okay with you,” I said.

“It brings me much joy, and you’ve brought a beau,” she said.

“That I have,” I agreed, happy to see the smile on Stefano’s face as I said it.
