"No way am I going to do anything like that." I snorted. Didn't know who these dark mages thought they were, but I wasn't crazy like my real mom. Wasn't going to put myself or anyone else in danger for more power. I had plenty all on my own that I couldn't seem to keep under a leash.

"You owe us for what you did, for taking away our power."

"I don't owe you anything. You killed my mom - my aunt." They might as well have murdered my mom too since they lured her into their evil.

"That was Darren, not us," the tall boy answered.

Magic pulsed with my heart, willing me to lash out, to take my vengeance on them. I crossed my arms. "Yeah, well none of you tried to stop him either." For all I knew, they probably aided him.

"Please," the youngest-looking one in the group said. Her blond bangs hung in her light-brown eyes. "It feels like part of our soul is missing without our magic."
