"Are they done yet?" Abigail asked for the hundredth time. It's been eight hours and there wasn't any sign of Rosa. "They'll be done in a jiffy." Vivian replied. "You've been saying that for the last hundred times!" the little girl yelled.
"Then what do you want me to tell you?!" Vivian shouted back. It's been a crazy night and she still had to deal with these tantrums. "Mummy,... tell me the truth." Abby answered. She was staring at the floor and swinging her legs back and forth in anticipation.
Vivian squatted before her. "You want to know the truth?" She asked. Abby looked into her mother's green eyes and nodded. "The truth is,... I don't know when they'll be done." "Sigh. Okay." the girl replied. She didn't dare look at her mother anymore.
"It's okay pumpkin,... she's a strong girl,... she'll be fine." Vivian said hugging her daughter. She looked at the twin girls seated beside Abigail, they also had their heads facing the white tiles. "Are you both alright?" Both girls looked at her and nodded softly. "Good."
After two extra hours, Rosa finally came out. "How is she?" asked an impatient Mike. Rosa smiled, "She's famished but living." "What happened to her?" Vivian asked. "We found that she consumed a huge amount of nanobots. They've been eating inside her for a while now. She also consumed wine. It made the situation worse. I don't understand how she came back,... she's a very strong kid." "Can we see her?" Abby asked.
"Sorry kid but no. She has to eat then rest. Her intestines absorbed the nanotechnology, so she has to take a special pill before eating anything or else,... this will repeat itself." "Okay." Abby replied. "You guys go freshen up. You can visit her once you come back." Rosa said.
In the ER
"I'm alive." Regina whispered. "You're welcome." she said. "Who are you?" Gina asked. She chuckled, "The only reason you're alive. I told you,... I mustn't die." "Now, get some rest,... our body needs all the energy it can get."
