Skyler turned the sword and raised it under a direct blow to Skyler's neck that he blocked with the ax, both felt the impact only for Skyler to raise his hands again with a smile, but at that moment, Darrell shaking his severed arm, blood flew up to hit Skyler's eyes and render him momentarily blind.

The man took a step back to compose himself, but he wasn't used to being hurt, and the cut on his leg betrayed him, causing his posture to falter, Darrell lashing out with the ax and Skyler with his sword.

The sword cut the ax mage separating his blade from the rest of the weapon. His continuous blow and his sword having its full extension would have cut Darrell's throat, but because it was only half, his blade barely touched the soldier's neck.
