Lowly Ascent

Within a desolate realm, where discarded worlds were stitched together, a rupture tore open, releasing a small child into the fragmented expanse. Above him, the sky revealed three eerie moons, while an ominous black mass loomed ominously in their wake. Disoriented and engulfed by a putrid stench, the child awakened amidst a swamp, its twisted trees groaning under an oppressive haze. In the distance, the echoing caws of crows intensified the sense of foreboding. A haunting figure emerged, laboring behind a cart laden with lifeless bodies. Fear and confusion gripped the child's heart as he began to grapple with the enigma of his own existence. Who was he, and what dire fate led him to this grim landscape? The grinning figure drew closer, exacerbating the boy's terror. Unbeknownst to him, his journey would unveil a profound transformation—an ascent to become the embodiment of fear itself, or perhaps... a beacon of hope amidst the encroaching darkness.

Rising Cult

"Hahaha! Yes, this is it! This is voice!" Cain laughed madly. In the other room, Darla rubbed her eyes as she awoke but it wasn't long before she fell back to sleep.

"This language is fascinating! Almost anyone can learn it easily and fit any communication process. I wouldn't be surprised if even a bug could speak it fluently! Whoever created this language surely had plans of unifying everyone and thing!"

With the common language under his belt, Cain could finally see the minute details within it. The language that had spread through the entire Landfill and even the universe was impressive, only Cain with his knowledge from many places could find the hints.

'I wonder, will I ever be able to meet someone like this? They should no doubt be powerful.'

Suddenly, Cain felt his head itch and understood it as a call. He closed his eyes and entered a wide world filled with colorful bubbles connected to an ever-expanding tissue of black.

"What is it?"

An older man in plaid clothing bowed, "Herald, I have been warned the Bureau has sent spies. There have been two people following me day and night. Should we act?"

"No no, wait for Lokia to return with the information. If the gangs can be taken over we can cover everything up and hide. We can't arouse suspicion. Stop all activities for now."

The man in plaid lifted his head. "I understand Lord Herald, may the limit on us all be broken."

Cain returned to reality.

"Now, what was I doing?"

He picked up a pamphlet he got a few days prior.

"Sisterhood of Yore..."

...

"Hello, hello." A young nun greeted families and scholars alike as they entered the premises of the Sisterhood's nunnery.

During her greetings, a man who looked just like the many scholars passed through and entered the building along with them. He was mysterious in that his face was hard to see.

Using the opportunity of the crowd to slip past everyone, Cain entered the forbidden section of the building.

'Hmm, why the hell is it so dark? Do they still use candles?'

Abruptly, a nun with a lit candle walked down the hall and entered a room, shutting it behind her.

'Well, I have my answer then.' Cain used his soul energy to cover his eyes. In a second, his vision turned blue, and multiple soul auras entered his sight.

'She's alone... let's start with her.' He slipped out a bottle of the dream drug from his sleeve and approached the door.

Making sure the coast was clear, Cain deactivated his soul vision and peered through the keyhole to double-check if everything was fine. But what he saw caused him to back away and bang his head into a table behind him.

He witnessed something on the other side of that door no nun should be doing, even if they believed in no gods, the tenets of the Sisterhood were similar for any religious body and chastity always stayed the same. Yet what Cain saw was the epidemy of lust and desire, even his Dao felt its ripples.

Details didn't need to be said, the nun's moans came with a name Cain could only connect to something he would rather not face.

"Oh...oh....Lord! Lord of Infatuation! Bless me with your power and knowledge! Let me dominate my thoughts by letting it all out! Ah!"

'A God....an evil one at that...' Cain rubbed his head and ran down the hall. Although the nun in the room didn't hear him over her self-produced noise, another would surely notice the disturbance.

However, before he could enter the main hall, a commanding voice rained down like hail across the entire hallway. The pieces were as heavy as boulders, turning to water and constricting Cain in place, tightening around his neck.

"Intruder! Not a step further!"

Cain was distraught and excited to meet such a person.

'A voice user! I found one so soon?! How lucky!'

The voice bore down more force, leaving Cain no choice other than to go down on a knee.

"Who are you?! Explain yourself before you die!"

Cain quickly lied, "I was only curious and hungry for knowledge! I swear! That nun...she's doing something wrong!"

"Oh?!" The voice seemed intrigued and understood what he meant. A second later came a sigh, "Another one....already in a trance. They must be eliminated now before it spreads."

"Spreads?" Cain asked.

The voice replied, "Do you not know the origins of such beings? The Lower Gods I mean?"

"Lower?" He questioned.

"It's been foretold the gods are nothing more than lowly beings before the true God! They are simply false beings sapping God's strength, and God will one day take back what belongs to him and free the world!" The voice calmed down, "But those are just rumors."

"I see..." His eyes shined, and he hungered for more of this prophecy.

'Still so many secrets to uncover.'

The voice softened some more, "Just go. Do not return, this place is tainted for now. Even I may not survive, a new Lower God is troublesome for us all."

'New?' Cain bowed. "I will take my leave."

Even while being removed from the premises, Cain calmly walked out, this left a deep impression on the mysterious person, even though they could not see Cain's face.

Outside, Cain wiped his brow.

"Phew, did she see through me? I used the Dream Core and everything."

With the scare he experienced, he was sure to make sure anything of the sort wouldn't happen in the future. He immediately went home to enter the first step in the Path of the Voice. There was no way he would do anything else, he needed more strength.

...

A large mansion in a forest stood tall, its structure perfectly fine over the millennia it stood.

"Sir, is it time to strike? Are you sure we wish to upset the Bureau over a few prisoners?" A low-ranking cultist came before her leader.

The one she spoke to, a man in regal robes, stood up and slowly turned to her, his eyes burned like two bright stars.

"I have the lineage of a God. Yet I am only an Emperor, one without a country, one without men. I need manpower to carve a country and I must hurt my main opponent while doing so. The Empire of old must rise again, or else as God foretold, we will not survive what is to come! For the Stars!"

"F-For the Stars!" The female cultist responded.
