Elle is a young woman who has always worked hard despite her father's indifference and his new family's disregard. Under a pen name, she poured all her heartache into an exceedingly popular story. Adam is the CEO of MK, a powerful company at the top of its industry. He is a man that can do anything perfectly and is known to be cold and unforgiving. By chance the two cross paths and touch each others hearts in unexpected ways. ~~~ Excerpt: Since it was a cold night the glass had fogged up, but Elle could still make out the muddled view of the city below them. The streetlights glowed dimly and cars could be seen driving back and forth in the busy streets. Elle's delicate fingers reached out to touch the cold glass, drawing a smiley face in the condensation. "Are you upset we couldn't go out?" Adam asked suddenly. Elle turned around to see him looking over at her. "You must have been looking forward to it. I think your favourite place in the world has become that park." Elle stepped away from the glass and went over to sit beside him; lacing her arm through his and resting her head on his strong shoulder. "You're wrong." She said gently. "My favourite place in the whole world is next to you."

In His Eyes

It was near the end of the day and outside Adam's office stood a queue of directors with drawn and nervous faces. Adam had called them all to give him briefings one by one this morning. Each director that came out of his office left without even looking up at the rest. It didn't do much to relieve the nerves of the ones left waiting.

David watched on from his desk. It wasn't a habit of Adam's but it wasn't unusual that he would do things like this from time to time. It was much more common in the days before he met Elle, when he would put more time into his work than he did now that he had someone more important to spend that time on.

Still, David couldn't help but feel pity for the one's still waiting for their turn to be scrutinized.

Suddenly he got a call from Adam instructing him to bring him a set of reports once they were available. David quickly ran them and after a few moments was knocking at Adam's office door.

"Come in." The stern voice called.

"Here are the files you asked for." David said as he handed them over.

"Thank you. You can both go now." He said looking at David and the grey-faced director who was sitting in front of him.

"Yes, sir." The director said quickly, as if he were in a rush to leave before Adam could change his mind.

They both left Adam's office together. The director let out a sigh as soon as the door shut behind him.

"I don't know how your nerves handle being his assistant David." The director complained.

"It's not so bad really. He's always been reasonable but he's been more amenable recently. You guys have been taking advantage of his good mood and slacked off too much. If it were last year you would all be prepared at all times incase he suddenly called on you."

The director sighed again. "I guess working at MK means being held to a higher standard anyway."

In his office Adam's fingers tapped impatiently against the desk as he scanned through the reports David had provided. His phone lay faced up on his desk.

Elle would normally get off work around this time and she always texted him when she did, but today she was oddly radio silent.

'Maybe she went to the filming set?' Adam tried to justify.

A half hour passed and he still hadn't heard from he so he finally gave up waiting and called Elle directly. The phone rang once, a second time, a third, and yet no one picked up.

"Forget it." Adam muttered. He quickly grabbed his things and left his office.

"I'm leaving to go check things on set. Tell whatever directors are still waiting that their turn will come tomorrow instead." Adam instructed David before leaving.

As he finally arrived on set Adam glanced around the set but his eyes couldn't find the one person he was looking for anywhere. He quietly approached the director and asked, "Is Ms. Shaw not here today?"

"No." The director replied. "I suppose she was too busy today, we haven't seen her all day."

"I see."

Adam stayed on set for a while and made sure to greet all the appropriate people. It would be not only odd but rude if he came all this way but left immediately, so he stayed; but he stayed not one second longer than what he felt he needed to.

As soon as he felt it was appropriate he left the set and got back into his car. Adam tried calling Elle again but again there was no reply. He did his best not to let his mind run wild with worry as he made his way back home.

When Adam entered their apartment it was pitch black and dead silent. He flicked on the living room lights but the room was empty. He then headed upstairs and was finally given relief.

Laying on the bed, above the sheets, and still in the clothes she had worn to work was Elle who was fast asleep.

Adam let out a sigh and headed over to her. He carefully sat on the edge of the bed, taking care that his weight didn't shift her in her sleep.

Adam gently swept a strand of hair out of her pale face. As he did, a soft smile tugged at Elle's lips as if she could feel the motion even in her sleep.

"How cute."

Adam leaned over her to place a soft kiss to her forehead but as he pulled back he noticed her eyes flutter open.

"Sorry," He murmured gently. "Did I wake you?"

"No, that's okay." Elle replied, her voice still heavy with sleep. "I was waiting for you."

"You should have told me you were coming home. I was worried when I couldn't get a hold of you."

"Sorry." Elle apologized. "I thought I would surprise you with dinner, I didn't think I'd fall asleep right away."

"That's okay." Adam ruffled her hair lightly. "I'll make dinner instead so why don't you rest for a little while longer?"

"Really? You're not tired?"

"I'm fine. You rest." Adam commanded.

So Elle obligingly slept for a bit longer while Adam prepared a meal for them. As she closed her eyes again Elle began counting her blessings instead of sheep.
