Rosie's POV
Sofia!!!
Sofia was the one who was talking about bringing David Crest down. I couldn't believe it. Despite all the love my boss showered on her, she still had terrible intentions against him. I was shocked but tried to look normal so she wouldn't suspect anything. She looked shocked too when she saw me.
"You? Wh...what are you doing here?" She stammered.
I never really liked her because just like David, she doesn't treat me well. For the number of times she's been to the office, she had never spoken to me politely or given me any form of respect even though it is obvious I'm that I'm a bit older than her.
"It's Rosie, Miss Reyes," I corrected.
"Huh?" She asked, confused.
"My name; it's Rosie," I repeated.
"I don't care about that. Did you hear anything?" She asked me.
I knew what she meant, but I decided to play dumb.
"Anything like what?" I asked.
"Whatever; you don't look like you heard anything anyway. What are you back? Where's my baby?" She asked.
I resisted the urge to smile. Only if you know that I know you'd be on your knees begging right now, I thought to myself.
"He's still at the meeting. He asked me to get him a report," I replied.
"Whatever; just get what you have to and leave already. I need to get some rest," she said, getting up from Mr. Crest's seat.
I walked over to the desk and saw the report he asked me to get. I grabbed it and scurried out of the office. As I made my way back to the boardroom, my thoughts crossed through my head.
Do I tell Mr. Crest about what his fiancée is planning against him? How do I even deliver such news? Will he even believe me? Then I remembered I had evidence: the recording on my phone. With all these thoughts on my head, I hurried to the boardroom.
As I walked into the boardroom and approached the table David sat at, he narrowed his eyes at me and muttered in my ears,
"Took you long enough. I don't pay you to be slow and sluggish."
I stood there contemplating whether to tell him or not. Am I even supposed to tell him this? After all, he hasn't been all that nice to me since I started working with him 5 years ago. I really don't care what happened to him. I wanted to keep it to myself, but the nice girl in me couldn't take it.
I decided to wait until after the meeting to tell him about it. Suddenly his phone rang and he excused himself and walked out of the boardroom. I saw a chance to tell him so I followed after him. His back was turned against me as he answered the call.
Immediately, the call ended, and he turned around and saw me, his face squeezed up in annoyance
"Why are you you here and not in there?" He asked, pointing in the direction of the boardroom.
Look at him still being rude to the one person who's about to save his life. There was a fight within me between what to do.
"Seems like you've lost it. Let's get back inside," he said and walked towards the boardroom.
"We need to talk," I blurted out.
"Can't we do that after the meeting? Quit lazing around, Miss Johnson," he said, his hand on the doorknob.
"It's about Miss Reyes. She's plotting against you," I blurted out again.
"What the hell are you talking about? Why speak such blasphemy against my fiance? Are you bent on losing your job or something?" He asked me, his face red in anger.
I took a deep breath to calm my nerves as I pulled out my phone and played the recording for him. Is ice popped out as he heard Sophia's voice in the recording and everything she had said. Without saying any more words, he stormed away, walking towards the office. I knew what I had to do, so I turned back around and went back into the boardroom.
"Something urgent just came up for Mr Crest. So please, this meeting has been adjourned until further notice. Thank you," I said with a smile, trying to act comported after the bombshell I had just dropped by Mr Crest.
The executives and other members who attended the boardroom meeting began to murmur as they got up from their seats, clearly confused but obviously concerned. None asked any questions, which I was grateful for. I waited back at the boardroom for a couple of minutes to give Mr. Crest and Miss Reyes some more time to sort out their issues.
After about 30 whole minutes, I went back to the office, hoping that the situation had died down by now. But on getting there, the office was empty. Neither Mr. Crest nor his fiancée were in the office. I sat at my desk and continued with my work. I couldn't help but be worried about Mr. Crest and how he was doing. He looked broken when I played him the voice recording.
The next day and for the whole of that week, Mr. Crest did not show up at work. I tried calling him because there were some important meetings he had to attend, but he wasn't picking up my calls. I was tired of giving excuses for his absence.
I was beginning to get worried, and thoughts about visiting him at his house came popping into my head. But it was then I realized I did not even know where my boss lived. We weren't that close. I just hoped he was fine. One day, I went to work, and I noticed that Mr. Crest's door was half-opened. I became scared that somebody had probably broken into his office.
I rushed towards his office and opened the door fully, but I was starstruck by what I witnessed.
