I can't even remember saying goodbye to daddy nor did he turn around to wave or at least smile while he was being escorted out of the courtroom in cuffs once again.
Adian and Basil promised to deliver the files from my therapy session to the court even though I'm suddenly afraid they might agree with the therapist and commit me to the institution and keep daddy locked up for a crime he didn't commit.
Was daddy angry with me?
Did I do more harm than good?
Adian and I sat in the Benz driven by Basil with Ryan sitting in the passenger seat, deep in thought.
"How many files do you have from the therapist?" Adian suddenly breaks the silence.
Lifting my eyes to Adian, watching him stare out the window, tapping his chin as he wait for me to respond to his question.
"Uh, five years worth of therapy." I responded. "Two years it was every week and for three years it was monthly." I admitted hoping he don't get upset because I've kept it away from him for so long.
Softly humming to himself, Adian kept nodding his head but didn't respond to my answer nor did he ask another question.
Since I already moved all of the files to the penthouse, we went directly there to retrieve them.
Basil escorted me upstairs to retrieve the gym bag containing the files while I searched for the few files I left lying around to read, before he joined Adian to deliver them directly to the court while Ryan hitched at ride to the office.
For some reason Adian was in a sullen mood, leaving the penthouse without speaking to me or even having lunch.
For some reason, I didn't care to probe because if I spoiled things for daddy, I don't want to know.
Changing out of the suit I wore to court, I showered and pulled on a dark blue jeans and a dark blue T-shirt, which hung loose on my thigh and together with a black hoodie and a black baseball cap, I left the apartment for some alone time, something I haven't gotten since moving into a full house.
Taking a bus into the city, I stopped to have lunch at a new restaurant serving Indian dishes, deciding to try something new, today and spent the next few hours in the park, sweating in the hot sun with the fifty pounds of clothing I'm wearing in the heat.
Sighing I got up and made my way back to the bus stop, dreading having to return to a houseful of unhappy people. People I have bought unhappiness to because of my messed up childhood and a messed up parent.
"Ma'am, ma'am" a security at Adian's building rushed towards me as I stepped into the lobby, staring anxiously. "Your husband has been looking for you and he's frantic with worry." The security informed me.
Frowning, I shoved my hands into my hoddie pocket so retrieve my phone, only to find none.
Did I drop it in the bus or the park?
"Thank you," I said quickly, "I must have dropped my phone," I added, explaining why I did not receive any calls from Adian.
Without waiting for his response, I rushed to the elevator and in my haste, I didn't hear what he was saying over my shoulder.
Damit!
Mentally slapping myself, I stood anxiously willing the lift to get to the top floor faster and cursing Adian for choosing to live at the top floor.
Using my key, I entered the penthouse to hear Emmy shouting my name as she rushes into my arms.
Stooping down, I hug her to my chest, while she pulls my baseball cap off my head, causing my loose hair to tumble down my shoulders.
"Hailey," Mrs. Harris says from behind Emmy, releasing a sigh of relief. "Where have you been?" She asks quickly and continued without giving me a chance to explain. "I didn't even know you left the apartment and Adian is so angry," with her hands on her chest, "because I didn't know where you were." She added, flinching as she probably remembered Adian's anger.
Pointing behind her, "call him, quickly." She advises me. Standing up, I held Emmy's hand to pick up the landline.
"I can't find my phone," smiling at Mrs. Harris in embarrassment, "I must have lost it on the bus." I explained, frowning at Mrs. Harris nervous chuckle.
"Oh sweetie," she comes to stand beside Emmy and I, "you left it upstairs." Mrs. Harris responded and I still wasn't relieved to hear that because I have yet to call my angry husband.
"IS SHE HOME?" Adian barked, into the phone.
As intimidated as Adian's tone made me feel, I still had to get this call over with and brace myself to deal with his anger when he gets home.
"Uh yes, I am home," I answered him softly, taking a deep breath as I await his response.
"F**k!" He said, "I'm on my way," without saying another word, he abruptly hung up.
"I like your hat," Emmy says, while trying on my cap at the kitchen table.
Tucking the loose strands of her hair inside the cap, "have you eaten?" I asked although I knew that's the first thing Mrs. Harris would do, feed Emmy.
Grinning, "I lost a tooth at school." Emmy informs me although I can see it for myself.
Chuckling at her toothless smile, "I hope you kept it for the tooth fairy," laughing at Emmy's immediate response.
I tried to tax my brains but couldn't think about a gift for Emmy because I always give her a gift and money.
Getting up, "I have to go call the tooth fairy's office and give them your new address," I excused myself from the table to make a quick call to have Mel pick up a gift on her way home.
I returned to the kitchen, anxiously awaiting my angry husband.
