Commotion

Episode 3

Vacation had finally come to an end . It was Monday morning, summer birds were singing melodiously and it was like they were saying better days have come. The light was dancing on my window and I could see it through my emerald curtain. My eyes were really weak and I hesitated to get up as I felt like I need much more sleep. I checked my way clock and it pointed on 06:30 Am. "There is still time I have no need to rush out of the blankets" I told myself as I laid on bed helplessly.

The thought of reading, doing assignments as well as presentations made me weaker as I was not ready for that. upon having such a conflict I heard the voice of my mother echoing my name from the kitchen. She was going to be home for the day as she wanted to take rest from the busy day she had the recent day at her shop. I forced myself up as I know it would not end well if I did not attend to her call.

Me: "I am coming mom!" I replied her boredly as I went out of my room.

When I got to the keep I was revived by the aroma which leapt across the room . I saw her with her apron on and she was busy preparing omelette, I began to feel hunger instantly.

Mother: "Morning son, have you forgotten today you are supposed to return to campus? Go and wash up then have your breakfast" said mother surprisedly by my reluctancy.

I was weak to reply her so I just left and went to the bathroom to have a shower. I took a quick bath as I was already eager to have a share for the last time in a while of what my mother had prepared. I went to my room to apply lotion on my skin which I did quickly and returned to the kitchen where I found slices of bread already place in my plate along side the omelette. I sat on the table poured juice in a glass and I began to dig in whilst mother made last remarks on the behavior she expected me to have on campus which I did not pay attention to as I focused on the good meal I was having.

After I was done I cleaned all dishes, and I went to pack all my belongings as I prepared to take my leave within an hour I was set to leave, I call Jim my usual taxi driver to come and take me back to campus. I set on the couch talking with my mother as I waited for him to come, I was fully dressed in my new clothes which my mother even complemented. I was dressed casually in the same colours I saw Chris wearing the day he assisted my to buy my clothes, I had picked the same kind as well on that day.

In the midst of my talk with mother I had a car hooting by the gate when I checked by the window I was glad to notice that it was Jim. I took my travelling bag from my room, mother helped me to place it in the cab, she hugged me as usual as I said goodbye, then I got into the car and left. After travelling a distance from my place I began to converse with Jim.

Me: "How are you Jim, long time" I said this happily as I was eager to start my semester.

Jim: "I am good young man it's been long for sure, so glad to see you" replied Jim happily as well as we went our way.

Jim: " You are smartly dressed by the way, with such kind of dressing you will get all good ladies on campus I tell you hahaha" commented Jim sarcastically.

Me: "Stop saying that, I am going there just to learn period" I disclaimed his opinion even though he had guessed my intention rightly

Jim: "Hahaha okay okay sorry if it got to you wrongly, I was just saying you're on point" apologized Jim but maintaining his opinion that I was smartly dressed.

Me: "Thank you" I replied gently to place a conclusion on the matter.

From there we both went quiet Jim increased the volume of his radio and he was playing his usual jazz songs. After sometime of driving which seemed like ages to me we were finally on campus, my heart began to beat fast as I did not know how people would respond to the new me. I got out of the cab took out my bag, said goodbye to Jim and I faced the gate. There was noone in sight at that moment which gave me time to gain composure. I walked confidently right into the gate and I was give permission to enter when I showed my identity card to the security personnel positioned by the gate.

When I got inside I passed by people who knew me but they did not notice me, but they looked at me with admiration, I noticed that almost every who saw me showed a certain interest . I got to my hostel almost everyone was there they were really amazed by how they had almost mistakened me for someone, they all commented about my dressing even some who had been arrogant at me the previous semester they requested to go with me for a reunion party they were having which was organized by Kelvin who happened to be the son of the mayor which I agreed to.
