Distracted.

"... hurry up, please", I begged over the phone, then I hung up. It was my bestfriend. She was to come over so she could assist me get dressed for tonight. It was an hour left. An hour left to make things official. I was excited. I couldn't wait.

I took up my phone to reach out to a guy I had arranged stuffs with earlier. I was eager to know if he had successfully carried out the task. My ears itched to hear a positive reply from him. I wouldn't spare him for a second if he turned my hopes down.

My life would be doomed if they made it to our engagement party tonight. I couldn't let that happen. They got to know about my big secret that I had been hiding for long now, but I couldn't figure out how.

Just as I was about dialing his number, a knock came in. Oh, shit! How could I forget this place wasn't my house? Jeez. Thank goodness I hadn't placed the call yet. I could have been dead if someone overheard me. I hid my phone under the pillow before answering the door.

"The door is opened", I screamed. Maybe it could be Adrian, I guessed. Or, could it be that Kayla was here already?

I stared at the door, awaiting to see who it was. Finally, the doorknob twisted and the door was pushed open. It screeched loudly against the floor which was a pain in my ears. My guesses turned out wrong.

My eyes met with his grey lustrous eyes,  messy blonde hair, down to his wet rosy lips. He was adorable and seductive in his way. I couldn't deny it. He was here again.

I didn't know his mission or what he was up to this time. Was he gonna make me stay with him behind closed doors? I didn't want  someone to notice him here, else things could go wrong.

I snapped back to my senses when he slammed the door loudly. I heard the keyhole turn. He locked the door. I gasped in shock as my eyes widened.

Was he gonna hurt me? I really hoped he had good intentions, but no- he has never had one before. He was arrogant, rich, powerful, bossy, rude, savage, threatening, he- he was the DEVIL. The one whom I feared. What did he want from me this time? I thought I had gotten rid of him for good. Why was he coming back now?

I saw him approach me. He took bold, majestic steps towards where I laid. I heard the sound his shoes made as they clicked softly on the floor tiles. I shivered as I sat up in fear. The voices in my head began to disappear slowly. I waited for someone to interrupt this moment but no one seemed to come through.

I finally found my tongue. "Mateo?", I called out with a thin shaky voice.

"Right, it's me. Once again", he smirked. He fell to my bed on his butt and crossed his legs slightly.

The room became awkwardly silent. I swear, if a pin dropped downstairs, I could hear it. We were pretty close. I could hear my heart pound loudly. I didn't know where these fears came from. I had always been brave and fearless. If I showed my fear, he could take advantage of my weakness. I waited for him to break the silence.

Maybe I should speak first, I thought. "So, can you say what brought you here?", I asked with a raised brow.

He smiled. He looked really cute when he did that, but I didn't care. "Where did you hide Adrian's parents?", he asked, looking more serious. I couldn't see that smile on his face again, it had all faded with no trace. Then, I felt his gaze hard on me.

I couldn't lie to him. He knew the truth already, but how? The question sank deep into my head. I was contemplating on what to say, I didn't know if I was to act dumb. I was really confused.

"Are you gonna tell me, or...?", he asked with a raised brow. It sounded more like a threat to me. I knew what he was about saying. I couldn't let him do that to me. I had to speak up, it was either now or never.

"... wait, no!", I screamed on my voice. "Urg, I mean I'll tell you everything", I cried as I swallowed hard.

"Good!", he grinned. "Go on, tell me", he added.

I lifted my gaze to his eyes. "Fine, I... I had them both abducted. They're tied up in-

Just then, a loud knock interrupted. I exchanged glances with Mateo. Someone was at the door. I just remembered the door was soundproof, so I relaxed my mind a bit. I waited to hear the voice of the person.

I imagined if it was Adrian, I'd be doomed if he gets to figure out Mateo was in here with me. God, please come to my aid, I prayed silently.

"Kendie...?", a soft audible voice came through. It sounded familiar. Oh, yeah! my bestfriend was here. I had been waiting for her to turn up here for ages. I looked over to Mateo.

"I gotta go. Luck fell on your side, this time. I'd be back for you. Expect me anytime soon", he said. I never took his words for a joke. He meant every word he uttered.

He got on his feet and made way to the door. He turned the keyhole open. I saw him shoot a death stare at her before walking out. I didn't know why he was bent on making my life a living hell at every point. He was the cause of everything falling apart in my life.

I was gonna owe her an explanation. Although, she knew my secret too but not about the kidnap. I had no plans on telling anyone about that. I trusted her, more than anyone else. She had never betrayed me for once in my life.
