Free Lunch

So this stupid newbie did steal my boyfriend.

Lu Chenjun smiled as he watched Elena walk into the warehouse.

Fang Shi stared at the sight of his boss smiling through the back mirror as he started the car. He had seen his boss smile on several occasions, even towards some of his previous girlfriends. However, there was something different about this smile that seemed more genuine and less manipulative.

He turned on the engine and started driving to the company.

Today, Elena has two scenes to film. Her voice wasn't well and each scene took multiple takes. Her acting did get better since the crying scene, and the director seemed to be more patient with her now.

After filming was over, Elena and Mila immediately went back to the apartment.

Elena didn't like owing anyone anything, even if it was her boyfriend. She found some cough and cold medicine and chugged it down.

She entered the kitchen and put on an apron. This morning, Lu Chenjun seemed to like her cooking, although she wasn't really experienced.

She flipped through several recipes on her phone and decided to make a Chinese lunchbox. One vegetable dish, one meat dish, soup, and rice. Perfect. As she was filling up the lunchbox, she suddenly started coughing and spilled the hot soup on her wrist. She jumped at the pain and dropped the spoon.

"Ow! Lu Chenjun really does bring me bad luck," Elena complained.

She finished packing the lunch box and left for the LIQuan Company.

"Mila! There is food in the kitchen, go get it yourself."

Not until she had completely left the building did she realize she forgot to bring her wallet. She hasn't tied her credit card to her phone yet, so she didn't have any money.

Being the typical lazy person, she didn't want to go up and get it. The company was a little more than half a mile away, so she decided to walk there. It was a good way to get a breath of fresh air and some exercise.

She had only walked about half the distance, and she was already sweating and panting for air.

If it weren't for the fact that she was sick, her stamina would definitely be better than this. During her trainee days, the exercise amount was much higher than this. She wiped her forehead and continued to walk. In about 30 minutes, she arrived outside the front door of the LIQuan Company.

She walked inside and tried to enter the special elevator they had used the other day. However, she realized a fingerprint was needed and she couldn't access it. She went to the front desk and asked if she could go up. The lady working there was different today. She studied Elena and rolled her eyes.

"Who are you? This is the LIQuan Company, not everyone can enter. Don't come in here and use up our air conditioner."

Elena stood there frozen for a while. She hated people like her. Although Elena was a star, she didn't look down on people, unless they bothered her first.

She raised her eyebrows and stepped back. She put the lunch box on the ground and pulled out her phone. The lady at the front desk scoffed at her and sat back down. Elena texted Lu Chenjun and told him to send Fang Shi down to the front desk.

In two minutes, Fang Shi stepped out of the elevator. She spotted Elena and called out her name. The front desk lady heard Fang Shi and immediately stood up. Her facial expression took a complete 180-degree turn and sweetly said, "Assistant Fang, why are you here?"

Elena smirked and rolled her eyes. She rested one arm on the front desk and turned to Fang Shi.

"Assistant Fang, you want to tell her who I am?"

Fang Shi raised his eyebrows and looked at the lady working at the front desk.

"This is Miss Jin Yinghui, Lu President's girlfriend."

The lady looked shocked. Her expression quickly changed, and she smiled shyly at Elena.

"The president switched his girlfriend again?" She said this sarcastically, and it was obvious she was directing this at Elena.

Elena slammed her hand on the desk and said, "Fang Shi, bring me to Lu Chenjun."

She picked up the lunch box and left for the elevator. The air conditioner was turned on very high, and Elena's head was starting to hurt. Fang Shi took one last pitiful look at the front desk lady and ran to catch up to Elena.

Elena stomped up the stairs on the 52nd floor and knocked once on the door. Without waiting for a reply, she entered.

Lu Chenjun looked up to see which brave soul it was that didn't knock, and watched Elena storm into his office and walk straight up to his desk.

"Which idiot in your company hired that stupid front desk worker? I'm adding another rule to our contract. You have to fire that stupid, judgy worker."

Lu Chenjun watched Elena rant with an amused look on his face. After she finished, he asked, "You can't add another rule to the contract. But you can tell me, why fire her?"

Elena took a deep breath before explaining everything that happened. After she finished, she began a round of aggressive coughing. She was tired of walking, and she hadn't drank a sip of water since she left her apartment. After talking for so long, her throat was dry and it hurt even more.

Lu Chenjun stopped smiling and pressed a button on the phone.

"Bring a cup of warm water in."

Thirty seconds later, Fang Shi brought a glass of water in. He handed it to Elena, who now had tears in her eyes from coughing. Elena quickly took a large gulp and her coughing got a little better. She finished the entire glass and looked at Lu Chenjun.

"So are you firing her or not."

Lu Chenjun leaned back on his chair, "Give me a benefit for firing her."

Elena thought about this and put the lunchbox she had been holding the whole time onto his table.

"I made lunch. If you fire her, I'll give it to you to eat. If you don't, I'll eat it myself."

The truth was that even if Lu Chenjun didn't fire her, she wouldn't have eaten the food. Her appetite had completely disappeared after walking for so long, and she would have probably given the food to Fang Shi.

Lu Chenjun looked at the lunchbox, "Fang Shi, go tell the front desk worker she's fired."

Fang Shi nodded and left the room. The front desk lady had judged the wrong person.

Elena smiled and sat down in a chair facing Lu Chenjun. She opened the lunchbox and took out a pair of reusable chopsticks. She looked at the mess in front of Lu Chenjun and stood up. She moved all the folders aside and stacked the papers on top of each other.

Lu Chenjun watched as she did all this with a smile on his face. He usually didn't allow anyone to touch the papers on his table, but he trusted Elena and believed that she meant no harm.

After Elena created a small space that was empty on the table, she pushed the lunchbox over.

"Try it. I haven't made Chinese food in a while."

Lu Chenjun took the chopsticks out and tried the vegetable dish. There was something about the food Elena made that reminded him of home and was just very tasty. He usually didn't eat a lot and failed to follow a healthy eating schedule. However, in front of the food Elena made, he couldn't help but finish all of it.

He looked up at Elena, who raised her eyebrows. "It's pretty good."

Elena smiled and laid her head down on the table. "Wake me up when you're done. I'm too tired from walking here."

Almost two hours had passed, and Elena woke up. There was a cold, tingly feeling on her hand, and it made her feel uncomfortable. She opened her eyes and saw Lu Chenjun spreading something onto her wrist.

She quickly pulled her hand away as a natural reaction, and Lu Chenjun looked up at her with cold eyes.

She quickly slid her hand back, and Lu Chenjun said, "You woke up. How did you burn your wrist?"

Like an idiot, Elena asked, "How do you know I burned my wrist?"

Lu Chenjun glared at her as he said, "I have eyes."

Elena looked down at her wrist and realized that Lu Chenjun had put on burn medicine. She smiled and thanked him.

She looked over at the lunchbox and found that it was completely empty. She eyed Lu Chenjun, who immediately went back to work. She closed the lunchbox and quickly stood up. Due to the sudden movement, her vision blurred. She stepped backward and wobbled for a moment.

After she felt better, she grabbed the lunchbox and blinked a few times.

"I'm going to get going. I still have a long walk back to my apartment."

As she turned to leave, Lu Chenjun stopped her.

"Wait. Don't walk home. Fang Shi can drive you home."

"Okay, thank you. I'll see you later."

She opened the door and found Fang Shi waiting for her outside. They walked out of the building and into the parking lot.

The car was different and it looked very new.

'I wonder how many cars Lu Chenjun has?' Elena thought.

The walk had taken about half an hour, but by car, they had arrived in less than 10 minutes. Elena exited the car and thanked Fang Shi.

As she turned to leave, she heard Fang Shi exclaim, "Wait, Miss Jin Yinghui. Mr. Lu told me to give this car to you."
