Charlotte Cooper furrowed her brow, but slowly loosened it. She didn't expect Henry Russell to not trust her at all, but still opened her mouth with some hope, asking, "Henry Russell, do you really not believe me at all?"
Standing up straight and looking directly at Charlotte, she was forced to look up at him, and heard Henry's voice in her ear, "I only believe what I see with my own eyes."
What he saw with his own eyes? What did he see? He saw her standing with Lily McKenzie, and saw Russell's mother pointing at the place where the two of them stood.
But why couldn't his doubt be about Lily instead? Was it just because she was standing in front of Lily at the time, and he thought Russell's mother was pointing at her by default?
The usually calm and composed Charlotte was thoroughly rattled at this moment. It wasn't just a momentary panic, but a deep-rooted one that came from within her.
