Chapter 4

Petra POV

The moment I got outside the club, I breathed in the fresh air of the night. Several others were also leaving, as it was late into the night. I felt a hand tap on my shoulder, forcing me to swiftly turn around. It was Irene who looked completely wasted.

"I warned you right before we entered the club that I never wanted to lose sight of you." Her words were struggling to come off her lips. Whatever she had taken was too strong for her system to handle.

"You don't look too good." I called out, hoping to help her stand a little bit more properly, but she refused. Irene and I walked back to the car afterwards. There was no way I was going to allow her to drive in such a complicated condition.

Once we were fully in the car, I hesitated for a moment, hoping I could get answers to the nagging thoughts that clouded my mind.

"Irene," I said, turning around to face her. She was struggling to stay awake. "Do you think the don would let me go if I sought for my contract to be terminated?" She sat upright, almost as though she had instantly become sober.

"You want the honest truth?" She stared at me.

"Yes," I indicated.

"I don't think you are ever going to leave. You failed to read the content of the letter you signed. The boss deceived you into thinking that you had hopes of leaving. Whoever signs a contract with the boss has signed a deal with the devil. There is no going back." I stared at her in disbelief. There was no way Irene could be speaking the truth. I still believed she was drunk. However, upon starting the car, a thought struck my mind: what if she was right? I have heard several stories about people who, when drunk, speak the most honest and brutal truth possible, as opposed to when they are sober.

It simply meant one thing: I needed to go back and review the contract I signed with Don.

After several minutes on the road, we finally arrived at the apartment, and Irene slumped onto the couch and dozed off while I dashed into my room. I searched the room for the contract, making the entire place messy.

The moment I laid hold of the contract, I gasped in belief as a wave of reality hit me; Irene was right, I was tricked, and now it almost looked like I would be with Carlos forever.

I slumped to the bed, tears running down my eyes, and I thought about how I had been so dumb not to have noticed this right from the beginning. It wasn't as though there was no going away, no freedom from Carlos.

However, I was determined to find a means to plead with Carlos to let me go. I didn't know how it was going to happen, but I was determined to gain my freedom from the Mafia don.

Blake POV

I watched as she stepped into a car with another woman, who looked completely wasted. While they drove off, several thoughts bugged my mind about her. Was she one of Carlos' girls who did his dirty work?

As these thoughts kept coming, I felt a fingertip around my neck, and when I turned around, my usual sex partner came over and sat beside me, placing her legs on mine. Lana was a ravishing Russian beauty, and her sex game was top notch.

"What are you still doing here? I thought you would be home by now." I groaned in frustration. She had a way of pulling out sexual desires from me, despite not always being in the mood. "How about we head over to your house?" There hasn't been a party where I didn't take Lana home for the night. However, this night was different. The image of the young girl I had met some hours earlier erased any sort of possibility of taking Lana home.

"Maybe some other time." I indicated that I was seeing Carlos from afar. I could hear her gasp as I got off the couch.

"Nick Blake! Great to see you at my party once again." Carlos said so the moment I approached him. "You know we have to take care of business when needed, right?" I knew he was referring to the kill he executed right at the party.

"Like you said, he stole from you, and I believe he deserves what he got." A sudden commotion had both myself and Carlos turning towards the scene. It was Lana who had poured out a drink on a man.

"It seems she is having a rough time. I thought you would be taking her home." Carlos asked, feeling amused by the scene.

"A man has to say no sometimes." We both laughed momentarily before Carlos turned strict once again.

"You do know I have goods coming from China next week, don't you?" He asks in a low tone.

"Sure, and as usual, we make the arrival smooth and easy. I work the government clearance off, while your men do their own part." He smiled, tapping my shoulder in the process.

"You are one of the few good men I have met in a while now. I know that our alliance will continue to thrive. Only if you don't poke my eyes." He said the last words with his eyes completely darkened.

"An unholy union has been formed, and I don't think I will break it." There was something odd about what Carlos stated while staring at me; it almost looked like he could smell betrayal from afar.

"Very well then... To good business," he said, holding his cup.

"And the beginning of our pleasure." I replied, holding my cup as well. While I sipped the drink, once again my thoughts returned to the image of the girl from earlier on. I knew our paths would cross again.
