It has been almost two weeks since Harrison left, I went downstairs, the house is covered with silence. I clumsily looked at myself in front of the mirror, "What's happening with you..." I whispered. I wonder, when I am at home, I can't call it home anymore.
"Briana..." My Dad called me out of nowhere. His eyes were swollen, sad, and tired. I asked him one time, he was writing a letter at that time, and I don't know what it's for.
"Hmm, yes, Dad?" He walked downstairs. He's pretty organized now as if something is going on. His clothes were unusual, his hair was more organized than usual, and he's wearing his favorite perfume. But even though he's kind of more organized now, his eyes don't deny it. All I can see was sadness and emptiness.
"Can I send you to your School?" He looked nervous, he smiled genuinely. I couldn't help but smile at him, I walked towards him and pulled him into a tight hug. I've been waiting for this, I felt like we haven't communicated properly for the past weeks.
He hugged me back and caress my back. "Of course, you don't need my permission. I would also love to if you do that..." I uttered in the middle of the hug.
"I miss you, Hija." I let go of the hug and looked at him with my teary-eyed. "I miss you, too, Dad..." What happened... I wanted to ask, but I still couldn't.
We arrived at school peacefully. We just talked the whole ride, like we used to do. It's just kind of different now, Mom wasn't here. I continued to enter the school after we said goodbyes.
I was walking when a Senior approached me. "Good morning." He uttered in a cold tone.
"Good morning... yes?" I questioned him because he seems to have something to say. I looked at him, his eyes were tender, he looked more mature than my classmates. Of course, he's a Senior. He's taller than me, taller with Travis I guess.
"Mrs. Vilanco said she can't attend the class right now." His voice was full of authority. My brows furrowed a bit, why was he telling me this? I'm not the president of the class. Well, maybe he can't find our class captain.
"Hmm. Okay, then. I'll tell them." I said while nodding, with a small smile on my lips.
"Let's go together." My forehead furrowed even more.
"If you're wondering. I'll stay there for 1 hour and give you the activities. Don't worry, you're not my type." A hint of a smirk appeared on his lips.
"The fuck?" I could no longer restrain myself in shock at what he said, I just heard him chuckle.
"You're not my type also! Feeling..." I said defensively, but I whispered the last part.
"Let's go..." I just nodded and followed him walking. My phone vibrated so I took it from my bag.
My home:
where are u bb? :(
I smiled at what I read, someone's being clingy, huh. I heard someone cleared his throat but I just ignored him.
Me:
Almost there, wait for me.
My home:
ok bb, I love u :>
I was about to reply but the Senior guy stopped. I also stopped and looked at him, "Why?" I asked with confusion.
"I am a student council." He said in a monotone.
"Okay... so?" A hint of annoyance appeared in his eyes. What? I was just asking!
"Aren't you aware that we're not allowed to use a cellphone?"
Oops. I forgot. I quickly hid the cellphone.
"Sorry..." I even made a peace sign but his face stayed serious. I just playfully rolled my eyes. I noticed we were right in front of the classroom, I said goodbye and thanked him before heading straight into the classroom.
I sat beside Travis since Mrs. Vilanco wouldn't be here in the Class. "Good morning..."
"Morning." He uttered coldly. What the hell did I do?
I looked at him for a long time and examined him carefully. "Are you mad?" His dark eyes darted on mine, he looked at me with a wave of hidden anger... I'm not sure if it was anger.
"Can you tell me what's wrong?"
"Don't you really know?" He said briefly. I tried to think again, reminiscing what's the possible reason. All I can remember was talking to Dad, then talking to the Senior guy... what would be the reason? I was about to ask him if it's about the Senior guy but, "Check your phone," He said with irritation. I saw Marcus laughing and shaking his head.
"Damn, man. You're like a kid who couldn't get a balloon." Marcus teased him. I laughed softly because of the teasing of the two. I looked around before checking my phone.
"I'm a kid, I'm her baby." Marcus gasped even more at what he heard. I also joined in the laughter as I read Travis's last message.
My home:
ok bb, I love u :>
I slowly closed my mouth because I realized what the reason was. I quickly sat down next to him and came closer to him. "I love you." He did not speak but I saw the reflection of a smile on his lips.
"Excuse me, single here," Marcus said dramatically that made us laugh.
"Shh." The Senior guy was looking at us. The three of us looked at each other and secretly smiled as our lips closed.
"I am Damian and as you can see, I'm your Senior. Mrs. Villanco wouldn't gonna be here for now." I heard my classmates celebrated in a whisper. "But she has left you activities to do." Their celebration was also immediately revoked.
"First of all, group yourselves into two. 1 boy and 1 girl." Damian announced. I heard my classmates complain.
“I’m sorry, I’m late.” Sabrina apologized to Damian, he just nodded and go back with his laptop.
She went straight to our table, still gasping. “Fuck the alarm.” She cursed and sat beside me. Maybe she stayed up all night again talking to Levi. They’re dating now, Levi was the first one who made the first move. Sabrina’s pride can’t relate.
“Where’s Mrs. Vilanco and who’s that?” She whispered. They are a bit noisy for picking partners.
“Mrs. Vilanco was absent and he’s the one who will watch us do the tasks. Anyway, pick a partner. It should be a boy.”
She nodded. “Marcus, do you already have a partner?” Marcus shook his head. “We should be partners, then,” Sabrina commanded and Marcus just nodded.
I slightly point Travis’s shoulder. “We’re partners.” I reminded him. “Are we?” He raised an eyebrow. He softly chuckled and pinched my cheek. “Of course, you’re my—” We were both shocked by a crash.
“I remind you, don’t flirt inside the class.” He said with his baritone voice. He was looking at us but looked around after he announced that.
“Bitter,” I whispered. We laughed softly.
“I guess you all have partners.” He stood up and start to distribute questionnaires. “I’ll give you 45 minutes to answer all of these, read the directions carefully. Some of the tasks will be sent by your group chat.” He said while continue distributing the papers.
When he got to our table, he first stopped and stared at us before handing out the paper.
We quietly answered what was given to us, it wasn't too difficult so there was no problem. Everyone also ended quickly so he dismissed early.
“That was easy.” I heard some of my classmates.
“He has a crush on you.” I furrowed my brows at what Sabrina said. Confused.
“Who?” I questioned her with confusion.
“That Grade 11 guy, the Senior one…”
“The fuck?”
“He’s too obvious, he’s looking at you like you’re going to disappear if he looked away.” She explained. Should… I care? If it’s real, then thank you?
“So…” I can imagine myself looked like clueless.
“It doesn’t matter, anyway… And I guess you’re just mistaken.” She just agreed with me even though I knew I couldn't convince her.
Time passed quickly and time to go home again. Sabrina told me she has a date today and Travis will be playing basketball with his friends. I had nothing to do so I went home already.
I did my after-school routine before doing my assignments. I finished everything quickly so I slept for a while.
I woke up around 6:30 pm, I checked my phone and there was no text from Travis so I decided to continue plotting my story. I played some music so I can get ideas from it. After hours of plotting, I finished. I was about to eat but I still don’t have an appetite so I decided to make a book cover.
It took me hours again to finish the book cover. It’s already late when I get hungry. I was about to went downstairs but I heard a fight again.
Fight, Endless fight.
My thoughts are loud as they shout. I don’t know what I want to hear, my thoughts, or their fight.
I just chose to go back to my bed and try to cover my ears, but I can’t escape. I’m tired of this. I don’t want to hear any fight anymore. Little by little everyone went silent until all I could hear were sobs.
“Our family wouldn’t be ruined if you didn’t do that shit.” Dad’s voice echoed on my head.
“We know it wasn’t a mistake…” He said clearly but his voice broke eventually.
