"Did you find anything?" asked Naomi concerned.
Knowing that there was someone watching him, and that the intruder let Naomi see her before she left, Alvin could guess what's he wanted to do. It was a simple but effective method to probe unknown people, a method he frequently employed. You pretended to be rummaging through their thing, unexpectedly 'get seen" and run away. You then stealthily monitored the people, and could guess some details about them with their next reaction.
If he was a regular person who had nothing to hide, he would probably go to the police and raise a ruckus in the neighbourhood, and try to bring the preparation to justice.
If it was a regular person with a few things to hide, he wouldn't go to the police. He would either commission some extra security, or start covering up whatever he had to hide before its discovery.
If it was someone who had Beyonder means, there was a great possibility that they would use their powers to try and determine some clues.
And in case the person had some backing, unofficial or official, they would go to their backers to report the break-in, and following him would reveal the backer.
And most of the time, they would discuss the break in and possible reasons and the target of the intruder, and by listening to it, the things they kept in high regard could be determined.
Alvin could feel gazes directed at him due to the powers of a Hunter, and he distinctly identified such a gaze from the mirror. He ignored it as he went forward, as he did not want to alert the person monitoring them just yet.
He had two guesses to the identity and prowess of the monitorer.
It could either be a Sequence 5 Wraith from the Rose School of Thought. He had been responsible for the death of two of their members earlier in the day, and thus alerted the official Beyonder's to the presence of the Black Rose.
He felt this was unlikely, because he was just one of the many people present in the factory today. Divination was unlikely to be able to directly lock onto him as the one at fault, and he doubted that his name and location would be leaked out by the official Beyonders who knew what happened, despite the ugly happenings with Freeman.
Plus, if it really was a Wraith, it could have easily overpowered him, and probably would have tried to possess him as soon as he walked through the door. A Wraith could use divination and channel the spirit, so everything it wanted to know could be found after. It wouldn't still be waiting in the mirror observing. This tactic was found its use only when both sides were roughly equal in strength, and there was no more straightforward method to extract information. Or else, much like the method he used against Sophia, the girl he suspected to be a Beyonder, it would be subduing then finding information through some means that would be used.
The other possibility is that the monitoring in via the mirror was done through someone of the Demoness pathway. As Alvin remembered, at Sequence 5, which was the Demoness of Affliction, a Beyonder from this pathway had the ability to travel through the mirror world. So it was possible that they had the power to blend into a mirror, or leave a trace of spiritual power in the mirror at an earlier Sequence of this Pathway.
He already knew that Diana or formerly Dennis was onto him, because he had mentioned seeing the green flame to a policeman when Isabella overheard, and she was afflicted by it for some reason. She had swung by the bar several times, and was almost flagged by the Machinery Hivemind.
She was probably only a Sequence 7 Witch at this point, and it made sense that she would pull this stunt to problem him instead of directly confronting him, cautious as she h
appeared to be from the memories of Sophia Alvin had viewed.
Alvin had a couple of options now. He could pretend to be oblivious and report to the police like a normal person would, and thus make her believe he was not a Beyonder, and he just happened to see something by accident. She might leave him alone after this conclusion.
He could 'discover' the spying, and by means of breaking the mirror stop the monitoring. This would lead her to understand that he had some Beyonder powers or at least some knowledge in that regard, and she would most probably retreat and might leave him alone until she had a better plan of action ready.
Her leaving him for a while would be a great turn of events for Alvin, as he knew where her blood relatives lived, and hence he could take the initiative to go after her whenever he wanted.
But both these options had problems. If he reported to the police, a 'concerned' official Beyonder organisation may investigate. Alvin wanted to avoid this happening, as they could easily discover some secrets he would rather not be revealed if they snooped around.
On the other hand, if he scares her off by discovering her, who knew when she might take action. He estimated that she would have some patience, but if the injury caused by the green flame was worse than he expected, she might make a move faster, and end up hurting Naomi or Cheryl. Alvin did not want this to happen either.
Hence, he decided to use the third option. He would pretend to be the guy who blurts out stuff like crazy in panic after an incident. If he knew that someone was listening, and the people listing did not know that he was aware they were listening, they would believe almost any bullshit spoken to be true. And with his talent at bullshitting, he could easily draw a complete and elaborate story which she would buy. And he could then use her as backup/distraction for a solo operation he had planned tonight with her none the wiser, if she bit the hook that is.
