Final Preparation

Dr. Kayle returned to his desk to save the contract Reynard had just signed. He unlocked a small drawer and pulled out a folder filled with documents. It contained all the contracts of the volunteers who agreed to be experimented on in his various science experiments. One more document would be added to it, Reynard's contract. There were probably hundreds of documents in that folder. Dr. Kayle himself didn't know the exact number. What was clear was that he had been using humans as research subjects for decades. He dared to do that because he had a strong position in the city's elite circle. No one would arrest him for violating the law.

"I'll take you to my time machine, Reynard," Dr. Kayle said then.

After putting the folder back into the drawer and locking it, the scientist approached Reynard. He unlocked the door, and the two walked together to where the time machine was. The scientists who had gathered earlier were now at their respective positions. They were busy with preparations to launch the machine for the first time. Everyone was waiting to see Dr. Kayle and Reynard. They were all staring at the two of them when they arrived near the time machine. Soon they would be conducting a dangerous experiment to cross the boundary between space and time.

Before Reynard was directed to try out Dr. Kayle's time machine, he was given some advice by the scientist. "Reynard, I need to tell you a few things. Time travel can be unpredictable. You can experience things that are not at all pleasant during the process. Also, the most fatal thing is that you could be stranded in the middle of nowhere," the scientist said while looking seriously at Reynard.

"I don't even know what that means," Reynard retorted. Dr. Kayle explained in a language that was difficult to understand. That left Reynard quite confused. In Reynard's mind, doubts arose if this experiment would not end well.

"Ah, never mind. Forget it, you just need to believe in yourself. The rest, let us take care of it. Is everything clear?" said Dr. Kayle in the end. He did not want to waste time explaining to Reynard about something he did not understand. It was better to start this experiment before the day turned into night.

"Mr. West, please follow us."

One of the scientists invited Reynard to approach the time machine. The young man was amazed again. He couldn't understand how such a complex machine could be made by humans. It seemed like scientists had always aspired to match God's power. They dared to break the boundaries that only divine hands could cross.

Seeing all the intricate details of the time machine left Reynard speechless. "Tell me, what should I do here?"

"Come here for a moment, Sir. Let us do a little extra checking on you," said the scientist who seemed to be Dr. Kayle's assistant.

Reynard was invited to sit in a chair. He was approached by several scientists carrying their instruments. He got his blood pressure, breathing, and some other basic things checked. In addition, he also received an injection. He didn't know what had just been injected into his body, but Reynard didn't feel any significant effects.

"That's it. You can wait here for now, Mr. West."

All of Dr Kayle's assistants left and reported Reynard's examination results to the man. Reynard saw the scientists discussing once again to make sure everything was completely ready. In the back of his mind, there were still doubts about Dr. Kayle. If he died in this experiment, perhaps no one else would know. But since he was also living alone, at least there would be someone looking for him.

"Now, you guys believe me, don't you?" asked Dr. Kayle to all his assistants.

"This is amazing, Dr. Kayle. We've just examined Reynard West and we found something that the average human doesn't have. His heartbeat is very strong, his muscles are very dense, perhaps his bones are as strong as steel. Reynard West is no ordinary man," said an assistant.

"And that young man will be a good subject for our experiments. Now make the final preparations for the machine. Make sure nothing is missed," Dr. Kayle explained. He hoped everything would go as planned.

After all the preparations had been confirmed, Dr. Kayle returned to Reynard one last time. He wanted to say something to the young man about time travel that might be full of surprises.

"Reynard, we've done animal experiments before. Inside the animal is a tracker that allows us to know its position. We've created an approximate holographic map of the area where you'll be. You might have noticed that one of my assistants injected something in your arm," explained Dr Kayle.

"Is that the trakcer?" asked Reynard.

"You're right. Don't worry, we'll be monitoring your position and condition throughout the time travel. We've programmed this machine to take you to an area controlled by the werewolf kingdom. You will have everything you need to survive when you get there. So you have nothing to worry about," Dr Kayle explained once again.

"Alright," Reynard replied simply.

Dr Kayle's assistants began to bring Reynard closer to the time machine. He was then instructed to sit in a chair located right in the centre of the machine. Reynard's body began to be fitted with many wired devices connected directly to the monitor. Starting from the head, hands, to the feet. After that, Reynard's hands and feet were tied using some sort of hook connected to the chair. Reynard's head was also given a metal restraint. Now his body could hardly move at all. Reynard was not informed of this beforehand, making him start to feel anxious.

"Is this part of the procedure?" asked Reynard hesitantly.

"Don't worry, these are all standard safety procedures," said a scientist. Having finished, he left and joined the other scientists.

"Finally, the time has come."
