Chapter Fifty Three.

Lucas embraced Zawadi's body to his tightly.  He knew he had to tell her the truth.  Whether at the moment or the next day,  it would all still be the same.

Sighing,  he turned to her and said "Yes, the baby is dead" he admired.

And just like that her world came tumbling down.  She broke into a pained sob as she caressed her belly.

How could it be that only hours ago she had a life inside her and now it was all gone.

She had known it though,  even without overhearing Lucas and Camila,  he knew that something was wrong.

How could she not know when she had felt empty from the moment she had woken up?

She was a mother after all. Well,  not any more but she had started feeling like a mother and the fact that it had all been snatched from her before it became a reality broke her heart.

"It hurts so much.  I wanted the baby.  I loved it so much and my own mother took that away from me.  She killed her own grandchild. How could she be so cruel?"she asked in between sobs.

"Shh! It's okay baby.  He will get what is coming to her. I have filled a case against her.  We will fight her in court " Lucas laid a gentle kiss on her forehead.

"I hate her.  I will never forgive her for this.  And if she claims that her daughter is dead to her,  then my mother,  in my eyes,  is a murderer who deserves to rot in jail.

I have been to tolerant with her. But that was only because I thought that she is only hurt from away from her daughter for too long.

I thought that one day she would see me for who I am,  her daughter,  and accept me.

But after this,  all I feel for her is hatred. I will never  forgive her.  NEVER" she spat angrily.

"We will get her the punishment she deserves. Sleep baby.  You are tired. I'll wake you up later" Lucas kissed her forehead before helping her lay down comfortably.

He got up when he heard little snores coming from her mouth,  she was asleep.

He slowly slipped out of the room.  He needed to talk to someone urgently.  Taking out his phone from his pant pocket,  he dialed his lawyers number.

They went through the case Lucas had filed and talked about getting evidence.

To the evidence, Lucas responded that he had a CCTV cameras at home and he would get the footage off of that.

Zawadi stayed in the hospital for four days,  much to her annoyance.  She had told the doctor she was feeling fine on the second day but he wouldn't let her be discharged.

All she wanted was to jump right into the case against her mother.  She truly felt that by doing nothing,  she was letting her child down.

She wasn't going to sit back and watch her mother win. Never.  She had promises her child she wouldn't.

On the fourth day,  Zawadi got discharged from the hospital. When she got home, she felt like she was again able to breathe.

It was a new beginning for her,  she had to accept what had happened.  But that didn't mean she would forget about it.

Never.

It simply meant it was time for those who hurt her to pay and she would make sure they do.

They were having dinner when her phone rang.

An unknown number. It read.

She answered the phone.

"How are you doing my dearest daughter?" Lisa's awfully sweet Voice made its way to her ear.

"I am fine mommy" she replied with fake enthusiasm.

"I see you have forgotten your manners " Lisa said

"Me? I am not the one who murdered her grandchild. Watch out mother, I am coming for you" she warned in a stern voice before she hang up.

"That woman has no shame" Lucas said beside her.

"Not to worry,  once the ant said to the elephant 'tread lightly my friend. However small,  it is still my territory ' But the elephant didn't listen.

And when the ant had had enough of him, he crawled up the mighty elephant's trunk.

The elephant tried it's best to get the ant out but the ant didn't budge,  and in the end the elephant died.

And in any case,  one should always know which side of the bread is buttered. " Zawadi said easily.

"You are so strong.  I admire you so much for that. " Lucas admitted.

"You have seen nothing yet. You are with me, you are my strength. "

"I love you" he kissed both her cheeks earning a giggle from her.

"I love you" she told him.

That night Zawadi couldn't sleep.  She kept turning on the bed.  And when she couldn't take it anymore, she decided to go to the balcony for so me fresh air.

The truth was that she had been afraid to fall asleep ever since her miscarriage. Every time she closed her eyes to sleep,  she would relive how she lost the baby.

Of course she hadn't told Lucas,  she didn't want him to worry.

She was hurt , broken.  She might have been acting tough on the outside but in the inside,  she just wanted someone to wake her up and tell her it had all been a horrible dream.

She sat herself on the floor and cried. Hugging her knees.

She felt so weak, all her dreams about the baby,  her plans for the baby,  her happiness.  All of it was non existent, long gone.

She relaxed when she felt a pair of arms wrap around her. Lucas rubbed circles on her back in a soothing manner as she cried into his chest.

She let all the pent up anger and heartache flow through the tears. And when he carried her to the bed,  she stuck to him.

He laid them down before bringing the comforter over them both.  He pulled her close and kissed her forehead.

"It's okay,  baby.  Let it all out" he encouraged and she cried even more,  until she fell asleep in his arms.
