"Why aren't you watching your back, stupid!, a familiar voice echoed amidst the sound of clashing swords.
Xing saw herself standing in the middle of an ambush where the entire Ming family was targeted. The carriages were burning and smoke clouded her vision and she could hear Shurei and the little baby's whimper.
" I'm not stupid! ", she shouted and tried to get Baobei who was beside her but before she could touch the boy, everything around her disappeared in a whisp of smoke.
As she passed through the smoke with her face covered, she was in a courtyard engulfed in flames. The heat was rising and even the sound of the burning wood and the embers rising before her were very discernable reminding her of the day her courtyard burned.
That was a day she felt helpless!
But when she looked around, she realised it was her father's courtyard and there she saw behind the wooden partition, her father, her brother and little Ruoxin.
