Hideki Takeuchi (Smith)

For months Kanai was still able to continue her studies and her University was lenient with her pregnancy and allowed her to continue her studies until she gave birth which was scheduled somewhere in January. 

With this pregnancy, Kanai now had a goal in life, to support the life that is in her womb and provide the child the quality care that she can provide. Now she tried to be an honor student, which she hadn't done in her previous years, and she was able to be on top of her studies for 2 straight semesters. 

However, her achievements were both a blessing and a curse (for a short time), as news of her second achievement came to her parents they surprisingly visited Kanai and Mayumi to their apartment. Ryoma and Taeko were unable to visit the sisters due to their independence and the parents' work.

What they saw was shocking, a 7-month pregnant Kanai in her apartment studying. Mayumi and Kanai were looking at each other asking each other 'who snitched who', however, they saw their parents' faces and knew that they were surprised by their parents. 

Ryoma shouted, "What is this!" 

Mayumi then got in between a scared Kanai and their parents and said "Dad! I can explain this!" 

Ryoma then shouted, "Then explain!"

Kanai was now sobbing in her chair and Taeko saw this and comforted her daughter, while Mayumi explained Kanai's situation. "… Okay, it's like this" 

Mayumi then explained that Matt got Kanai pregnant and after 2 weeks, Matt left Kanai, Ryoma and Taeko knew this bit, then Mayumi told her parents that Kanai experienced morning sickness one morning and they discovered this on that day thru a local clinic physician, and their OB-Gyne doctor.

Mayumi then told them that Kanai wanted to keep this a secret in fear of their parents being mean towards Kanai and Mayumi as a big sister didn't also want that to happen so she also kept it a secret. 

Lastly, Mayumi told Ryoma that this sparked Kanai's goal to support her child and be the best parent to him. Yes, the baby's gender is a boy. And this was the beginning of Kanai's transformation into the best student she is now. 

Now Ryoma, was not mad, but still shocked and saw his daughter crying, so his anger dissipated and hugged her and said "I'm sorry for being mad, but I am proud you decided to give this baby a chance in life." Now Kanai was crying with a smile as her parents approved of this.

After 5 minutes Kanai calmed down and Ryoma asked her, "So what did the school say about this?" Kanai told him that the University was lenient and allowed her to study as she paid the tuition and would be sad if she missed what she paid to study, so she could study until she gave birth to her baby boy. 

Taeko then asked Kanai, "So, what will be his name?" 

Kanai told them "His name will be Hideki Takeuchi"

Mayumi, Ryoma, and Taeko were shocked as the family name of Matt was excluded so Ryoma asked, "You won't give him his father's family name?"

Kanai told them, "If he won't be here after I give birth to Hideki, then I won't. If he will not be a responsible father, I will not give him his father's name."

Also, Ryoma interpreted this as "Matt's a deadbeat dad so I won't let him near his son." It was at this time, that Matt was soft-banned in the Takeuchi household. 

Now that the air is clear, Taeko cooks a simple meal for the family for a simple lunch, as they will celebrate Kanai's pregnancy the next day. To which they did include Ichiro and Mitsuo. This made the family bonding more special as everybody was in unison to take good care of the baby, Hideki.

After Ryoma and Taeko visited Kanai, they visited her weekly to get an update and have a family bonding of they were complete. So their relationship did not break but it grew stronger.

On the night of January 17, 1997, Kanai was now experiencing pain and felt that she had to go to the hospital. Ryoma who just arrived after work fetched Kanai (and Mayumi) to go to the hospital so Kanai would safely give birth to her son. 

After a long 12 hours of waiting, on the morning of January 18, Hideki Takeuchi was born to Kanai Takeuchi, he was a healthy baby. Kanai held on to her baby and wept happily and said "Welcome, Hideki-kun"

To the people in the hospital they are happy to welcome Hideki into the world but in the mind of the baby, wait the baby can think already? Yes, it is because he remembers something. He was Jon Brooks in his past life and he thinks that God gave him a chance at a second life, so he tried to open his eyes but everything was bright and blurry and he could not see everything and what he hears is Japanese and he heard the one who gave birth to her said "****** Hideki-kun"

Jon, now known as Hideki, knew that his name was Hideki, he somehow knew Japanese and needed to refresh on it and he knew that "-kun" was added to their names. 

Hideki was thinking why he was reincarnated into another person but there was only one thing he remembered in his death bed "To be able to play basketball and enjoy it" 

So Hideki closed his eyes and before he slept, he prayed "God if you're here. Thank you"
