Chapter 23

Kurama let out a short laugh, but it was laden with scorn. "Ah, always with words that dance around the truth, like leaves in the wind," he mocked. "Don't think I can't see through your metaphors and mysteries."

The masked man remained impassive, but there was a discernible caution in his stance. "You came here for a purpose," he stated, his voice as controlled as his hidden expression. "Why are you here, Kyuubi?"

"An arrangement," Kurama replied, his voice softening slightly as if revealing a hidden card. "How about that for a change of pace?"

"What kind of arrangement?" the masked man's curiosity was evident, even behind the mask that hid his expressions.

"I know what you're trying to do," said Kurama, his gaze fixed and penetrating. "I can help. But of course, you'll have to give me a hand in return."

"What are you talking about?" The masked man tilted his head slightly, a sign of interest despite his voice remaining steady.

Kurama smiled, a smile that had nothing warm about it. "Don't be cynical. You know very well what I'm talking about. Controlling the tailed beasts, influencing nations, the Tsuki no Me project... You're not the only one with grand plans, and I can be a valuable ally. Or a terrible enemy."

The masked man remained silent for a moment, pondering Kurama's words. The atmosphere was charged, each previous statement escalating the tension between them.

"How?" the question escaped almost as a whisper, tracing the fine line between skepticism and interest. "How do you know of my plans, my ambitions with the Tsuki no Me?"

Kurama let out a disdainful laugh, "You underestimate the power of one of the tailed beasts, my dear. Did you really think your plots would remain hidden from me? I see more than they expect, hear more than they speak."

"First," continued Kurama, with a sharp look directed at the masked man, "you're going to release Yagura from the genjutsu that binds him. That's non-negotiable."

The masked man stepped back, as if physically struck by the boldness of the demand. "And why would I do that? Yagura under my control is a valuable pawn. He ensures stability in Kirigakure and more..."

"I don't care," Kurama interrupted, his voice rising an octave in impatience. "You want my help? Release Yagura. Otherwise, you'll find in me an obstacle, not an ally."

The masked man pondered, his mind working frantically behind the mask. "And if I refuse? If you're so powerful, why do you need me? Why come to propose an arrangement?"

Kurama crossed his arms, a look of disdain painting his face. "You know as well as I that even the most powerful forces can benefit from a strategic alliance. And as for my offer, think of it as... a guarantee of success. You want to subjugate the other tailed beasts? I guarantee that won't happen while I'm on the field."

The masked man narrowed his eyes, curiosity now mixed with renewed caution. "And the Tsuki no Me? How could you contribute to a project of that magnitude?"

Kurama tilted his head, a sly gleam in his eyes. "Ah, there lies the real question, doesn't it? I may not be willing to help you capture the other tailed beasts, but I can ensure that your plan for a global genjutsu is foolproof. The Tsuki no Me requires the power of all the bijuus, and I can make sure you have that power. But first, Yagura."

The masked man remained still for a long moment, the silence between them stretching like a cord about to snap. "I will consider your proposal," he finally said, his voice as cold and expressionless as the surface of his mask. "But make no mistake, Kyuubi, if this is a trick, an elaborate lie to gain an advantage... I promise that the consequences will be... severe."

Kurama let out a mocking snort, his tail swishing irritably behind him. "Words, words, words... always threats and warnings. If you think you can intimidate me with promises of 'consequences', you're more lost than I thought," he spat, disdain evident in every syllable. "If you try something behind my back, not only will you fail miserably, but you will also realize that I am the last creature in this world you wanted as an enemy. The wind may blow strong, but it does not move a mountain."

The masked man tilted his head, acknowledging the challenge in the bijuu's words. His gaze remained fixed on Kurama, trying, perhaps, to glimpse some sign of weakness or duplicity. But Kurama was not an open book; his presence was as imposing and enigmatic as ever.

For a moment, the man seemed to contemplate the dark depths of space behind the spiral on his mask, as if seeking counsel in the hidden shadows. Then, with a fluid motion, he began to slowly turn the ring of the mask, creating a vortex that seemed to swallow the light around him.

Kurama watched, disdain still present in his posture. "I'll give you ten minutes," he announced, his voice laden with authority. "Ten minutes to ponder your precarious situation and my generous offer. Make your choice, masked man, and choose wisely. Because when time runs out, either you will have a powerful ally by your side, or an adversary like no other."

The masked man did not respond, the spiral on his mask slowly swallowing him until he disappeared completely, leaving Kurama alone with the buzz of silence and the weight of the impending decision hanging in the air.

Kurama let himself fall heavily into a nearby chair, the wood creaking under the weight of his imposing being. He stretched out his legs and crossed his arms behind his head, an ironic smile dancing on his lips. "He really didn't take me seriously, huh?" he commented to himself, though he knew his words weren't meant for the solitude of the room alone. "Big mistake."

His eyes, red and intense, fixed on Yagura, who remained still and silent. The Mizukage's gaze was blank, but Kurama knew that the mind behind those eyes was not his own. With a casual flick of his hand, Kurama mocked, "I'm sure you're watching, masked man. Don't hide your curiosity behind your puppet."

Yagura did not react, but Kurama did not expect him to. It was a game of patience and calculated moves, and Kurama was a master at it.

Leaning forward, Kurama spoke in an audible tone, "Isobu, can you hear me?" He laughed a bit louder, fully aware of the irony. "Of course not, you're too busy being a puppet as well." Kurama's laughter filled the space, laden with contempt and amusement. "But don't worry, my dear Isobu, your liberation is near. Just wait a little longer."

Kurama knew that the masked man — the one who hid behind complex plots and shadows — weighed each word, each gesture. He also knew that the gears in his adversary's mind were turning rapidly, pondering the consequences of each possible decision.

"You have your plans, and I have mine," Kurama continued, speaking as if to the void, but fully aware that his words were monitored. "And, in the end, we'll see who truly understands the game that's being played."

With a theatrical sigh, Kurama rose from the chair, his feet hitting the ground with deliberate force. "Time is ticking," he murmured, his voice filled with a silent challenge. "And with it, your chances of making the right choice."
