I DON'T KNOW HOW it happened, but I'm currently sitting at the passenger seat of a Delton luxury car while the supposed head of the family, Cyrus Delton, was driving beside me. When we got out of the mansion earlier, he suddenly went inside the driver seat before I could, so I was forced to sit on the passenger seat instead.
"I can drive. If that's what you're concerned about." I tell him.
Without looking back at me, he says back, "I know."
Of course, you do.
"I know where the company is too. I can safely drive you there." I add, but Cyrus still wouldn't look back at me. It seemed to me that he's pretending like he's talking to me through the phone.
"I know. But we're not going to the company." He answers. I was confused for a second until I realize what the reason might be. He didn't exactly tell me where we're going instead, but I remember what he said while they were eating breakfast.
"I'll talk to the people at the main house. Tobias is expected to do well in his classes, and it is in our rules that his education is not to be interrupted by family matters." I remember Cyrus say to his siblings earlier. So, he's bringing me with him? We're heading to the main house that Catalina is so afraid to even mention?
"Tobias didn't look well," I tell him right after.
I wait for Cyrus to even react a little, but he doesn't show anything that would give me a hint on what might have happened to him. It's like he already knew that fact, so I didn't have to mention it to him in the first place.
"Could it be related to that bell last night? Did something happen afterward?" I keep on asking even though I knew he isn't going to answer me.
Cyrus hasn't said anything, so my new question won't make him start doing so. He stays quiet, and the silence and the awkwardness almost made me want to jump out of the car. This is the same guy I fucked last night, and to pretend as if nothing happened almost felt like he's taunting me even though he hasn't really done anything that would remind me of what actually happened last night. If you ask me, I'm the one who's making myself remember everything.
"Anyways, I got my initial problem solved," I say, not bothering if he's even listening to me or not. "I know where to get the money. I'll pay you tonight."
"Where did you get it?"
Okay, now he decides to say something since money is involved.
"I was able to talk to the people I work for. But I told them that you'd be able to pay it back once I solve this case. Which got me thinking...why wouldn't you just pay it for me instead?" I ask, and Cyrus takes a deep breath and stops at a red light.
"Our family has one bank account. It keeps the family intact, or so no one would run away with all the family money. There's always a higher power. If I suddenly withdrew twenty-five million dollars – the same amount that you bid on – I'd break a very serious rule." Cyrus finally explains to me.
The concept is confusing, but I understand what the point is. Technically, all the members of the family only have one bank account. This could be the reason why everyone is so afraid of breaking the family rules. If they try anything, they'll literally be left with nothing. And it's sad when you realize that the family sticks together because of money, and not because they're family.
"Your family is fucked up." I unconsciously say out loud.
With Cyrus's personality, I honestly thought he'd just ignore my comment. But when I glanced at him, I saw him grinning instead.
"You must have been shocked." He tells me, and that sentence alone is a sign that we were now allowed to talk about everything that happened last night.
"Who wouldn't be? Families don't punish each other like that. Well, I guess I've heard of brothers killing each other for the inheritance, but what's been happening to you and your family is a different level of insane." I honestly tell him, and Cyrus just continues to grin. He didn't show any hurt. Instead, he made the topic look so laughable.
"Then it means you haven't met anyone as rich as us yet. Because people will do everything for money and power, and the Delton's just so happened to have both. They will do everything they can to keep it. And in order to keep it, we have to show the public the image of a perfect family that they would die to be a part of." Cyrus explains to me; his eyes on the road again.
I take a deep breath and look out of the car window, "Haven't you thought of running away, or just leaving your family name and all the riches with it? You know, start anew."
Cyrus doesn't answer me. He's silent for a couple of seconds that I immediately look back at him to check if he was still listening to me. I sigh when I realize that Cyrus isn't grinning anymore. Instead, his blank and unreadable face is there. I shouldn't have asked that question.
"Where would we go then?" He asks, and it's a question that would make you think that it came from an innocent child. But knowing Cyrus, and knowing everything that they've been through, I understood why he asked me that question. His family must have manipulated them into thinking that the Delton family is all that they have. And if they decide to leave, they'll be left with nothing.
It's not that they're afraid to leave. It's more like the thought of leaving never occurred to them in the first place.
"I'll take you with me," I answer without thinking.
I only realized that I said it when Cyrus looked at me with a surprised expression. My eyes widened too, and I immediately had to look away from him because of embarrassment. This could have been a harmless joke, but putting into consideration that the two of us just had sex makes it feel different and not harmless at all.
"You're brave to say such claims to your billionaire boss." He tells me, making the atmosphere feel normal again.
I chuckle and look back at Cyrus. He still isn't looking back at me because his eyes were glued to the road, but the sad expression that he had made the small smile on my face disappear in an instant.
"You know what else I could bravely claim about you?" I ask him out of the blue.
Cyrus doesn't answer, but I knew in his expression that he wanted me to continue.
I took a deep breath and gulped before saying, "You're the one who killed your father, didn't you?"
Cyrus didn't even react one bit as I continued, "You killed Adam Delton." I confidently accused.
After everything that I've heard and seen, the suspects grew more and more. But as I was contemplating last time, I realized one thing. Cyrus is the only person in that mansion who has enough reasons for killing their father. He had experienced the most pain, and that pain could have caused him to kill Adam.
"Where's your evidence?" Cyrus suddenly asks in a calm manner.
I sigh and lean my head on the window.
Of course, I don't have one.
"I will gladly accept your accusations and follow you to the court with my wrists cuffed up. But I have to be sure you have enough evidence. You can't just accuse anyone without concrete evidence, especially a Delton. My family won't let this slide. You'll be dead for sure. And besides, I'm paying you to find my father's killer. Not make assumptions." Cyrus tells me, and my confidence just now slowly leaves my side.
I don't know if he's already telling me if he's the killer or not because Cyrus has a way with his words that can make anyone pause and think for a second, but one thing's for sure, he's right about what he said.
I need evidence, and currently, the only evidence I have is a bloodstain that I'm not even sure who it belongs to.
I've seen everything at the mansion, and I've heard everything from Chance. But I don't have a physical record of all that. I can't just tell chief Philip about all this without proof. I could be easily labeled as a liar and get punished for making such accusations.
"Seriously. I don't know if you really want me to find your father's killer or not. I know that you know something that will help me with my investigation. It makes absolutely no sense as to why you're not telling me those things." I tell Cyrus in complete frustration.
"My actions are limited." He simply answers.
I was about to say something, but then Cyrus continues, "But here's something that might...help...you."
My eyes widen because I didn't know that Cyrus would actually say something at all.
I immediately adjusted myself from my seat and look at him with complete focus so I wouldn't miss anything.
"Do you know why I wanted you to stay in my room?" Cyrus suddenly asks, and I shake my head as an answer.
Cyrus grips on the stirring wheel as he continues, "I know that someone has already explained it to you, but let me run down it again. The Delton's have watchers, and these watchers are more active during the day. Which means they monitor us in the mansion and in the company. But during the night, the watchers lessen, and that's because most of them will be in the underground area of the mansion."
"Okay? But how is that connected to why you placed me in your room?" I ask curiously because I can't seem to connect it all.
"You see the house is covered with hidden cameras and recorders, but there is one room that is clear of it all," Cyrus reveals, finally making me realize.
"The bedroom where the head of the family stays. That is where I placed you." He continues, and I instantly remember the time Tobias sneaked inside that room. He said it was Adam's old room too.
Everything finally connected to each other.
"It's the perfect place to kill Adam Delton!" I practically shout, and Cyrus looks at me with a grin, like he's proud of my discovery.
So that bloodstain could actually really be Adam's after all.
"Use that small information as it fits you. I know you're smart." Cyrus tells me.
I was about to ask him another question, but then I realized we were already entering a large gate.
Looks like we're at the main house.
"I know you find it very hard to follow simple rules, but let me remind you again that you're my bodyguard, so no speaking. This time I want you to seriously follow it, understand?" Cyrus asks as he parks the car at what looks like a mansion.
"Yeah, I get it," I answer as I look out the window to get a better view of what they call the main house.
The mansion doesn't have as many guards as the Delton mansion, and surprisingly enough, it's very homey. I don't know who lives here, but I don't understand why the others were afraid of this place.
"This is where we were trained when we were kids." Cyrus suddenly says like he read what I was just thinking about.
"Oh." The only word that I could say as Cyrus turned the engine off.
No one's waiting for us, so I look at Cyrus with concern and ask him, "Are you okay?"
Cyrus leans forward and looks back at the mansion as he answers me, "I stayed here longer than the others. Sometimes I'd even get nightmares about this place."
I was surprised that Cyrus was able to open up something so personal, so out of instinct, I grab his arm to comfort him. Thankfully Cyrus didn't push me away.
"Why did you ask to go here for Tobias's sake if you were so scared?" I ask him, and Cyrus says with a soft voice, "He got punished for me."
"What?" I ask confusingly, so Cyrus looks back at me and says something different instead, "I'm their big brother. It's my duty to protect them."
"It's my duty." He says again, and the hurt expression on his face made me pity him again.
"Don't look at me like that," Cyrus says in a low voice. Automatically making me look away from him.
"How could I? After everything that I just saw." I say, and Cyrus suddenly holds my cheek and gently made me face him. He leans close to me and asks, "Were you scared?"
I look straight into his eyes and answer, "No. But I was sad."
Cyrus forced a smile, but then to my surprise, he did something so gentle that it made my heart beat faster.
With his hand still on my cheek, he leans closer and presses his forehead on mine before whispering, "Thank you...for what you did for me and my family."
I feel something burn inside me that I thought I'd cry again. Cyrus closes his eyes for a second while his forehead is still on mine.
"You were forced to remember something unpleasant because you wanted to save me. So thank you." He says.
I gulp as Cyrus opens his eyes back to look at me. He's about to pull away, but then I grab his necktie and press my lips on him without even thinking. My body just moved on its own. Cyrus is surprised for a second so he isn't able to respond to me, but after a while, he starts kissing me back. It was slow at first, but then it ended up being a hungry kiss. Like we were both starving for each other.
Cyrus grabs a fistful of my hair and pulls me closer to him before he could push his tongue inside my mouth. I felt his warm tongue touch mine as we both tasted each other. After a few more seconds, we both pull away. Both of us are panting heavily. Cyrus is still holding my hair while I'm still holding his necktie. We were done kissing, but neither of us wanted to let go.
He stares at me, and then he chuckles before leaning closer again to lick my lips.
"So my kiss last night did bother you huh?" He asks teasingly, finally making me pull away from him.
"That's not fair," I say, and Cyrus laughs for the first time that I stared at him with awe.
I haven't really seen him laugh like that before.
It's a beautiful sight to see.
"Don't worry. That's not going to be the last." He suddenly says, making my ears turn red.
Cyrus takes out a handkerchief and gently cleans my mouth like a gentleman before fixing his messed up tie and hair. I gulp and look away from Cyrus from embarrassment. Then I took a deep breath and composed myself before fixing my hair as well.
"Well fun's over. Let's go." Cyrus says before heading out first. I'm supposed to follow, but Cyrus immediately opens the door for me.
"I thought I was your bodyguard?" I ask as Cyrus closes the car door for me.
"That doesn't change the fact that I'm still a gentleman." He says with a wink before walking away.
I take a deep breath and follow behind him like we didn't just make out in his car. I can't believe I just kissed him again, but this time it was a legit kiss. And that's not even the worst part. Because the worst part is that I enjoyed every second of it. I enjoyed kissing my fucking billionaire boss.
"Cyrus." Someone suddenly greets when we entered the mansion. It actually surprised me because he didn't address him as master Cyrus.
"Good morning." Cyrus politely greeted the man.
The man doesn't even acknowledge his greeting as he continues, "The mistress is waiting for you. Please follow me."
The man glances at me first before he starts walking away. Cyrus followed him, so I naturally followed behind them. The mansion is surprisingly empty. I saw a few maids, but they were at least only two or three of them. And there weren't any butlers either.
When we arrive in front of the door, the man stops in front of it and gestures for Cyrus to come inside. Cyrus nods his head and opens the door and takes a step inside. I was about to follow him, but the man immediately stops me.
"It's alright, he can come in." A voice suddenly instructs.
I look at the person who was actually inside the room. It's an old woman who had long white hair. I know she's old, but you could still see the beauty and elegance of her youth.
I don't know who she actually is, but my eyes widen from surprise when Cyrus finally greets her.
"Good morning...mother."
